Wayang Tinggi is really afoot!

Former Deputy Prime Minister and abuse of power convict Anwar Ibrahim announcement he will be contesting in Permatang Pauh Parliamentary seat as his wife PKR President Wan Azizah Wan Ismail declared quitting as Pematang Pauh MP.

Wan Azizah quits, Anwar to contest (Update 3)

By ROYCE CHEAH

PETALING JAYA: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has resigned as Permatang Pauh Member of Parliament to make way for her husband Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to contest in a by-election.

At a packed press conference at the party headquarters on Thursday, Dr Wan Azizah said the decision was made after deliberations with her family, the PKR leadership and its partners in the Pakatan Rakyat loose coalition of Opposition parties.

“I have officially submitted my resignation as MP to the Parliament Speaker, Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia, to make way for my husband, Anwar Ibrahim, to contest as a candidate for Pakatan Rakyat in a by-election as soon as possible,” she said.

Dr Wan Azizah, who showed no emotion during the press conference, said it was the right decision for Malaysia and that she would continue serving as PKR president and chairman of the Peace Foundation.

Together with her were PKR vice-presidents Azmin Ali and R. Sivarasa, her daughter and Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar, and Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai.

Dr Wan Azizah also thanked her supporters in Permatang Pauh who had stood by her in the most difficult of times.

“Anwar Ibrahim has the experience and intelligence to reinvigorate our economy, and the charisma and integrity to unite Malaysians.

“And I’m not saying this just because he is my husband,” she added.

As to who would be taking over as the Opposition leader in Parliament, Dr Wan Azizah said that would be discussed with other Pakatan Rakyat leaders.

Anwar, under a police investigation for allegedly sodomising a former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, 23, had previously said he would contest in the Kulim-Bandar Baharu parliamentary constituency, where an election petition is pending.

The case is scheduled for hearing on Aug 19.

On Thursday, Anwar said he had decided to contest in Pematang Pauh instead because the Kulim petition might take too long to settle.

He had previously said that he would have the numbers to form the government by Sept 16, and said the sodomy allegation was a part of a conspiracy to stop him from doing so.

He has denied the sodomy allegations and has filed a defamation suit against Mohd Saiful.

The Election Commission is required under the law to call for a by-election within 60 days.

Its chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman said the Commission would start preparing for the by-election upon receiving notice from the Speaker.

Also on Thursday, Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar announced that the police had wrapped up their investigations into the sodomy case, and have sent their report to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action.

*****************************************

Is this another precursor for another sordid drama in the making?

The timing of this is highly questionable. Anwar was unable to contest in the 8 March XIIth General Elections because the interregnum period stated by law for after serving the sentence for the conviction of abuse of power had not matured. Then came 14 April 2008, he was a ‘free’ man.

So why now and not then?

He was alleged to have sodomised Saiful Bukhary in a Police report made on July which stunned the nation again, almost ten years to be exact. Then came the drama of so-called being life threatening (which he illustrated to be false as her appeared before a mob-like crowd of 10,000 people days later), invited for asylum at the Turkish Embassy and later, refusing to do the muhaballah but instead demanded qazaf ruling from the Syariah Court.

And all the dramas in between, which include a ‘conspiracy theory’ involving the IGP Tan Sri Musa Hassan and AG Tan Sri Gani Patail to “fabricate evidence”.

After the refusal of co-operation with the Police, to obtain his DNA sample, Anwar knew his days are numbered. So, by actively  going through the electoral process to become an MP, he will use the excuse of “politically motivated” when the Police arrest him soon, when most probably more damning evidence and conclusion is formed in the sodomy case.

Again, Anwar will cry foul again. And the international community will come hard against PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Dato’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s administration for “trying to incarcerate a potential Malaysian leader as his popularity has risen”. The last time we were put to this test, we had a really strong leader.

What else is new with the Drama King?

Dasar Ekonomi Baru: Identiti, Jatidiri dan Keyakinan Melayu

Ucapan YB Dato’ Mukhriz Mahathir

Presiden ANSARA

Mesyuarat Agung Tahunan 2008 (MAT2008 )

Persatuan Lepasan Pelajar MRSM Malaysia (ANSARA)

27hb Julai 2008, Jam 3.00 ptg

Bilik Wilayah, Aras 5, PWTC

Pak Belalang nujum bestari

Menyelamatkan negara dari dicuri

Hasil DEB adalah kita ini

Kini menyumbang semula kepada komuniti

Tak tumbuh maka tak melata

Kata pepatah orang tua-tua

Biarpun bangsa Melayu nampak bersahaja

Tak semestinya kita tidak mampu berjaya!

