It is no surprise to find Al Gore campaigning today against the phony “threat” of global warming allegedly posed by industrialization in both the “developed” and underdeveloped worlds, to anyone familiar with the history of his racist, anti-development, imperialist relations with Malaysia.
Here is a brief overview:
In November 1998, President Clinton had to skip an important meeting of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum (APEC) in Kuala Lumpur, due to a military crisis in the Balkans (which had been instigated by Al Gore and his pal Richard Holbrooke). Clinton sent Vice President Al Gore in his place to represent the United States. Only two months earlier, Malaysian Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad had implemented currency controls and fixed currency rates to counter the attack on the Asian currencies by George Soros and his fellow hedge fund speculators.
Clinton had been considering a new international financial architecture, which would have seen the Malaysian move towards currency controls as a possible model for developing nations to protect themselves within a new monetary framework.
However, rather than building the needed relationship between the United States and Malaysia, Gore launched a public assault on Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir, and in defense of the deposed former Finance Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who had defended the IMF’s conditionalities and rejected Dr. Mahathir’s controls. As Finance Minister (and Deputy Prime Minister), Anwar had implemented an “IMF austerity policy without the IMF”, before Dr. Mahathir dumped him.
‘We Should Fry Him’
Gore was the featured speaker at the APEC forum on Nov. 16 1998, sharing the podium with Dr. Mahathir. Outside the conference center, anarchists supporting deposed Anwar were rioting in the streets, making calls to bring down the government. Claiming that Malaysia could not protect his security, Gore demanded that the hotel management shut down the air conditioning, to prevent terrorists from putting poison in the ventilation system.
Then, before a sweaty audience, Gore incited the anarchists, “Democracy can give the stamp of legitimacy that reforms must have in order to be effective, and so, among nations who suffer economic crises, we continue to hear calls for democracy, calls for reform, in many languages. People power. (Reformasi). We hear them today, right here, right now, among the brave people of Malaysia.”
International Trade and Industry Minister Rafidah Aziz called it “the most disgusting speech I’ve heard in my life,” while Foreign Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi (now the Prime Minister) said “Malaysia finds the incitement by the U.S. government to lawlessness by certain elements within the country, to use undemocratic means in order to overthrow a constitutionally elected government, most abhorrent.
Malaysians do not take kindly to sanctimonious sermonizing from any foreign quarter, especially the United States, a country which is known to have committed gross violations of human rights”.
Dr. Mahathir was more direct “We should fry him. Al Gore does not love Malaysia nor its people. Al Gore and his government only wants to manipulate and control our country”.Gore did not apologize, but told Russian Prime Minister Yevgeni Primakov (another target for Gore’s intended “regime change”), “That is the American message and I am proud to deliver it here and anywhere go. Moving into the 21st century with a strong economy really requires democracy and self-government”.
Anwar’s Friends to the Rescue
When Anwar Ibrahim was convicted of corruption and sodomy (a crime in Malaysia) after a 14-month trial, in August 2000, his pal Al Gore, then in the heat of the Presidential campaign against George W. Bush, took time out of his campaign to speak out against the rule of law, “I am deeply disturbed by the verdicts handed down in Malaysia in the case of Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim…. The show trial [he was] forced to endure mocked the international standards of justice.”
Two days after the 1998 Gore tirade in Kuala Lumpur,the (Asian Wall Street Journal) offered the jailed Anwar Ibrahim their editorial page. Anwar showed his allegiance to the international financial institutions and to colonial policy, “Instead of pointing the finger at speculators and blaming ‘unrealistic demands’ set by international agencies acting as lenders of last resort, Asian nations would do well to put their houses in order first”, he wrote.
Asian nations must end “ambitious plans for outlandish projects” commit themselves “to wiping out corruption and nepotism”, remove tariff barriers and eradicate “subsidies, monopolies and favoritism. So many vested interests are at stake.
Unless the gale of creative destruction is unleashed on these rent-seeking and parasitic corporate activities [i.e., national industries], the Asian economy will never regain its past vigor.”
A few weeks later, speculator George Soros returned the favor in a speech at Johns Hopkins, calling for Anwar to be released, while accusing Dr. Mahathir of supporting his “cronies” at the expense of the economy, concluding “So I think what needs to happen is, he needs to be removed from power”.
