Nine Hindraf Supporters Remanded From Sunday

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 17 (Bernama) — Nine of the 160 participants of the gathering organised by an unregistered organisation, Hindraf, Saturday morning will be remanded beginning Sunday, said Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Muhammad Sabtu Osman.

He said eight of them were men while the other was a woman, adding that an eleven-year-old girl was released after her particulars were taken.

“Our decision to use the water cannon succeeded in dispersing the crowd. However, we must emphasise that we had never attempted to enter the temple to disperse the crowd as alleged by certain parties.

“We respect their house of worship although we know that the practice of the participants of any illegal gathering is to seek refuge in temples nearby,” he told reporters at his office, here Saturday.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Sabtu said a police constable fractured his ankle after being pushed down while attempting to disperse the crowd.

“The incident occurred near the Masjid Jamek LRT station when Constable Mohd Farid Mohd Anwar, 20, from the service branch of Bukit Aman was dispersing the crowd.

“He has been warded at the Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) and police are now tracking down the suspect involved,” he said.

Muhammad Sabtu said police would continue to maintain security in the area although several roads that had been closed to traffic earlier had been reopened beginning Saturday afternoon.

Despite that The Parliament has already been dissolved on Wednesday to make way for the 12th General Elections and everyone within the rakyat who is eligible to vote (by-law) has the opportunity and power to decide on the Government, this illegal body still vehemently denied law and organized the illegal rally, under the guise of “Rose parade”.

Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan assured on the same day too that permits on political rallies and ‘ceramah’s would be issued to all political parties if they fulfill the requirements set, such as avoid issues that will arouse and provoke racial and religious issues.

Ample time is given to all parties, including the oppositions to state their case and convince the rakyat to give them the mandate and confidence representing them. The long campaign period (26 days) for this GE is even lauded by Opposition Leader Lim Kit Siang.

However, some people still ‘test the system’ and ‘physically provoke’, for their narrow but morbid political agenda based on sympathy, to stay relevant in the mainstream political arena. For that, it is so clear that the rally organised today has malicious narrow morbid political agenda, like the one held previously.

The follow through on these nine persons remanded will be watched. Especially when the ‘Flip-Flop’ decision to allow the very same people went scott-free the last time HINDRAF organised an illegal assembly and demonstration which turned ugly on 25 November 2007.
