PAK LAH’S CRONIES ARE BLEEDING MONEY
BUT THEY ARE ALSO STUCK
& NOT ABLE TO LIQUIDATE
by Matthias Chang
I will let you on a secret.
Jet fuel price is skyrocketing!
But, what has this got to do with Pak Lah’s cronies?
Well, many of them have directly and indirectly latched on to the wings of AIR ASIA – the cheap-fare airlines that was the darling of the spin doctors and investors. Having the Minister of Transport (the previous two especially) as your sympathetic Godfather was a bonus. All “good things” don’t last forever.
And the good times are coming to an end. There won’t be any more champagne parties for Air Asia. Already, in the USA cheap-fare airlines are heading for the scrap heap. To cover up their financial stress, Air Asia is already levying surcharges on other items as a short term measure to maintain airfares at current levels. But, this wayang kulit has to end and price increases will be inevitable! There won’t be any more cheap flights. Expect to see requests for government bailouts.
When the financial tsunami finally hits Malaysia, companies that will be most vulnerable will be companies like Air Asia and those companies in the car business which are highly leveraged. Pak Lah’s cronies who are in the investment banking business up to their eyeballs will also suffer massive losses when their values hit south in the stock market.
Pak Lah’s cronies are all involved in these business and they ARE BLEEDING MONEY! And there is no blood transfusion available. The banks that were financing these businesses are stuck. If they provide more funds, it is throwing good money after bad. If they don’t provide additional liquidity to meet short falls and increasing costs, bankruptcy stares right into their faces!
If you have invested in these counters, get out when you can. But, if you have plenty of cash, you can buy exotic cars for dimes in the dollar. In so far as the shares of these companies, you can frame and hang them up as a reminder of your greed and stupidity.
Pak Lah’s cronies have been bleeding money and will be bleeding more money in the months ahead. Therein, lies the pain and agony because these cronies are in a dilemma.
It is only a matter of time before UMNO do Pak Lah in for screwing big time in the 12th General Elections. But the cronies are hoping and persuading Pak Lah to stay on so that their “investments” will not end up in smoke. But each time, UMNO members at Branch and Division levels calls for his retirement, they suffer a minor heart attack.
The billion question: “Do we liquidate and run with what we have in hand, or do we hold and wait for our fortune to turn for the better?”
Some have already liquidated and have made all the preparations for their get away – houses overseas, children studying abroad and minimum cash balances in local banks, with the bulk in foreign banks!
Oouch!!! Did I say foreign banks? Yep, and that is why they are also in a fix, what with these big global banks suffering massive losses and for all intent and purposes, insolvent. When these banks holding their ill-gotten gains fold up, I can assure you that they may very well jump from the 20th floor rather than face reality and shame. This is a given.
Don’t bother prosecuting them for corruption. It will be a waste of public funds. It is better that we watch them do their own thing.
These are desperation times and desperate people will do desperate things.
So when you read the news, please be careful, as there is more to it than meets the eye. I don’t mean just the main stream media but also some of the blogs as well. They are playing a subtle double game, part of Pak Lah’s web of deceit and deception.
In due time, I will expose them and named them specifically and lets see whether they dare sue me for defamation.
For now, I urge all of you to be vigilant.