Wabillahitaufik wal hidayah, Wassalamua’laikum wbt

Shahziman and Norza lost at Branch level

UMNO Branch meetings already started since mid July. Several Branches already held the meetings. However there are more to come as there are 22,000 Branches to hold their meetings before the UMNO Divisions started their meetings, in the run up to the leadership party elections during the Annual General Meeting 16-20 December 2008.

So far, there are already surprises. Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah already got 30 nominations from Kota Belud UMNO Division Branches alone. Muar Division Branches also gave him some nominations as well.

The more interesting development is UMNO Supreme Council (MT UMNO) members failing to get a position in their own Branches. Multimedia and Communications Minister Dato’ Shahziman Abu Mansor and former Finance Minister II Political Secretary Dato’ Mohd. Norza Zakaria failed to be voted as Branch Head in their own turf, Tampin and Wangsa Maju respectively. Both also so far to get nominations for the post of Head at their respective Divisions. Norza is the UMNO Youth Head for Wilayah Persekutuan and 2004 party elections, his withdrawal made way for Khairy Jamaluddin to ascend as UMNO Youth Vice Head uncontested.

The writings on the wall, illustrating grassroots’ deep dissatisfaction against PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Dato’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi leadership is very apparent, despite the announcement of ‘Power Transition Plan’ on 10 July 2008, which is supposed to materialise by June 2010. The ‘Meet The Leadership’ sessions, which first started in April organised by the party and then taken over by an agency under the Information Ministry, JASA ,maybe not have the desirable effect intended for. On top of these strong sentiments blasted by some grassroot members, the Management Committee of MT UMNO which had since April actively meeting Division level leaders at almost all UMNO State Liaisons organised meetings also got adverse feelings on party’s performance in the 8 March General and Elections and where the party is going.

This failure of very pro-PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Abdullah and closely linked to Khairy Jamaluddin leaders within UMNO at their own turf is an indication that the party must reform its leadership and absorb the feelings and sentiments of the grassroot more. However, some pro-PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Abdullah leaders at UMNO State Liaison level like Selangor and Melaka is putting up a totally inaccurate sentiment of the UMNO grassroots in wanting PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Abdullah to stay on beyond this December party polls.

*Updated information

It seems that the Tampin Division has not finished its entire process of nomination. Shahziman is still running for the Division Head

Where The Buck Stops!

A great leader never claims glory all to himself and ducks behind subordinates when ghastly mistakes are committed.

It came as no surprise to me when Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad in his recent posting in his Blog – www.chedet.com – assumed total responsibility for the ghastly mistake of appointing Abdullah Badawi as the Deputy Prime Minister, following the disgraceful exit by Anwar Ibrahim upon his conviction. Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad had on a previous occasion, in his interview by BBC’s HARDTalk, admitted that he had made a mistake in choosing Badawi as his successor.

But on this occasion Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad was more explicit.

Notwithstanding the admission, the events leading to the appointment of Badawi as Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad’s successor is not as simple as Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad unilaterally picking Badawi as the next prime minister.

The Greatest Political Mistake

I have decided to make this exposé for two reasons, namely: (i) I want to dispel the myth that Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad was solely responsible for the ghastly mistake of appointing Badawi as the Deputy Prime Minister and therefore his successor and (ii) I believe that the late Tan Sri Megat Junid had entrusted the responsibility to me to reveal the truth regarding the circumstances of the appointment of Badawi as Deputy Prime Minister.

Tan Sri Megat Junid confided in me that the greatest political mistake in his entire career was his pivotal recommendation that Badawi be appointed as Tun’s successor.

I was stunned by his revelation as the purpose of my meeting Tan Sri had nothing to do with that issue but to get Tan Sri’s perspective and further background information on the Anwar Ibrahim episode in the history of UMNO’s internal struggles in my research work for Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad.

In the course of our conversation, he interjected and asked, “Matthias, as a former political secretary to another, and having served the same boss, would you like to know what was my greatest political mistake?”

I was dumbfounded by the question! In the history of Prime Minister’s political secretaries, he was a giant and a superb political craftsman. I was embarrassed by the question as I was not his confidante and tried to evade the question.

