Don’t use my name for politics, says Johor Ruler

KOTA TINGGI: Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar has warned politicians not to use his name for their own personal gain.

“Do not drag me into politics” he said, adding that such action was rude and offensive.

Sultan Ibrahim pointed out that he had been following the news, especially in the state.

“In Batu Pahat, a politician had tried to create problems among the people by using my face in a banner,” he said during the closing ceremony of Kembara Mahkota Johor at Padang Majlis Perbandaran Kota Tinggi here yesterday.

He added that politicians should not use the influence of Rulers for their personal agenda and the police should investigate the issue.

Sultan Ibrahim also urged the people not to be swayed by the actions of such politicians.

On another matter Sultan Ibrahim reminded government officials to serve the people diligently.

“I would like to remind government officials to serve the people with integrity.

“Do not do things solely for your own benefit,” he said.

He also reminded enforcement officials to uphold justice as it was their responsibility to do so.

“Do not adopt a double standard when carrying out your enforcement duties as anyone who breaks the law must face the consequences,” he said.

Tuanku Sultan Johor melepaskan benih ikan semasa lawatan program Kembara Mahkota Johor 2010

Laporan Polis keatas Cina liberal biadap

Laporan The Malaysian Insider, Perkasa slams writer for ‘insulting Agong’.

Cina liberal makin biadap!

Enforcing NEP on minority religions

A football analogy of religion in Malaysia will be this:

The Ketuanan Melayu-Islam (KMI) team has on the pitch 11 players. The opposing team, the Minorities, fields 5 players – this ratio follows the Ibrahim Ali formula of 67% bumiputera representation, albeit appropriating the Christian native and pribumi animist share.

The referee is the KMI team manager, and the linesmen, the KMI club president and treasurer.

The goalmouth on the KMI side is 8 yards wide and goalpost 8 feet high. On the Minorities side, the corresponding dimensions are 30% extra at 10.5 yards/10.5 feet, thereby giving KMI strikers an advantage in chances for scoring. Furthermore, the Minorities goalkeeper is permitted to keep goal with only one hand.

Before kick-off, a ‘let’ is given by handicapping the Minorities three goals. The duration of play is 30 minutes each half, reduced by a quarter of an hour in keeping with NEP affirmative action.

If after the final whistle the scorecard still shows the Minorities ahead, the match will automatically go into extra time. If KMI fails to equalize despite the extended play, they will be accorded five penalty kicks. And if KMI still proceeds to lose despite the rules of the game deliberately crippling their opponent, the KMI fans will riot and burn down the stadium.

Does the football hooliganism allusion have any basis? The Shah Alam cow-head oafs and the church arson indicate, yes. The fact that the Mazu ‘Goddess of the Sea’ statue cannot be erected in Kudat, Sabah shows there is no level playing field.

Without any fair play, the conduct of the game then hinges on ‘toleration’, that is, the extent to which fundamentalist Muslims can tolerate the notion of pluralism in the matter of religious verities. Reciprocally, at what point would Muslim insistence on Islam as the sole divine truth make life too intolerable for the dhimmi?

Reaching breaking point

If I were to do some storekeeping, what’s ‘mine’ as non-Malay, non-Muslim is very scant. Small roadside shrines constructed under trees, faux churches in shoplots or looking like factory buildings and YMCA complexes (the rebuilt and recent completed Metro Tabernacle church is one example), temples in terrace houses. What’s ‘yours’ is magnificent and everywhere.

Not only do ‘you’ get free public expression of Islam, you also receive overflowing public funds. I needn’t delve into details; it’s not like most people don’t already know.

To further my football analogy, let’s take the junior league. One aspect of our religious NEP is the restriction on non-Muslim fellowship in schools. Conversely, there is no restriction on Kelab Islam.

Banning non-Muslim religious societies is like forbidding the stepchildren from being taught football and depriving them of footie practice in the school field.