When Anwar was released from prison in 2004, he was greeted by his two closest allies in the West, Al Gore and Paul Wolfowitz, who was then at the center of running a military version of “regime change” in Iraq. It was probably Wolfowitz who arranged for Anwar to get a position at the Johns Hopkins University School for Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington, where Wolfowitz had previously been the dean. Anwar also got a position at St. Anthony’s College in Oxford, England, where he met with Gore, who was by this time running his hedge fund in London, the Generation Investment Management. Anwar also spent time with his old friends from the British oligarchy, Chris Patten and Gordon Brown.
Returning to Washington, Anwar found another lucrative position working for Wolfowitz at the World Bank, imposing conditions on developing nations that reject his warped form of “democracy.” He also took on the leadership of a project sponsored by Dick Cheney and Cheney’s daughter Liz, promoting “regime change” through subversion in the Arab world, called “Foundation for the Future.”
When Paul Wolfowitz had to find a place to send his girlfriend because of a potential conflict of interest at the World Bank, Anwar took her in with open arms, turning his “anti-corruption” head the other way when Wolfowitz corruptly arranged to pay her a bloated tax-free salary on the World Bank tab. Wolfowitz may be out of a job as a result (see “Is Wolfowitz Dead Meat?”).

In February 2006, Gore shared the stage with Anwar at the Jeddah Economic Forum in Saudi Arabia. This year, Gore is sharing another position with a different Malaysian, which he might find less satisfying – both he and Dr. Mahathir have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. In Gore’s case, he is clearly campaigning for the “Peace of the Grave” for millions of the world’s poor.

Hisham said the people should not gamble away the future of the country by championing race politics. The irony is he does not have to look too far for such people.
What Khairy and some of the UmnoYouth leaders did was to champion race politics. It is obvious that Hisham did not point his finger at his own colleagues for wrecking the future of the country.
He is wrong because he did nothing when his fellow colleagues in Umno Youth were making all sorts of racist statements. He is wrong when he is equally guilty of doing the same – championing his own race.
It is better for the Umno Youth leadership to realise now that the original spirit of the New Economic Policy (NEP) was meant to help the poor and truly marginalised malay community to catch up with development. The policy was meant to assist them to reach a level playing ground with other communities.
Based on the first objective of NEP, there is no connection between the malay agenda and the policy. On the contrary, when the policy was introduced, the language used to frame the policy framework was non-racial, e.g. eradication of absolute poverty regardless of race.
Unfortunately, over the years the NEP was manipulated as a tool to breed patronage politics. Patronage politics is the chief cause of corruption. It is the kind of political system which is used by the ‘Little Napoleons’ to perpetuate their corrupt practice and their hold on power.
As a result, we enriched the privileged few and well connected but neglected the poorest 40 percent of society.
It is the distortion of the NEP policy implementation that we criticise. We support special privileges to given to the poor regardless of race so that those at that socio-economic level can use the extra assistance to make a better a living. Privileges should not given to those who are already living comfortably. The NEP is not a privilege to be given to people of a certain skin color.
A methodology used since 1971 should merit a comprehensive review so that we do not leave out some important but marginalised segments of the society. We need to find out why after 34 years of the NEP, the poorest 40 percent of the society are becoming even poorer.
The government should focus on closing the income gap between the poorest and the richest regardless of race. One effective way is to focus on capacity-building and enhancing access to economic means and opportunities.
Nope. You got the equation wrong.
BN won was because there is no equal playing field. In a free democratic country, all parties are given adequate airtime on national television, newspaper, Late Show with David Letterman, etc.
Here, coverage is only for BN. Each time you switch on the TV, you will see our Bapa Slogan sleepy face. You don’t have a chance to catch a glimpse of any of our oppositions figure. Tell me when was the last time you watch Anwar on national TV?
All the draconian laws in Malaysia prohibit free speech, and our local mainstream media will have to abide by it. Try to switch on to any of our TV news at 8 o’clock later and the answer is very clear there.
In conclusion, our oppositions are not weak. It is the unfair level of playing field. Period.
The writer shows a serious lack of knowledge and understanding of the role of MCA in the pre-independence era. Not only was MCA was a political tool of the British colonial power, other Alliance parties like MIC and Umno were also political tools of the British.
The British made use of MCA, MIC and Umno to fight the Malay Left and the Malayan Communist Party (MCP) in order to protect its economic interests in the then Malaya.
The Chinese were confined to various Chinese new villages under the Briggs’ plan to curb the influence of the communist party. MCA was then granted a licence to run the Million Dollar lottery scheme by the British authority to make easy money from the Chinese community. In return, the MCA had to use part of the profit to win the hearts of the Chinese in the new villages. This strategy worked well to serve the interests of the British master during the pre-independence days.