But Tan Sri repeated the question and with tears welling in his eyes, said, “My greatest mistake in my political career is to recommend Badawi as successor to Mahathir. Pak Lah was not his first choice. I was told by those who wanted Badawi as successor that if anyone could convince Mahathir, it would be me. At that time, I believe Pak Lah was the correct choice. So I recommended Pak Lah to Mahathir.”

Tan Sri then exhorted me to be “loyal to Mahathir and defend his legacy” as there were ongoing efforts to destroy that legacy. His voice breaking, Tan Sri said that he cannot do very much in the circumstances, as he is getting old and had “retired from politics”.

Seeing the pain and the anguish, I sought Tan Sri’s indulgence to be excused from continuing with the meeting and hastily departed.

The second occasion was equally painful, if not more so. Tan Sri was suffering from cancer and was at the Perdana Leadership Foundation for one of its events.

While waiting for Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad to officiate the event, Tan Sri took me away from the crowd and unashamedly said:

“I just don’t know what to say to Tun. I am having treatment for my cancer and God willing I will recover. But right now I can’t do much. I never expect such attacks on Tun. I regret asking him to appoint Pak Lah….”

Again, tears were welling in his eyes and rolling down his cheeks. His lips quivering, and voice breaking Tan Sri said, “Take care of Tun. We are the front lines. You take care and be vigilant.”

I clasped Tan Sri’s hands and could not help the tears welling in my eyes as well and in that one special moment, sealed a promise – to fight together to the very end, come hell or high water!

This is the Tan Sri Megat Junid that I want everyone in UMNO to remember. Tan Sri could not right the wrong that he had committed but he has entrusted us that duty and responsibility. Although Tan Sri is no longer with us, it is his wish that you go down to the trenches to fight and restore the true glory of UMNO.

UMNO is being destroyed from within and only members of UMNO can restore UMNO and this can only come about if the present leadership of UMNO is changed right now, not in 2010.

God willing members of UMNO will right this wrong!

Konspirasi Neo Conservative menjahamkan dunia melibatkan Anwar?

Pemimpin kewangan awam peringkat antarabangsa kini mula tampil mengesa agar segala tindakan keatas Mantan Timbalan Perdana Menteri dan banduan salah guna kuasa Anwar Ibrahim digugurkan.

Dipetik dari AFP:

Malaysia to drop Anwar sodomy charge

PARIS (AFP) — Malaysia should drop its sodomy charges against opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, said a joint statement by three former leading figures on the international stage.

“We have heard with deep concern the charges filed against the honorable Datuk Seri Dr. Anwar Ibrahim,” said the statement by former Canadian prime minister Paul Martin, ex-World Bank chief James Wolfensohn, and Michel Camdessus, the former head of the International Monetary Fund.

They said the charges were brought “in spite of the fact that similar unsubstantiated charges filed 10 years ago against him were overturned by the Supreme Court.”

They therefore hoped that “the government of Malaysia will … demonstrate, by dropping the charges… an exemplary sense of respect for the rights of the individual which are so important to the international standing of Malaysia.”

The three reiterated their “full confidence in his (Anwar’s) moral integrity.”

Anwar spent a night in custody last week after being arrested over accusations that he sodomised a 23-year-old male aide. He was released on bail.

The events threaten to derail Anwar’s spectacular political comeback, after March elections that handed the opposition a third of parliamentary seats.

Anwar was sacked as deputy premier in 1998 and jailed on sodomy and corruption charges widely seen as politically motivated. The sex conviction was overturned by the nation’s highest court in 2000

***************************************************

New World Order melalui ekonomi bermula?

SHAH ALAM: Umno information chief Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib will contest the vice-president’s post in the coming party polls in December.

“On an official note and with much gladness, I offer my self as a challenger for the vice-president’s post in the upcoming Umno General Assembly from Dec 16-20,” he said at a press conference held at the Umno Selangor building here on Tuesday.

The Rural and Regional Development Minister added that his decision was made with a strong desire to strengthen Umno to face an extraordinarily testing time, amid new political challenges.

“For me it will be an avenue to give undivided support to Umno president Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and his deputy Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak,” he said.

Muhammad Taib, Selangor Mentri Besar from 1986 to 1997, said he wanted to ensure that Malays got priority in development programmes.

**************************

Tepuk dada, tanya selera!