While other religions are kept off the timetable, Islamic Studies is an integral component of the syllabus. It is mandatory for Malay students to take the paper in public exams.

In some schools, doa (Muslim prayer) is recited weekly during assembly. However, if a Christian, Hindu, Sikh or Buddhist prayer were ever recited in a gathering where Malay pupils are present, there will be uproar.

In some former mission schools (now become national school), crosses and icons of Virgin Mary and other saints have been removed by the new principals. And perhaps chapels closed down too. There have been incidents of teachers confiscating crucifixes and other religious symbols worn by pupils.

Why do you think that more than 90 percent of Chinese parents see no choice but to shield their children from the sekolah kebangsaan system? If I were a mother, I would never wish to subject my vulnerable child to a bellicose environment where my race, and the traditions and faith beliefs I’ve imparted to my son or daughter are disparaged.

In national school, even should my offspring be lucky enough to dodge any active proselytization, there is not escaping the Islamized climate that favours one party and discriminates against the other.

If you try to tell a Malay about another religion other than the one he was born into, you are guilty of a crime punishable with jail. Christian literature is required by law to carry a disclaimer ‘for non-Muslims only’. The Muslim is perfectly free to persuade you that his religion is best. You’re hard pressed to rebut, particularly when – for instance – the bible cannot be published and printed in the national language locally.

When you try bringing imported religious material through customs, these Christian CDs and bibles in Bahasa Indonesia are confiscated. Books on comparative religion are banned, even Karen Armstrong’s innocuous ‘The History of God’.

Where are we headed?

Circulars issued by the Education Departments and directives interpreted (if not further extended in scope) by Little Napoleons result in the alienation of non-Muslim pupils. Were the controversies in the Klang High School, and other schools in other states merely isolated episodes? I’m more inclined to see a determined NEP pattern arising from the powerful institutional forces of Islam at work.

There have been children who were converted during their schooldays. The Susie Teoh case was one that made legal history. Susie was formally instructed in Islam without the knowledge and consent of her father. The authorities made her a ward of the state until she was almost of age to legally convert to Islam. Another case is S Banggarma converted as in child in an orphanage.

Ahmed Burhan Tee Abdullah, who is the younger brother of controversial Utusancolumnist Ridhuan Tee, gave an illuminating account of his introduction to Islam in a ‘Bicara Agama’ column of the same newspaper. There was no compulsion insofar as Burhan was concerned; it was his own heart’s desire.

Nonetheless, some points crop up in hearing Burhan’s narrative. He recalled how the ustaz in his school was able to answer “clearly and logically” the questions posed by him as a child whereas to his disappointment, Mr and Mrs Tee failed to satisfactorily explain the significance of religious rituals inherited and practiced by the Chinese.

Granted we are not acquainted with the Tee family faith practices. But taking a more general view, can you fault Chinese or Indian or Orang Asli for not being able to provide adequate spiritual guidance to their children when they themselves are religiously oppressed by the state?

On the one hand, Islamisation pervades every cubic inch of air we breathe in Malaysia.

On the other hand, other religions are suppressed. One infamous incident occurred in 2004 at Christmas where the Selangor Sultan and assorted cabinet ministers were invited guests. At this official function, hymns mentioning Jesus could not be sung.

A person like Lina Joy cannot safely reside in Malaysia. A youth bearing the name Ali bin Bakar on his Mykad made front page news in a national paper because he is Buddhist – such a shocking, sensational revelation!

Those who can among the minorities have elected to emigrate rather than challenge the NEP. The pro-Malay policy that was to have ended in 1990 is prolonged under various guises and set to continue into the distant future.

Those who can among the minorities have elected to emigrate rather than challenge the NEP. The pro-Malay policy that was to have ended in 1990 is prolonged under various guises and set to continue into the distant future.