When the time has come to give independence to Malaya, the British kept its promise by working only with Umno, MCA and MIC. On the other hand, the real independence fighters, including some prominent Malay Left leaders, were arrested and locked up in prisons. And the war against the MCP continued with greater intensity.
But true leader like Tan Cheng Lock were sidelined by other MCA and Umno leaders in the run up to the independence negotiations. Cheng Lock had promised the Chinese community to present the general demands of the Chinese community to the British. But he was barred from attending the final round of talks in London. The MCA was represented by HS Lee and Tan Tong Hai.
According to the late Tunku Abdul Rahman (in one of his writings), Tan Tong Hai threw the entire general demands document into a wastepaper basket in a London hotel room instead of bringing it up at the negotiation table. That is the reason why I often tell the young people that the betrayal of MCA could be traced back to its inception. As a result of this unforgivable sell-out, Chinese Malaysians were treated like second-class citizens in our land. The Chinese were stuck with the ‘non-bumis’ label thanks to MCA.
It is people like Leong Yew Koh who instigated Tunku to strip the citizenship and teaching licence of foremost Chinese education pioneer Lim Lian Geok. Check with Loot Ting Yee. He is one of the mother tongue education pioneers who can verify my story.
The entire history of MCA is filled with betrayals, crimes and sins. They have failed to preserve and protect the interest and rights of the Chinese community which they have claimed to represent.
Take a closer look at these scandals – the deposit-taking-cooperative scandal, the Aik Hua Holdings scandal, the Chang Min Thien Fund scandal, the MCA JE Fund scandal, it is a never-ending list. And guess what? Most of the victims of these scandals were MCA members and supporters.
Mind you, it was MCA leaders that instigated the closure of the original Bai Xiao (SJKC Damansara) in Petaling Jaya. It was also the efforts of SOS Damansara Action Committee and the pressure mounted by DAP, DongJiaoZong and the entire Chinese community that brought about the unprecedented speedy construction of the new SJKC Damansara in Tropicana.
It is a great shame that MCA leaders do not even bother to get accreditation for the certificates, diplomas and degree courses offered by TAR College (TARC). Recently, a young Malaysian Chinese boy’s application was rejected by the Royal Malaysian Police simply because the academic qualifications he obtained from the MCA sponsored TARC were not recognised by both National Accreditation Board and Public Service Department.
Under the current MCA leadership, the Chinese community can only request for a new Chinese primary school when one is ‘dead’. And all these years, the allocation of funds for Chinese primary schools remains unfair and unjust; only about 2.4% of the total budget is given to the Chinese stream and about 1% given to the Tamil stream. The rest was all given to the malay (national type) primary schools. None of the MCA ‘tai kohs’ (mainly Chinese educated) dare to make noise on this subject.
Yes, Lee Kuan Yew was not totally wrong. The Umno-led BN government has been systematically marginalising the Chinese and other non-malay communities. And what did MCA leaders like Chan Kong Choy and Ong Ka Ting do about it? And why were they keeping so timidly quiet when Umno ultras like Hisham and Khairy make all sorts of racist remarks and even waved a keris time and again shamelessly?
MCA is indefensible. That is why none of the MCA leaders dare to show up for the debate in Machap. And for the same reason, none of them have the courage to rebut me on all the historical facts I raised in my book entitled ‘Accomplice? Coward? Culprit? The role of MCA in the Chinese community’.
Living in the northern state ever since primary school, I told myself that Malaysia is not the country I want my family to lives, just in case. Seeking better education and employment opportunities elsewhere, my siblings left our hometown one by one, so did our neighbours.
None of my sibling resides in Malaysia and I am now a PR in another country but I came back. First, seeking business opportunity and second, I come back because this is my country.
Without the contributions of non-malays there will be no Malaysia, so why must I runaway and let the Umno malays took over all the Chinese property we have earned through hard work.
The racist policies that Umno pursues, is putting this country in a brink of collapse. On the surface; it seems like nothing is worth fighting, millions of non-malays have left; perhaps million more will go; then how?
I encourage my brothers and sisters not to come back to Malaysia, now I believe strongly I have done the right thing.
Some nights, when the air is cool, when you are sitting out in the garden thinking about your loves ones, and wondering if you have given them the right suggestions about not returning to Malaysia, especially when your parents are old, very much pressurising but……….