UMNO Youth International Bureau’s Statement on US’s latest announcement

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

JULY 21, 2008

The Mockery of U.S Interference

The UMNO Youth International and NGO Relations Bureau strongly condemns the constant interference by the United States into the internal affairs of Malaysia, especially with regards to the detention of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim over sodomy allegations by his former aide.

Sean McCormack, spokesman for the U.S State Department who noted that the arrest of Anwar raised serious concerns about our rule of law should be reminded that his country paid absolutely no respect to this doctrine when invading Iraq, a sovereign nation of 28 million people.

Iraq is now a failed state, where the rule of law has ceased to exist. Conservative estimates indicate more than a million innocent Iraqi lives have been lost due to this illegal invasion, which was carried out on false pretexts and deceit.

Perhaps, he should also explain the atrocities at the Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp, a detention centre where prisoners are arrested with no charge yet are tortured inhumanely for as long as the U.S administration sees fit.

Anwar was arrested according to the provision of Malaysian laws, interrogated in accordance to proper rules and regulations and was released as soon as the police completed their questioning. He was treated just as any criminal suspect would have been, and none of his rights as a detainee were violated.

The same cannot be said for the approximately 270 detainees who remain incarcerated in GuantanamoBay. Perhaps, it is time this detention centre is closed down in a manner that builds confidence in the impartial rule of law in the United States, for it is surely a wound that continues to scar the face of the American judiciary.

It is best that those like McCormack and Senator Joseph Biden, who claimed that Anwar’s arrest was politically motivated, attempt to first fix the gaping holes in the American judicial system before instructing Malaysia on the rule of law. The United States has neither the moral high ground nor the expertise to lecture us on how we conduct our internal matters.

The UMNO Youth International and NGO Relations Bureau considers the statement made by the State Department, or similar statements by any foreign party, as undermining the sovereignty of Malaysia and the integrity of the Royal Malaysian Police.

The ‘wayang’ is afoot!

Former Deputy Prime Minister and abuse of power convict Anwar Ibrahim first claimed that he was stripped naked when brought to HKL on 15 July 2007. He also claimed that his privacy was ‘molested’.

Malaysian Insider has the story:

Anwar: I was stripped naked and measured

********************************

UPDATE 2

By Wan Hamidi Hamid

KUALA LUMPUR, July 17 — Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was stripped naked, had his private parts examined and some other body parts measured during a medical check-up at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital last night.

He also alleged that he was detained in a police lock-up “fit for a dangerous criminal” and used a towel brought by his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Ismail as his mattress.

Despite this humiliation and hardship, Anwar was in a defiant mood today, adamant that the government had no case against him.

“I’m so confident that I will overcome this case if it is conducted professionally. I’m pleading to the Prime Minister to ensure this investigation is conducted professionally and that we can be done with it,” said Anwar, drawing applause and cheers from hundreds of his supporters who were standing behind an already large entourage of journalists at the press conference.

He insisted that the attempt by the Barisan Nasional to derail the Pakatan Rakyat’s march to power will fail and pledged to continue speaking at political rallies around the country.

“We should go on. The issue is not Anwar. The issue is the state of governance and the economic management of the country… Despite the government’s plan to derail me, Pakatan remains strong,” he added.

The large crowd at Anwar’s house where he held the press conference.

During the press conference, he touched on his detention, saying that he was questioned for almost five hours yesterday and 30 minutes this morning before he was released. He blasted the police for keeping him overnight.

“Still it was a blatant lie by the police when they refused to release me last night despite their assurance. Their argument was that I did not give my blood sample. Why is giving my blood sample a condition for police bail? It’s already in their possession. They’ve seen my private parts. What more do they want?”

He was especially upset with CID director Datuk Mohd Bakri Zinin, saying that his behaviour reminded him of the former Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Rahim Noor, who beat him up while in custody a decade ago.

Then yesterday, the HKL Director Dato’ Dr. Zaininah Mohd. Zain said it was nothing like that. Infact, she claimed that the examinations procedure was explained first to Anwar by some consultants and written permission was obtained for the examinations.

Anwar not made to strip naked, says HKL director

KUALA LUMPUR: Hospital Kuala Lumpur director Datuk Dr Zaininah Mohd Zain said that PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was not made to strip naked.

In a statement here Saturday, she said that prior to the examination, two specialists explained in detail the examination procedures to Anwar in the presence of his lawyer.

“Only after having obtained his written consent did they proceed with the examination.