It will be the same for religion. NEP yielded Ketuanan Melayu; NEP phase II yields Ketuanan Islam. For its poster boy, Ridhuan Tee is the face. But look too at the state sanctioned structures and processes that facilitate the creation of such a convert.

Converts are even paid money by the state when they embrace Islam. When a ‘victory’ or human souls are won by NEP-like means, how honorable is that?

***************

Little Napolean-rina

Little Napolean-rina, the Drama Queen of Selangor

That would be the best describes Selangor State Tourism, Consumer Affairs & Environment Executive Councillor Elizabeth “Soft Porn Star” Wong.

The recent fiasco involving the Her Majesty Seri Paduka Raja Permaisuri Agong’s attendance at Islamic Song Festival, a signature event of Selangor Musical Extravaganza 2010 is just the tip of her arrogance. She got away once on a much more serious and scandalous issue and she may get away with this, so much for Accountability, Transparency and all that bull.

Elizabeth Wong’s high handedness is not only confined to snubbing the HM Raja Permaisuri & HRH Sultan of Selangor but to all concern, the state exco, the event managers and the rakyat.

It is common knowledge now that Event Managers hired by Tourism Selangor Sdn Bhd are still being owed money for events that they managed during Selangor Musical Extravaganza. Further to that this chaps have no idea when they are going to receive their payments as Little Napoleon-rina had decided to release payments only after she has met all of them in what is termed a post mortem of Selangor Musical Extravaganza.

The Little Napoleon-rina had fixed the post mortem meeting at 3.00pm on July 27, 2010 with all the Event Managers being invited to submit their reports of the events managed by them. It was made to understand that all outstanding payments are to be released to the respective parties after the post mortem had been concluded.

Unfortunately Little Napoleon-rina felt the meeting was too insignificant to merit her attendance and gave it a miss with no explanation other than she had to attend to an urgent meeting somewhere else. Suddenly she felt that getting to the bottom of why the recent events of Selangor Musical Extravaganza 2010 was not well attended nor receive much publicity or why Her Majesty the Queen had departed the concert much earlier than scheduled was the least of her priorities.

The post mortem ended just as it begin with a big zero but the only good thing of the meeting is Little Napoleon-rina had the last laugh when all present were informed that no payments will be forthcoming until and when the Event Managers had an audience (favourite term used by Selangor YBs now) with Little Napoleon. To date 7 days after that eventful post mortem meeting, the Event Managers are left balancing in the air. Out goes PKR’s slogan “For The Rakyat”.

The arrogance of this Little Napoleon-rina is clearly defined with her simple absence from all the events that were held during Selangor Musical Extravaganza 2010. Other than attending the media conference announcing Selangor Media Extravaganza and officiating the Launch of Selangor Musical Extravaganza 2010 on 26 July 2010 (that by the way for both functions she turned up late) the Little Napoleon as the Chairman of The Main Organizing Committee did not see it fit to attend any of the event nor be present when Her Majesty the Queen came a calling.

In her capacity as the Chairman, she had only chaired one meeting during the lead up to Selangor Musical Extravaganza. The Little Napoleon-rina even failed to see the oblivious when she attended the official launching ceremony of Selangor Musical Extravaganza 2010.

As the Guest of Honour  at the event held at Dataran Petaling Jaya (famously known as Padang Timur) on 26 June 2010 there was hardly a crowd of 200 to witness her riding a hot air balloon and unfurling a mammoth banner of Selangor Musical Extravaganza 2010.

The stage was there, the entertainment was there, the hot air balloon an added attraction, the 2010 FIFA World Cup was to be screened Live on a large screen and the venue was right in the heart of Petaling Jaya opposite the highly patronized Amcorp Mall.

Amazing an early indication of the disaster to follow, yet Little Napoleon-rina did not raise an alarm and called for an emergency meeting of the Main Organizing Committee to address the issue of poor attendance.

As the Chairman and State Exco Member she had the opportunity to gear the Local Councils to deploy people or even her DAP/PKR members to all events. What should be of utmost concern of her is also the Islamic Song Festival that Her Majesty the Queen will be attending.