Everyday when we read the papers, we begun to realised the stupidity of our advice, the fact is like in the film Jurassic Park:
Nature will finds its way (to survive), we don’t need to give advices like these, they are afraid for us and they are learned, like my brother now oversea, says to me that “he has made the right choice not to return back”, my bro-in-law intends to migrate next year, we are not on the talking terms and therefore I have nowhere to persuade him, he is a professional, he is made up his mind.
In short, exodus has already happened, no need for us to encourage this phenomenon, just let nature and the Umno malays run its course. Let us pray that we have an exit ticket.
Emigrating from a developing country to a developed country is one of the most important decision of one’s life – career, family and financially.
With globalisation and the world becoming borderless, mobility of business and employment is important to ensure your security and success.
At this moment, India, with its English education, is the biggest exporter of professional human resources. Soon you will see them in all parts of the world. China is its industrial power. Imagine, with 45% of world population, you combine the two.
There are increasingly strong competition for a better life and place out there.
I wish to point out that the Orang Asli, not the malays, are the original inhabitants of Malaysia. Most of the malay Malaysians came from Sumatra and other parts of Indonesia. They only migrated here much earlier than the Chinese and Indian Malaysians. It does not mean they deserve privileges or rights just because they were the pioneer immigrants.
It is true that there have been abuses under the name of malay special rights and it is the duty of the malays in particular, and all Malaysians in general, to stop it so that the rightful malays get their rights, and the non-malays get their rights as citizens of this country.
It is a sad thing to say, but I do believe the main thing that is holding back malays is not the Chinese or the Indians, but the malays themselves. That is why Mahathir and Pak Lah have been quoted as telling to throw away crutches and work hard to face the challenges of globalisation.
The malay and others of the same mind should learn to stand on their own feet rather than claim for special privileges and rights. The world is becoming globalised and if they don’t change their attitude, they will only become beggars in their own country.
As for the malays who insist on hiding behind the veil of malay special rights – you have lost the respect of non-malays a long time ago.
We also suspect that the current situation will, unfortunately, get worse if no action is taken now. Why? Because our kids in school hardly mix with each other. They will grow up with little understanding of their fellow Malaysians, and with the suspicions that exist, it will be worse.
The truth of the matter is that polarisation in Malaysia is caused by the discriminatory practises of the government – especially after the NEP – rather than vernacular education.
The NEP is upheld for the rich and not the poor in Malaysia.
Whether we admit it or not, the problem is that the special privileges and rights given have now resulted in only a selected few malays getting richer and richer. The bulk of the malays, especially in the rural areas are not benefiting from the system.
Poor people are poor people, rich people are rich people – no matter which race they come from.
The poor in Malaysia must be served but I am sure all taxpayers feel that this should be done in a manner which is blind to age, ethnicity, gender and religion.
What is wrong with extending help to all deserving citizens based on merits and needs regardless of race?
The Malaysia problem is that rich do become richer. And because of the political system, the players are the same.
Out of control – this is all I can say about any type of enforcement and the level of corruption in Malaysia. No idea what Pak Lah has done in his four years in office but judging from the ground, I guess nothing much.
If you have ever heard of the simple saying, “Give a man a fish, he eats for a day, teach him how to fish and he eats for a lifetime.” you will realise that many non-malays have learned how to fish but the government is still handing out fishes to the malays. One day the fish will run out.
If you want to say discrimination is here in the US, yes, of course it is. Can you name a country where it doesn’t happen? But let me tell you one thing – if you go looking for it, you will find it. But in Malaysia, you don’t have to go look for it because it seeks you out, slaps you in your face every which way you turn, and is sanctioned by law!
Official figures have more than one million Chinese Malaysians emigrating over the past 25 years. Why did they emigrate? I am sure the government knows.
For most professionals, living abroad has its own ups and downs. But you get dignity, fair treatment and respect for your ability. You get a voice too. And ears to hear you.
Brain drain by the tank-loads is what we get. Every single year, Malaysia loses people who could potentially contribute to the country immensely.
So malay, you may keep your rights and perpetuate them. Such things are archaic. Who loses in the end? Your country, which should have been a first world one by today.
I sympathize with those that have benefited from the NEP, but the bad news is that the price he pays for his progress is much higher than what he pays for his benefit.
These special privileges and rights were once a necessity for them to move forward. Today, after many decades, they find themselves still standing in the same place.
It is a shame that our history has been constantly twisted so that our younger generation has no understanding of Malaysia’s foundation and its true aspiration.
It is arguable that if not for the contributions of the Chinese and Indian Malaysians who helped in the development of this country tremendously, Malaysia would probably be in same category like Indonesia or the Philippines, if not worst.
