There exist a concerted attempt to undermine Islam and Muslims, in Malaysia, today. This structured effort is being generated from outside Malaysia and if unchecked, will lead to further instability with regards to the acceptance and sensitivities of Malaysian Muslim majority towards conversion outside Islam.
The predominant Malay Muslim Malaysians have very conservative attitude and approach towards infidelity, apostasy and attempts to convert outside Islam. They have reacted adversely to the few cases which surfaced and attracted too much attention.
In a recent landmark case where Lina Joy wished to omit the word “Islam” from her MyKad, no longer depicting her faith in Islam, the Chief Justice of Malaysia ruled that “one cannot embrace or leave religion according to one’s whims and fancies”. The CJ further clarified that one should have brought one’s case to the Syariah Court for an annulment out of Islam. Th case ended in an episode which was more than a woman tried to change a word in her identity card.
It was seen as people taking advantage of the case for their own narrow quest. Some say it was an attempt to test the system which protected the interests of the predominant Malay Muslim majority. The case attracted a lot of NGOs from abroad, hiding under the veil of universal values such as human rights.
However, the structured effort still continue. Some of them tried to re-define and narrowly interpret Islam and/or the covenants and conventions that Islam stood for, for ill intent and skewed reasons. The Ministry of Internal Security recently banned 37 titles of books contained elements that will demean Islam, from the Malaysian perspective.

As an example, recently, came to the attention of some that there exist some teachings which redefined how prayer is offered. It was narrowly interpreted by some using a few verses in the Al Quran that prayer in Islam is not about the five required to be preformed at specific times. These ‘reformists’ are making the attempt to re[write how Muhammad S.A.W. practiced prayers which remain intact by over one billion worshipers throughout these 14 centuries. There are also issues related to cult such as the Qadyanni and deviant cult groupings, such as the banned Ayah Pin and Al Arqam movement.
Some people interpreted efforts like these are systematic ways of refining teachings, taking advantage to test the system for loopholes and others perceived these sort of efforts as trying to undermine Islam as the religion of the Federation of Malaysia, challenge and mock the authorities, system, Judiciary and the position of the HRH Malay Rulers as the defenders of the faith and Special Malay Rights. Eventually, it will developed (or ’snowballed’) into insult at the majority through the legal process and hiding behind the veil of the Constitution being the Supreme Law of the nation.
There is no pluralism in Islam. Islam is about one God Al Mighty, the Most Merciful and Muhammad S.A.W. is the messenger and Al Quran, Hadiths and Sunnah are the referrals. As long as the non Muslims respect these boundaries, then the predominantly Malaysian Muslim majority will remain within their own turf. Any minority, who is trying or had tried to be cheeky and ignorantly or consciously dwell into parameters they could willfully avoid, then they would have the tendency to be treated as arrogants and these Kurang-Ajarness will be reciprocated, accordingly.

Nuraina A. Samad also posted on religion and Islam today. Her subject is Karen Armstrong, a former nun who has written about Islam. Ms Armstrong will be in KL to deliver a lecture next Saturday and it seems she will be featured in some of the local blogs.
I went out after reading her posting to find one of Ms Armstrong’s books. I ended up with A Russian Diary, instead. It’s the book Anna Politkovskaya was writing when she was gunned down at the stairwell of her flat in Moscow last year. I have not read many pages but I would recommend it to my fellow journos and bloggers.
Now, don’t worry. I wont go out and try to find any of the books you’ve listed as banned as they won’t be on the bookshelves, anyway. I would like to see, however, more than just the titles of the banned books. Those people who ban any book must be able to explain why exactly these books are being banned. It is an opportunity to get intellectual, at the very least. by going into details as to why a(ny) book is being banned, several things may be established, from the credibility of those banning the book to the lack of it on the part of the authors or publishers of the book.
The most important thing from these explanations, of course, is that we get to educate ourselves about Islam.

The problem with our society today, anywhere, too many people will conveniently abuse openess and ride on loopholes, use narrow and shallow minded interpretations and extreme or isolated samplings as norm, to challenge and insult others, especially the majority.
Thus the volatility lies with how the issue will be played and to what extend. Some underdeveloped simpletons might easily be instigated and/or incited for the wrong reasons and under totally unfortunately wrong circumstances. Soon we have untoward incidences bleeding in our hands, grossly and possibly gravely out of control.
These are the sort of variables that we better avoid rather than engage. Life’s already too complicated as is, without more variable added.
The biggest threat to Islam in Malaysia today is Islam Liberal and Islam Plural. Islam itu mudah tetapi jangan pulak terlalu mudah.
Memang orang mempunyai berbeza2 tahap intelek dan kebolehan berfikir sendiri. Yang bahayanya adalah orang2 yang berfikiran sekular dan tak berkelayakkan mahu mengintrepetasi sendiri secara literal dan hebah2kan ke orang lain (dan bukan untuk amalan sendiri).
Kehadhiran Islam Liberal dan islam plural ini kemungkinan besar adalah di sokong oleh anasir subversif dari barat. Di Malaysia, institusi yang jelas terlibat adalah kumpulan Sister in ISlam, Konrad Adreneur Foundation, Becket FUnd (membantu Lina Joy), dan lain2.
Islam yang bahaya sekali adalah Islam Hadhari kerana ia state sponsored attempt to rebrand Islam.

If your faith is strong, no amount of ‘persuasions’ will shake that faith. No books should be banned. People are free to verbalise their takes on anything. An intellectually mature person can sieve the grain from the chaff. Our moral guardians should credit us with more intelligence. if banning is effected HAVE THE MORAL FIBER TO TELL US WHY?

Islam is not the fastest growing religion in the world. Islam is the dominant religion of the third world where the birth rate is high. In these same Countries, Muslims are killed if they convert to Christianity.
That’s TOTALLY UNTRUE! Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world, especially in developed countries like France, UK and USA. More people in these countries convert into Islam and especially in the UK, the Anglican Church is seeing a decline of worshippers in the congregation.
In France, the tolerance for Islam had improved that a lot of their regular markets like Carrefour and Auschan are offering fresh halal meats and poultries, even in cities like Cherbourg, where the Muslim population is very small, but expanding.
Halal eateries in the UK also include KFC chain.