Alas the Little Napoleon-rina felt all this was of no importance but a trip to Shanghai was better than to get the rakyat to attend some insignificant events of Selangor Musical Extravaganza 2010.

Today from various reports it is reliably learnt that this Little Napoleon-rina of Selangor is adamant that the Event Managers are to be blamed for whatever fiasco that occurred during Selangor Musical Extravaganza 2010 and to prove that she is withholding payments to this parties concern.

Truth be known that the Selangor Government had only allocated a sum of RM750,000 to be divided over 16 events for the duration of Selangor Musical Extravaganza. Although a number of the events were self funded a majority of the events were not.

The Event Managers had been awarded the letter of acceptance in late May 2010 and based on the inadequate sum allocated by the state government had agreed to seek sponsorship from the private sector. However in such a short period it is impossible to raise any form of large sponsorship and even the State owned GLCs shied away from participating as sponsors.

The Event Managers had voiced their concern that no sponsorship was forthcoming and advised to postpone the Little Napoleon-rina’s desire to seek publicity by hosting a media conference to announce the diary of events for Selangor Musical Extravaganza 2010. When a formal announcement is made there is no turning back on cutting down on events to fit the miserly RM750,000 allocated by the State of Selangor.

The Rakyat in this case the Event Managers are now saddled with the burden of fulfilling Little Napoleon-rina’s high ego, continued with the events or fear being blacklisted for not delivering as what was presented in their respective proposals submitted to Tourism Selangor in early March 2010.

All the events were executed by the Event Managers. The stage musical plays organized by PJ Live Art was superbly staged, foreign artistes had in their Facebook pages commended the Event Managers for an excellent staging of the event they were privileged to be part off  and so did the other events such as the Karnival held at Dataran Petaling Jaya (Padang Timur).

The Event Managers have expanded their own financial resources to execute the events and in some instances forking out more than 100% of what was allocated to them by Tourism Selangor. Yet when this event managers seek their final payment of 10% from Tourism Selangor, the Little Napoleon-rina has the gall to tell these rakyat of ours  that she would only release payment after she had a found the basis of finger pointing this whole fiasco on one party.

Typical of the Little Napoleon-rina she did that the first time around with her own personal scandal and got away with it and now she is following the same formula.

A bit of advice for Selangor’s Little Napoleon-rina, the events as we all know were executed, in some cases excellently but all the events were poorly attended. With a budget of RM750,000, failure to obtain sponsorship from the private sector and event managers left to shoulder a bulk of the event expenses, what do you expect – the Event Managers to fork out more of their own funds to advertise and promote the events.

It is so oblivious unless to the blind in the State Exco, Little Napoleon-rina and her Main Organizing Committee’s failure to seek more fund from the state government is a better way of explaining the whole fiasco in terms of non existence of promotions leading to dismal attendance of the various events.

What is so glaring is the Selangor State Government and in particular Selangor’s very own Little Napoleon-rina’s ineptness in not realizing that some of the events that was held during Selangor Musical Extravaganza has the potential to place Selangor on the International Music Scene.

Others have taken note but not Little Napoleon-rina as she is busy in finding scapegoas and also with holding payments to the already beleaguered event managers.

In the meantime the Selangor State Government wallows in thoughts that they have spend millions for Selangor Musical Extravaganza and they are demanding for answers in State Exco Meetings and the State Assembly. Little Napoleon knows the truth that with a paltry sum of less than a million Ringgit for an extensive campaign such as Selangor Musical Extravaganza 2010, what can one expect – decent events (at the expense of event managers) but not with all the trimmings of full blown advertising and promotions campaign to draw the crowd.

Furthermore if the leaders of the state in the form of the Exco members and the MB do not see it fit to attend any of the events during Selangor Musical Extravaganza, you expect the rakyat to attend in droves.