To improve the malays lot, more have to be made to work in private companies where competition is real and what counts is your ability. If special rights only help malays to become government servants, then all the more reason not to invoke special rights.
But of course, the present ruling elite drunken with wealth, will continue to fight this dream to ensure that Malaysia is kept divided so that BN can continue to rule.
Alternatively, Malaysians may begin to realise the dream of a new Malaysia.
The bitter truth is that the majority of this nation don’t see the need to change things yet and until then, we can do little about it.
The bottom line with present day globalisation is this: compete on a level-playing field or you will lose. Plain and simple.
Well, Algore’s attitude and lack of protocol needs much to be desire. But his message has substantial truth. Outlandish contracts, uneconomical mega projects, endemic corruption; arent these recipe for disasters and avenue for speculators to act. Isnt is coincidence that the 3 countries in Asean affected most by the crisis has a high rate of corruption and nepotism? Didnt the same speculators tried agaisnt Hong Kong and
lost in the game? TArent these valid questions whcih were not asked.
As I see it, Malaysia has achieved such wealth inspite of Mahatir. If not for him, the country would have prosper more with the kind of resources that the country has. Isnt it during Mahatir;s era, that the complete malaynisation of the civil service was implemented and corruption and nepotism were the order of the day. Isnt it that Badawi received an overwhelming majority becasue of his manifesto which is contrary to Mahatir’s policies; which is a resounding rejection of Mahatir by the people. What is so disappoting about Badawi is that he went back against his words; not only to Mahatir but to the citizens of Malaysia. He let corruption and nepotism to continue to fester and he is going the same road as before which is into building of uneconomical mega projects. Worse, he is even seen to be endorsing corruption; if giving RM3.0 million to each UMNO division prior to the General Assembly of UMNO using government coffers is not corrupt practice, then I dont know what is.
The government is doing whatever way she can to make you and me to feel good. But is everything hunky dory?
The country’s coruption index is getting higher and gangsterism is slowly but surely on the rise. Mind you, I am not talking about those committed by criminals but by members of the ruling party. Ijok and Bandar Bukit Puchong are classic examples with the latter case even being endorsed by the government. Maybe rearing and nurturing a bunch of mat rempit goons is part of the agenda to use gangsterism as a way to control the opposition in future. If that is, arent we going the same road as the Mugabe goon who literally destroy the whole beautiful country and is using the said gangsterism as a control.
Now you have families broken up forcibly because of religion. In whose god’s name is that allowed but the present government seems to endorse with their inaction. Which government MP has dared to stand up except for a minority who was then censured and literally cold storage ( remember Zaid Ibrahim). Is that type of authoritarian government be allowed to flourish and rule till thye kingdom come?
Well, we have to ask ourselves what sort of government we want and the legitimacy of Badawi to lead this country. Is there a better alternative ? Its a choice we gotta make and I will surely not put my future in the present regime. At this moment, the best candidate to me is Anwar, despite his deficiencies and history.

PAUL WOLFOWITZ’S DEAL FOR HIS SWEETHEART

Anwar Ibrahim’s good American buddy, Paul Wolfowitz is in deep trouble with the World Bank, an organisation of which he is president, only because the post is always filled by a USA appointee. But because of the same White House shameless bulldozing support, he may yet escape falling on his own sword of anti-corruption, though he would be severely tainted by his demonstration of shameless double standards.
Paul Wolfowitz has been the man (or one of them) who insisted on invading and occupying Iraq, even long before President Bush (junior) entered the White House. He has been a principal member of an American rightwing think-tank, Project for the New American Century, which had advocated the full exploitation of America’s sole superpower status (after the former USSR collapsed) to dominate and control various things, including the world’s reserves of oil.
The US Senate Committee on Intelligence found that when 9/11 occurred, Wolfowitz called for the attack and invasion of Iraq. 9/11 must have been the excuse he had been looking for to convince a new and fairly clueless president to launch Gulf War II, but this time all the way to Baghdad to occupy it.
It did take a little while for his wish to happen but there we have it today, the present chaos of Iraq. Political analysts said when the Iraqi occupation went sour, he was quietly promoted out of the Bush Administration into the powerful position of World Bank president. Cronyism doesn’t exist only in Malaysia Boleh.
