Beliau menjelaskan “Sebenarnya, jika nampak berbeza, ianya perkara kecil sahaja.

PAS Kelantan ‘unholy alliance’ with PKR

PAS is still having an ‘unholy marriage of convenience’ wuth PKR, this much rumoured lurking-round-the-corner upcoming XII General Elections. This even include Kelantan, PAS’s stronghold for the past 18 years, despite Murshidul Am and Menteri Besar Dato’ Nik Aziz’s statement that PKR is “no longer credible”.

This is was NST reported:

January 18, 2008 23:43 PM

PKR’s Credibility Eroding, Says Nik Aziz

KOTA BAHARU, Jan 18 (Bernama) — Pas spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat who is Kelantan Menteri Besar, says Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) is in “a state of disorder” and he believes that the PKR’s credibility is eroding.

He said Pas would not rely on a cooperation with the PKR but was more willing to have a straight contest against Barisan Nasional (BN).

He was commenting, after delivering a weekly lecture at his party’s office here Friday, on a reported statement by the PKR recently that it would not contest in Kelantan in the coming general election.

“We had the experience of cooperating with Parti Melayu Semangat 46 in the 1990s, then the pact crumbled and they returned to Umno,” he said.

However, he said, the relationship between Pas and the PKR was still good and it would continue as long as the PKR still needed Pas as a partner.

In KEMAMAN, Pas deputy election commissioner Datuk Mustafa Ali said: “The PKR is holding discussions with Pas and the DAP because we want to have a straight fight against the BN.”

However, his party did not have any pack with the DAP, he said during a dialogue with the Chinese community in Bukit Mentok.

Present were Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and the party’s deputy spiritual leader Datuk Dr Harun Din.

In the dialogue, Abdul Hadi gave a promise that Pas would field at a Chinese candidate for a state seat in Terengganu in the coming general election and it would also ensure the welfare of the Chinese community in the state by reinstating the land alloting process as was done when it was in power.

Pas would also reduce the price of oil which could bring down the prices of other goods, he said.

However, PAS is still ‘sleeping’ with PKR and they are working out a ‘pact’ for this General Elections. An announcement is expected to be made, early next week.

The Star has the story:

Seat pact expected on Tuesday

KOTA BARU: PAS and Parti Keadilan Nasional (PKR) are expected to announce their seat allocations for Kelantan at two rallies in Tumpat and here on Tuesday.

The speakers at the rallies include PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Mentri Besar and PAS spiritual adviser Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, PKR strategic planning director Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Kelantan PKR head Nik Mahmud Nik Hassan.

PAS has held Kelantan since the 1990s and PKR wants to help it maintain its supremacy.

It is learnt that while PAS was willing to offer between two and four additional seats to PKR, the Kota Baru parliamentary seat now held by Umno’s Datuk Zaid Ibrahim proved to be the sore point.

Nik Aziz had earlier announced his intention to field Legislative Speaker Datuk Wan Ab Rahim Wan Abdullah, a veteran leader and PAS strategist, but PKR feels it has a better chance.

In the 2004 general election, PKR contested three parliamentary and two state seats, and lost all.

In Kuantan, PKR state chief Zakaria Abdul Hamid said the party would field mostly professionals of all races in the elections.

“Among others, we have lawyers, consultants, engineers and doctors and several professional women,” he said.

Zakaria, 43, contested the Benta state seat in 2004 and Bera state constituency in 1999 but lost both times.

Sources from PAS Kelantan said that PKR would be given five state seats. The same source however vehemently complains that PKR do not have members in Kelantan, let alone party workers and have to depend on PAS’s machineries.

Despite so many grouses on the grounds within PAS Kelantan, which include the Murshidul Am and Menteri Besar, PAS leadership still gave Anwar Ibrahim and PKR ‘face’.

UMNO Kelantan insiders are prudently estimating that they would only manage to retain 15-17 seats from the 45 seat Kelantan State Assembly and this guess-timates are very much what people in the Kelantan Menteri Besar’s Office is talking about. However, based on the ineffectiveness of PAS wakil rakyats on the ground and their eroding machinery, compared to BN’s, then to them, the chance is more realistically 50-50.

Mukhriz wants to contest polls if given the chance

By : Shuhada Elis

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 31:

Umno Youth exco member Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir has expressed interest in contesting the coming general election if he is given the chance. The 43-year-old politician and businessman said he was ready to handle the responsibility.

“My one-term experience as Umno Youth exco member exposed me to many leadership activities. If I am trusted as a candidate, I will give my best,” he told reporters after the Malaysia Down Syndrome Association cheque presentation ceremony here yesterday.

Mukhriz, who is also the Opcom Holdings Berhad chairman, presented seven cheques worth RM50,000 to seven Down Syndrome associations in the Peninsula to assist with their rehabilitation programmes.

The youngest son of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is the Umno Youth international relations and non-governmental organisation bureau chairman.

His term, like that of other Umno Youth exco members who are above 40, is supposed to end last year but Umno has postponed its elections until after the general election.

On 22 September 2004 UMNO party elections, Dato’ Mukhriz polled highest vote in the UMNO Exco race. He is known as an approachable and humble politician, even amongst the grass root level and is very popular amongst the rakyat, whenever he ‘turun padang‘.

His consistent involvement with humanitarian projects, especially the Peace Malaysia mobile clinics during catastrophic times such as the Great Johor Flood of 2006 and the big flood late last year received so much commendations and accords, including from media such as Berita TV3.