As the saying goes, ”Leadership by Example”, in the case of Elizabeth Wong in particular and the Selangor State Exco this was certainly not the case with regards to the Selangor Musical Extravaganza 2010. About her being a Little Napolean-rina: Little Napoleanism is now synonymous with PKR. So many leaders like Zahrain Hashim, Tan Tee Beng and Wee Choo Keong who left quoted this ‘power crazy’ syndrome that is infecting PKR.

Selangor PR Govt no sense of decency

“Frankly, you are in a lot of trouble”, a phrase that often used on me when I was still in primary school. I was a mischief then, like other boys. However, I won’t be in as much trouble as YAB Menteri Besar and Exco of the Selangor State Government, lately.

Khalid Ibrahim led rogue-Pakatan-Rakyat Selangor State Government have been rubbing HRH Rulers the wrong end. First it was HRH Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah on the proposal to use alms and tithe collected by the Baitulmal for development purposes. Now, the Selangor State Government seems to have insulted HM Seri Paduka Baginda Yang DiPertuan Agong.

Malay Mail’s front page this afternoon:

Date with the Queen

Selangor government seeks audience to apologise to Her Majesty

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government has sought an audience with the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Nur Zahirah to apologise to Her Majesty for the embarrassment caused when she graced the recent International Islamic Song Festival.

The ineptness of the State government included:

● No-show of almost all the top State administrators and lawmakers, including Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, to welcome the Queen;

● Less than 200 crowd in the 5,000-capacity Melawati Indoor stadium here when the Queen attended the song festival; and

● Failure to inform the Sultan of Selangor about the visit of the Queen to the State and the Selangor Muzikal Extravaganza 2010, of which the song festival was the signature event.

Tourism Selangor general manager Noorul Ashikin Mohd Din told The Malay Mail this morning that the State government was awaiting a date to explain the July 4 fiasco to the Queen.

She said a delegation led by State Tourism, Consumer Affairs and Environment executive councillor Elizabeth Wong would meet the Raja Permaisuri Agong.

Noorul Ashikin said the almost one-month delay in meeting the Queen was due to Her Majesty’s tight schedule.

Selangor State executive councillor for Women Affairs, Science, Technology and Innovations, Rodziah Ismail, had earlier told The Paper That Cares that Khalid had already apologised to the Sultan of Selangor over the embarrassment caused to both him and the Queen.

Rodziah said she was upset over the events that led to Selangor getting a bad name. She said the State executive council had discussed the matter and appropriate action would be taken against those responsible.

Noorul Ashikin, when asked why the promoter O2TW and not the State government had extended an official invitation to Her Majesty, said Tourism Selangor had followed the procedures.

The State government has taken flak for ignoring protocol and allowing an events promoter to deal directly with Istana Negara.

*****************

Could the Selangor State Government expect to walk away just by mere apology to HRH Sultan?

HRH Sultan of Selangor was indirectly to have embarrassed of HM Raja Permaisuri Agong, for the poor audience and failed to be informed of her attendence at the event, held for the State of Selangor. It symbolically mean that the rakyat of Selangor ‘insulted’ the consort of the Custodian of the Federal Constitution, Defender of the Faith and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces.

That is not the extend of the ‘damage’ from this failed event. It seems that the Selangor State Government refuse to pay the contractors involved in the project. Lead promoter O2TW bills have yet to be settled.

Little Napolean-rina, the Drama Queen of Selangor

When the contractors demanded payment for work done, Exco in charge Elizabeth Wong refused to release the checques to the contractors even though they were made to understand that payment have been prepared and ready to be dished out. Instead, Wong insisted that the contractors see her first before payment is released.

It is made to understand the Selangor State Government have also not paid the contestants. The winners also have yet to receive monies due to them. This is an embarassment for an International Islamic Song Festival.