By tradition and reality of who’s providing the most cash for the World Bank, the appointment of the organisation’s president is always an American nominee of the US government. But his appointment encountered many opponents in the bank, including American bank officials, because of his role as the major proponent for the war in Iraq. They feared that Wolfowitz would implement the Bush Administration’s policies on aid, rather than represent the views of the World Bank’s members.
His performance thus far has been under severe crticism because he was more hellbent on countering corruption related to World Bank loans than to facilitate loans for needy nations.
But Mr Anti-Corruption had no hesitation in ordering a very hefty but dodgy sweetheart pay rise and promotion for his own sweetheart partner, Shaha Riza, a senior World Bank employee. The promotion and pay rise were not approved by the relevant Bank committee. ‘Twas a case of what Malaysians would term ‘cakap ta’serupa bikin’ or not walking his own anti-corruption talk.
The Bank’s top officials want him to show some decency and resign but he has refused, knowing President Bush would continue to support him.
He was asked whether he could still effectively force the bank’s big borrowers to tackle corruption as a pre-condition for them receiving funds. But instead of answering that, Wolfowitz insisted he would not resign.
The bank’s development committee issued a statement, which said it was crucial for the member nations of the bank to “ensure that it can effectively carry out its mandate and maintain its credibility and reputation as well as the motivation of its staff”
What many of the bank’s finance ministers’ are saying is that Wolfowitz should resign or be sacked.
It’s like saying (very much in vain) that Bush and his cohorts, or Ehud Olmert and Ariel Sharon, should be tried for war crimes in the same way as they had tried Saddam Hussein or Slobodan Milošević.
Power sucks and absolute power sucks absolutely.
The US-Anwar Scheme – the US Govt through their various personalities have done enough to make sure that AI will kow-tow to them. The US thinks that AI is still good enough for a regime change though the present Malasyian leadership is already under theri clutches but the No:1 man is considered disposable.
On the issue of Malaysians migrating on the allegations that there is nothing much to offer them here, to me I say good riddance. If they find the grass is greener the other side of the fence so be it but don’t make wild allegations. Malaysians of Chinese and Indian origins are not being marginalised. The physical facts all over the country are clear evidence that they are in fact way way ahead of the so-called special people the Malays. Rhetorics are but one of the Malays favourite past time. They are more attracted to form rather than substance. The Chinese community know this weakness very well and that is why they can live very comfortably in the midst of Malay community. But to the Malays on the other hand are they being equally reciprocated both by the Chinese and Indian community – I doubt. So do not provoke them.
Admittedly the Malays are not the original inhabitants of this country. But they were the first to establish soveriegn states acknowledged by foriegn governments.
This is n non issue why bring it up in such a provocative manner.
Admittedly that the politicians are those that should be tried and taught some good lessons on how to behave as the people’s representatives.
I dont understand why in Malaysia there has to be “legalised discrimination” among the so called races in the plural society 50 years after independence. No need to draw parallels with other countries e.g. USA and its negro discrimination which existed / exists for a long time since 1776 – stick to what you can control i.e. your own country and its politicians. Why cant everything and anything in Malaysia be based solely upon merit and full transparency for the full benefit of all those people in Malaysia who are CITIZENS of the one country.
Isn’t the Governemnt duty bound and also the people of Malaysia (being the kind, big hearted and god fearing bunch that they are ) strive to treat one and all CITIZENS as the same equal “siblings” or is it acceptable that “siblings” be discrimated against because of their 50years ago generational origin, religion or colour ?
Dont preach to me about Malaysian history and what the intent was post 1957 and especially after that disgraceful1969 period. Pre and immediately post independence perhaps there were suspicions about lack of national pride and loyalty in those days with regards to the CITIZENS not born in Malaya at that time.
However we are now talking about the third , fourth etc generation of CITIZENS who were born in Malaysia and have no inkling of their so called “distinguishing roots” – their only memory being that of their own “sovereign state” i.e. their family home on Malaysian soil and their Malaysian national identity.
Just as first generational migrant Malays from Sumatra / Java kingdoms etc would have behaved just like the early Non Malay migrants in 1900s’ with regards to maintaining and reminiscing about their original “kamung” ties, note however that the current Malay generation now have no emotional and nationalistic ties back to those foreign roots. So how long did that take – or is this time period relevant at all ?
Current generation discriminated against CITIZENS also (I am bold enough to say)now have no such ties except to Malaysia.
Let me also put down this thought provoking notion – even if all Non Malay CITIZENS were to accept and convert religion, would this then suffice to create full equality – I bet my bottom dollar “NO” – for e.g. just look at the subtle snipes and comments re. Indian Muslims.