“He was then examined by the two specialists who adhered to proper clinical procedures during the whole course of the examination. At no time throughout the examination was his decency violated,” she said.

Police took Anwar, 61, to HKL on Wednesday night after he was detained earlier in the day for medical tests following a sodomy allegation.

After he was released the next day, Anwar said he was stripped naked and had his private parts examined and measured at the hospital. He also refused to give his blood sample for DNA test and have photographs taken. – Bernama

So, the ‘wayang’ has begun!

And now he is taking the ‘wayang’ on a typical old time ‘bangsawan’ roadshow.

Anwar hits the road again

Andrew Ong | Jul 19, 08 4:33pm

Barely 48 hours after being released from police custody, Anwar Ibrahim is back on the road again to continue his whirlwind tour throughout the country.

His first stop last night was around 9.30pm at Cheng, Malacca where he enthralled a Chinese-majority crowd of about 3,000 for nearly 40 minutes with his trademark flair and wit.

There was little new material to his repertoire but Anwar focused on casting doubts on investigation of the sodomy allegations and stoking public anger at the government’s decision to raise fuel prices.

“My appointment was at 2pm, but at 1pm, they ambushed me and arrested me as though I was Osama bin Laden,” said Anwar, prompting laughter throughout.

In his speech, Anwar repeatedly stressed on his ‘ordeal’ during the arrest such as sleeping on the concrete floor and how he was stripped and almost photographed naked during a medical examination.

“When I refused to be photographed, they said I was not cooperative. Well, when we take over and arrest Najib, let’s see if he is willing to be photographed,” he said.

‘Blood hungry’

Anwar also repeatedly cast aspersions on police investigations into the sodomy allegations and that the manipulation of the police report against him was highly plausible.

The former deputy premier said that during the police interrogation, he had given a minute-by-minute account of his whereabouts and relevant witnesses to the police.

He told the crowd that from his alibi, there would be no case against him but worried that should he give a blood sample for DNA testing, it would be tampered with.

“And that’s why they want my blood. The minister wants blood. The police wants blood… I’m not afraid to give blood. I’m only afraid that they play foul,” he added.

Anwar summed up that the sodomy allegations were undertaken to stall his return to parliament and Pakatan Rakyat’s road to Putrajaya.

“They know that should they not come up with these allegations, I would have contested in a by-election by now,” he said.

Defection claim

He said that he had chosen a suitable constituency for the by-election and it would be timed together with the defection of four Barisan Nasional MPs – two from Peninsula Malaysia and two from Sabah and Sarawak.

“I can’t name them yet. Once they announce their defection, I would announce my candidacy for a by-election,” he said.

Anwar is speculated to contest in Kulim Bandar Baharu seat currently held by PKR’s Zulkifli Noordin, should the latter be disqualified as an MP in a election petition filed by the losing candidate Abdul Aziz Shiek Fadzir.

Anwar’s second and last stop for the night was about 30km away in Kampung Kesang Tua, Jasin where he addressed a crowd of about 4,000 people on a small soggy field.

This time, Anwar used adopted a more polished Bahasa Melayu to address the Malay majority crowd, of which many came prepared with picnic mats.

As with his ceramah in Cheng, Anwar spoke at length to defend himself from sodomy allegations and soaring fuel prices.

He also repeated his claim that large sums of foreign funds, particularly from Saudi Arabia, are on hold because investors are waiting for Pakatan Rakyat to take over the federal government.

Anwar would be speaking at another ceramah in Kuantan tonight and in Batu Pahat tomorrow night.

*********************************************

The last time he had a ‘wayang’, it caused a lot of  opportunity cost to the nation.

He had the ‘wayang’ of people tried to inject him with HIV infected needles in prison (hence the order to do his blood test under Contagious Disease Act – that was how the DNA profiling was made in 1999) and later, how he was purportedly being systematically poisoned with arsenic whilst in Sg. Buloh prison. Justice Arifin Jaka ordered that he underwent strict medical examinations (‘trial within trial’ , as delay tactic) and HUKM Director Dato’ Dr. Khalid A. Kadir,  who is also the nation’s utmost eminent endocrinologist (specialist of internal medicine) and his team of nine top most expert failed to ascertain Anwar’s claim.

The thirteen million Ringgit question is, how far will the ‘wayang’ go before Malaysia turn towards another mob-driven anarchy attempts?