Now the question, is it ept and appropriate for Wong to present herself to HM Seri Paduka Baginda Raja Permaisuri Agong? Shouldn’t the Menteri Besar himself do that? Then again, the Menteri Besar has in the past demonstrated his inappropriateness, with regards to his position to HRH Sultan of Selangor and HM Seri Paduka Baginda Yang DiPertuan Agong. Khalid even made HRH Sultan Selangor to openly oppose the former’s intention to use monies collected for alms and tithe from Baitulmal for development purposes.

Elizabeth Wong, embarrassment to Selangor State Government

Let us remind ourselves naked footages of Wong about to have sex were corculated widely amongst avid sopo internet users. We already know that she was not decent enough to resign her position as an Exco (despite initially “offering herself to go”, which eventually proven to be a ‘wayang’, just like everything else about PKR) and just went for  a mere ‘holiday’, to ‘cool things of’.

For Wong, she talked about “Continuing to fight justice in Malaysia” and clearly stated in the video when she offered to resign. However, by being the Exco-in-charge and not dishing out payment and monies, is it just?

The extend of lack of decency by the Pakatan Rakyat led State Government seems to be bottomless.

ISA: A tool to preserve democracy

This is simply too much talk against the much dreaded Internal Security Act (ISA), by persons practicing precarious politics to win and assume power. It was introduced by the British Administrators previously as Emergency Ordinance (upon the formal declaration of Emergency in 1948, after uprising of communist terrorists) and superseded in 1960 by a Parliament act. It is now an integral part of the Federation of Malaysia Constitution.

When introduced fifty years ago today, then Home Minister Dato’ Ismail Abdul Rahman (later Tun and died as Deputy Prime Minister) said in the Dewan Rakyat that ISA is neccesary for multi-ethnic, cultural and faith Malaysians to preserve democracy in the healthy and progressive manner.

Excerpts from his speech:

“I maintained then and I maintain now the view that the Internal Security Act is essential to the security of this country especially when democracy is interpreted the way it is interpreted in this country. To those in opposition to the government democracy is interpreted to mean absolute freedom, even the freedom to subvert the nation. When cornered by the argument that democracy in the Western sense means freedom in an ordered society and an ordered society is one in which the rule of law prevails, they seek refuge in the slogan that we should imitate Western democracy one hundred per cent.

I am convinced that the Internal Security Act as practiced in Malaysia is not contrary to the fundamentals of democracy. Abuse of the Act can be prevented by vigilant public opinion via elections, a free Press and above all the Parliament

**************

In 1956 when Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra of UMNO led three-party-coalition which won the first free elections 0f 1955 managed to convince HRH Rulers, who were then given the ‘first right of refusal’ by British to take over Federation of Malaya upon Independence, to give up the absolute right to govern and instead adopt the Westminster-style ‘Constitutional Monarchy’ democratic system and agreed to accept one million state-less Non Malays as citizens (previously not regarded as ‘subjects of HRH Rulers, based on the Treaty of the Federation of Malaya 1 Feb 1948), Federation of Malaya now is laden with the complexity of multi-ethnic, cultural and belief. Unchecked, this could trigger a serious disharmony between the different ethnic groups, with diverse sensitivities, heritage, cultural and religious beliefs and expectations.

Hence, there is a need to maintain the harmony and sensitivities be observed.

Unfortunately, through out so many politicians and political aspirants (even when they claim they are not into politics, just mere being “NGO activists”) thread on very precarious and volatile fine lines of antagonising harmony, disrupting stability and subtlety process of inciting and instigating based on deceit, hatred and manipulation of facts and historical chronology and consequences. Most of them realised their position as minorities and underdogs and they needed a ‘revolutionary’ (quick and effective way) element to win the imaginations and support of the majority, even by ‘force’.

When first introduced, communist sympathizers and leftists used NGOs such as trade unions as a platform to incite and instigate the minority against the majority, in their hope to assume or seize power since the majority would never democratically elect them into office. They used their position as trade unionist, NGO leaders and community leaders to spread their politics, with the true intention to confuse and make the majority to rise against the beliefs, based on deceit, hatred and incite/instigate.