Yo..Mathias, good piece this. Start a blog and give us more of this. The country is going to the dogs and people are still in a state of denial. Wake them up..will yuh..Please continue to write.
If you think Airasia is a strong fundamental company then hold on.If you do not think so then liquidate and get out. However it you see long term fundamental value in Airasia then wait and let the price drop to a very low level before you engineer a hostile takeover during depressed price environment.
If you are really risk averse then better hold onto cash parked in a prudent well managed conservative bank and invest in Swiss Franc, Yen and Yuan.
If you think the secular boom in commodity will last until 2015 or 2020 and you have a higher risk appetite then buy the commodity index.
MAS actually has the cards in its hand to kill off AirAsia through the lowcost airline market: Firefly
But aside from a few planes, MAS has decided not to really develop this airline, despite having Subang Airport (which is closer to KL) as its base. So AirAsia still keeps going on…
And MAS being a govt-linked corporation also has another card to stay in the game: Government Bailouts. AirAsia doesn’t.
Provided MAS is bailed out & spoonfed with taxpayers money from its losses every few years or so, it can continue running with bad management. Most airlines would be forced to declare bankruptcy…
authentication on news is paramount.if the scenarios are true, these cashing out and panic selling activities will create chaos in the market.
GE12 has actually brought in new hope for businesses which was deprived of even playing fields before.
i sincerely hope that the ideal accountability practices will be given a serious consideration now so that no one especially close to the executives will escape from responsibilities due to their misdeeds.
big dog,
Your previous master the mahakulti is even more daring in bailing out crony companies. You think only AAb knows the trick. LOL.
Maha Crony’s time is over. Let the next big dog go over picking on the carcass of Malaysia.
Mr. Chang, do us a favor. Please tell Maha##### to jump from the twin-tower first.

what goes around comes around.hmmm
Matthias Chang … Mahathir’s spin doctor.
The rot and cancer in UMNO started during Mahathir’s time. If Mahathir still around during PRU 11 in 2004, current scenario would have happened then. Rakyat were already fed-up with UMNO then.
However since Mahathir was no longer around and they wanted to give “clean” Pak Lah a chance, they overwhelmingly voted in BN in 2004. Pak Lah administration is full of slogans and rhetorics. He failed to deliver what he promised.
Nevertheless … given a choice I still prefer Pak Lah. I can’t recall major financial scandal during Pak Lah’s time that caused govt to lose money.
But Mahathir … Maminco, BMF, Bank Bumiputera (3 times),Perwaja,BNM forex losses,Konsortium Perkapalan …not to mention ammendment of laws to favour Mahathir’s administration. Even though Mahathir always said ‘Melayu mudah lupa” … I tak lupa !!!
You really “susah lingam”….the pot calling the kettle black. Everyone knows which dog you are speaking up for. Stop telling everyone what we already know. It’s not really a secret anyway.
So, are you saying they should liquidate like Daim and then run away? Mahathir’s cronies didn’t do the same? People in glass houses should not throw stones.
Matthias chang….u lack the credebility to make a fair and balance view….i somehow think you are writing 4 someone else…maybe a Tun???
what abot mahatir’s cronies, MR? the tajuddins, the ramli’s, the renong gang? last, i heard they are still enjoying their spoils, that of course from the taxpayer’s pockets.
how about daim? how many banks he owned now? last heard his son also controls a listed company in S’pore. just wondering where was the original source of such massive wealth?
gee, after mahatir, comes badawi’s looters. they are all the same, MR. pans calling the pot black?
Allo Mathias! I will do the same thing if I’m the PM. Not many angel in town nowadays. Look out for the elephant in front of your eyes, not just the ants across the sea.
I bet you can write a similar but longer story on your ‘godfather’.
Chow!

Abdullah jadi PM atas kehendak rakyat menerusi Pilihan Raya Umum ke-12 lalu
TDM maseh relevan…pak Lah pun relevan…semua maseh bernafas tapi tak mahu bersyukur…itulah dunia kalau nak tahu…
Kalau dah UMNO tu UMNO juga. Dulu TDM punya hal, sekarang Pak Lah punya hal le pulak, lepas tu PM seterusnya punya hal pulak.

Great piece Matthias. Its good to know that informative blogging is alive & well in Malaysia. It is the very existence of the freedom of the Web that produced an opportunity for a fairer & more equitable house of parliament from the last general elections in March 2008.
Constructively though, I would advise that in future, it would be a good idea to improve your standard of written English. The educated middle class in Malaysian society, no matter what race they belong to, converse first in English, then in their primodial sentiments. There is nothing more off-putting than a beautiful piece of political comment being slowly but surely destroyed by bad grammar. The educated middle class are who you need for support, they are the intelligencia of society. Don’t waste their support with ill written pieces.
