UMNO Youth International Bureau’s Statement on US’s latest announcement

JULY 21, 2008

The Mockery of U.S Interference

The UMNO Youth International and NGO Relations Bureau strongly condemns the constant interference by the United States into the internal affairs of Malaysia, especially with regards to the detention of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim over sodomy allegations by his former aide.

Sean McCormack, spokesman for the U.S State Department who noted that the arrest of Anwar raised serious concerns about our rule of law should be reminded that his country paid absolutely no respect to this doctrine when invading Iraq, a sovereign nation of 28 million people.

Iraq is now a failed state, where the rule of law has ceased to exist. Conservative estimates indicate more than a million innocent Iraqi lives have been lost due to this illegal invasion, which was carried out on false pretexts and deceit.

Perhaps, he should also explain the atrocities at the Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp, a detention centre where prisoners are arrested with no charge yet are tortured inhumanely for as long as the U.S administration sees fit.

Anwar was arrested according to the provision of Malaysian laws, interrogated in accordance to proper rules and regulations and was released as soon as the police completed their questioning. He was treated just as any criminal suspect would have been, and none of his rights as a detainee were violated.

The same cannot be said for the approximately 270 detainees who remain incarcerated in GuantanamoBay. Perhaps, it is time this detention centre is closed down in a manner that builds confidence in the impartial rule of law in the United States, for it is surely a wound that continues to scar the face of the American judiciary.

It is best that those like McCormack and Senator Joseph Biden, who claimed that Anwar’s arrest was politically motivated, attempt to first fix the gaping holes in the American judicial system before instructing Malaysia on the rule of law. The United States has neither the moral high ground nor the expertise to lecture us on how we conduct our internal matters.

The UMNO Youth International and NGO Relations Bureau considers the statement made by the State Department, or similar statements by any foreign party, as undermining the sovereignty of Malaysia and the integrity of the Royal Malaysian Police.

  1. Syabas Dato’ Mukhriz Mahathir.

They can have Anwar lock, stock and barrel

  2. 1. Will Malaysians adhere to this simple but commendable press release or they inclined to believe the likes of the following
    • A letter “Annuar Saga: Something’s just doesn’t seem right” by John lee, a 2nd year student at dunno what college in the US.
    • Squalid attempt to smear Malaysian opposition unworthy of a democracy by The Times
The above articles appear in Malaysian Insider.

    2. We have now the likes of a trial by media, an American style of justice being played by DSAI and RPK. Foreign press as well as local opposition blogs are coming out strong to influence public opinion of a person who would not even dare to take a simple DNA test under the excuse that
    • The police cannot be trusted
    • The AG’s office cannot be trusted
    • The Hospital cannot be trusted
    • The DNA test cannot be trusted
    • Now the Malaysia Justice system cannot be trusted

The US never play by any rules except theirs and when it comes to the protégé whom they invested millions of USD, they will certainly come to the rescue promptly.

    3. Lawyer Karpal Singh now wants Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, his chief security officer and several other individuals to be summoned as witnesses in the ongoing Altantuya Shariibuu murder trial. His action is a consequence of the media hipe following the disclosure of three supposedly “explosive” statutory declarations, one by RPK and two by Bala, a PI. Even though RPK’s allegations in his SD have been refuted and Bala has neutralised his first SD, still Mr kapal Singh seized the opportunity to link the refuted hearsay evidences to tamper with the Atlantuya case.

    4. Such trials by media or their likes seemed to be making its mark in this country even though they are based on “false” evidences. It’s an unhealthy trend affecting our justice system and DSAI and RPK cleverly wants to steer in that direction – to make a mockery of our judicial system. Foreign powers and press are directly and indirectly assisting them by interfering in our rule of law.

  3. Lama nya menunggu something out of Pemuda…. awat lambat sangat nak respond. Whats next, beramai ramai march to the embassy??

  4. Two wrongs don’t make a right. I think we need a constant vocal opinions like the good old days of TunM, not only a tit for tat response. Asia does not need to live or govern their countries by US/Western standards. Tun has long advocated for a strong Asian way of doing things and I believe he has always said that Western ideologies/democracies is not necessarily the best or only way of doing things. We need capable, vocal leaders like Tun, not afraid to voice his opinions.

  5. BD,

Yeah, I agree with Jinggo (you might not remember me bro, but I do remember ya…hahaha).

By the way,BD, I agree with your previous entry but my question is this: Who should we choose as No. 1 and No. 2?

Do we want a clean, competent and progressive leader? If yes, Muhyiddin (relative to his competition) should get the nod. If that’s the case, who should be No.2?

Najib, for all intent and purposes, has too much baggage since the Ziana Zain days. Now his baggage is even bigger in the form of Rosmah.

The grassroot is TIRED of defending our leaders who can’t bother to protect the integrity and goodwill of UMNO.

This thingy about Ziana Zain is something unsubstantiated. Personally, I have not heard from anyone who could really verify the ‘so called’ affair being busted.

Yes, UMNO should not have leaders whose integrity is doubtful. However, are Najib’s personal issues tangible or something some people strategically and systematically created, to give a negative and ever lasting damning perception on the leader which Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad pushed for the next inline after PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Abdullah.

Isn’t the intesity and consistency of the vile attacks against Najib, something looks like orchestrated?

Anyway, have you been in the company of Rosmah Mansor, personally? Many have not. And yet they talked about her as if they really know her.

The gossipy trait of Malaysians simply brought them into the “sucker for nonsenseness” syndrome. Unfortunately, more people are infected and its getting more acute!

  6. Way to go Datuk..please disseminate your communique as widely as possible.. perhaps you should also do the Bahasa version. Well done. Am not so upset now!

  8. Kalau Tun Mahathir dapat “back up” dari US mungkin tidak menjadi isu kot…selamat berjuang demi kelansungan hidup UMNO!!!

  10. fuck u UMNO. if not bcoz of US, most malay r still up in the tree