The ability to disrupt the harmony and destabilize the society with politics of hatred, incite/instigate and deceit and manipulation of facts is clearly demonstrated when DAP joint forces with Gerakan to insult the Malays, days after winning the 1969 May General Elections. The stand-off on the new post general elections Selangor Government and the confusion that lurks on the episode plus the Chinese youth shot by the Police in Kepong were capitalised fully in several days of staged procession (using the funeral as a perfect cover up) and demonstration all over Kuala Lumpur. As a result, on the afternoon of 13 May 1969 bloody racial riot broke.

Racism politics simmered down after that although communist terrorists activities, now penetrating via civil societies still continue. The third quarter of 1980s, saw the Chinese Chauvinism on the rise again and the corresponding Malay nationalism reciprocity, where the Police resorted to hail 113 politicians of various background were hauled up using ISA in “Operasi Lalang”. The term ‘Lalang’ was metaphorically used because “It was necessary to stop from dry long grass (lalang) from catching fire and becomes out of control”.

ISA was then deployed against activities of Sabah cessation by mainly Kadazan Dusun politicians like Dr Jeffrey Kittingan and Maximus Ongkili, from the confidence of post November 1990 General Elections which saw BN trampled in Sabah. There is also a lot of underworld activities in Sabah to bring in influx of illegal immigrants and the escalation of insurgent activities in neighbouring The Phillipines which warranted the use of ISA. The Abu Sayyaf related hostage taking and guerilla warfare is a clear example.

Then Malaysia saw an unprecedented upsurge of mob street politics and demonstrations-turn-riot upon the sacking of Anwar “Mat King Leather” Ibrahim from Deputy Prime Minister’s position on 2 September 1998 for ‘sexual deviancy and sodomy’ and ‘Reformasi’ was born. Suddenly, Malaysians are incited and instigated by Anwar and his band of Anwaristas in an enigma of politics of hatred, deceit and manipulation of facts. ISA was again deployed where besides Anwar, his closest and staunches Anwaristas such as Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (now Minister of Defense), Dr Zambry Abd Kadir (now MB Perak) and Ezam Md Nor (now Senator) were detained briefly. Anwar and Anwarista which is promoting the practice premise of anarchy-induced politics, again appreared in the change-over-the-Perak-Government episode in January 2009.

The upsurge of Jemaah Islamiah extremism and terrorism also compounded from the late 90s and well into the first decade of the third millenium. The robbery of the Southern Bank in Jalan Gasing, Petaling Jaya was an eye opener. Exactly ten years ago, Al Maunah Bukit Jenalik incident also opened new horizon on extremism attacks against Carlsberg plant and the Batu Caves temple. More and more JI related operatives and sympathizers were hauled up under ISA.

The ‘open-ness’ but weak policies of PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Dato’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi allowed further abuse of the freedom of expression, threading on the lines of hatred, inciting and instigating and manipulation of facts. Some, like rogue blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin and Indian extremist group HINDRAF resorted to deceit in their angle hatred-induced presentation of their struggle. Needless to say, ISA was then again used to maintain stability.

Freedom of speech and expression have been grossly abused over and over again and this must be stopped, for the sake of the larger Malaysian society in diverse forms and positions. The volatility of the multi-plural Malaysia have been exposed and challenged so many times over but never compromised. In all, they have been contained and order, stability and harmony have been maintained and sustained, for daily lives to go on, progress to have been achieved and Malaysia to move on. Since Independence, Malaysia saw 12 different general elections despite attempts to violate the democracy from these acts of extremism and politics of hatred and deceit.

Majority prevails. ISA was instituted by the process of democracy. In essence, ISA is a complementary and necessary tool to preserve the healthy practice of democracy in Malaysia.
