Was it an ego thingy more than anything else?

Tun Musa Hitam’s version of ‘Troika’. We here at BigDogDotCom found it rather strange that Sime Darby Group Chairman Tun Musa Hitam called for the media conference yesterday evening just to announce the appointment of Felda CEO Dato’ Mohd. Bakke Salleh as the new Group CEO for Some Darby, without actually announcing the date of commencement and more importantly, without Bakke even setting a date to relinquish his current position. This highly irregular hasty call is made when Dato’ Seri Zubir Murshid (the Group CEO who was asked to leave still has his contract effective till November) is legally still the Group CEO, Group Plantations MD Dato’ Azhar Abdul Hamid is the action Group CEO (endorsed by the BOD a month ago) and now Tun Musa announcing a new fellow coming but without specifics.

Why is this?

It was said that Azhar being a no-nonsense-straight-shooter, does not rub Musa as a cocky political-has-been the right way. As an arrogant man as he is known for, though he said invariably that  he encourages dissenting views but in actual fact, he usually quite do the opposite. History has shown that Musa as then the Deputy Prime Minister, was very uncomfortable when then Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad retained the twice challenger to his position as UMNO Deputy President Tengku Tan Sri Razaleigh Hamzah in the strategic and highly powerful Minister of Finance cabinet chair. Musa was Tun Dr. Mahathir’s biggest opponent in then the Government of the latter’s ambitious and grand plan of going industrial, especially Proton which in good time was proven to be a Malaysian success story. It is also thought that Azhar would put his foot down for any spending or tactical decision that Musa would want to do if the former thought that it does not have direct commercial value for the Group.

Of course, Musa would also use personal issues between other Sime Darby BOD members with Azhar against him. Probably the arguments of Azhar being ‘hot tempered’ executive as a strong point against him, but then again being a professional who is passionate about taking a stance that he could substantiate with numbers and fact, an ego trip would be a lame excuse to deny progress for Sime Darby. The personalities within the BOD clearly illustrate that some of them think highly of themselves in those seats being larger than life.

The fact is that, the BOD should be answerable for the three major scandals that loom the largest palm oil plantation based conglomerate in the world. People in the market were already making cynical punts when they talked about Bakun, Qatar Project and Maersk Oil Qatar projects which Sime Darby only officially admit when it became clear that there were people negligent in the stewardship then just mere “Cost over run”, if not anything criminal (yet to be proven as investigations is on going). Until today, none of the BOD either went to their own or made to go, which too many find to be highly irregular especially from the position of accountability and integrity.

Is Tun Musa trying to hide something really big like “A rotting elephant carcass in the room”, by having a ‘new-kid-in-the-block’ running the show?

No doubt that Sime Darby badly needed a good ‘spring cleaning’ soon. Some of the management who have been unethical and unprincipled must be reprimanded and this must be done quickly. Scandals that big do not happen without middle and senior managers being an integral part of it. It is doubtful that Bakke would be able to do a good job at this since he probably would not know most of the people that he would be leading from now on and the extend of these peoples’ ability and limitations. Then removing Azhar completely out of the picture would be best manner to retain things ‘status quo’.

Bringing in the top-job of a Group which employ 100,000 people from outside is definitely the best way to stunt the succession plan (if there is any) and at the same time kill the moral of the Sime Darby loyalists. Tun Musa was seen within Sime Darby as being bold and decisive when the decision to summarily instruct Zubir to go for a ‘leave of absence’ a little under 5 weeks ago but since yesterday, is thought to be completely losing all that ‘goodwill’ gained. For the first time since the Synergy Drive merger of the old Sime Darby, Guthrie and Golden Hope in November 2007, all the Sime Darby-zens rallied as one in this episode of the appointment of Bakke to be their Boss.

Bakke is a plantation man, who have had the luxury to do his job in GLCs where the Federal Government is there to back him up. Now, he will have to do this the commercial way and succumb completely to market forces and demands and expectations of the shareholders. 30% of Sime Darby income comes from non plantation such as industrials, properties, motors and even energy and utilities. Industrial and motors respectively  contribute RM 5.96 billion and 7.06 billion of the Q3 turnover for the Group and  RM 537 million and RM 233 million in profits, to complement plantations’ RM 7.98 billion of sales and RM 1.706 million in profits. Most of these, especially industrials and motors do well because the management have a good relationship with the principals, which is a key factor of success of brands like Caterpillar and BMW. Unlike Azhar, Bakke has no relevant experience in these trades.

Of course Sime Darby cannot be mentioned without stating that it is the fatest growing Malaysian MNC in the region. Much of Sime Darby’s operations are contributed from Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong, China and Australia and the earning is substantial. Sime Darby is also venturing into infrastructure operations in China which include construction and operation of ports and utilities. This is nothing like what Felda and Tabung Haji have to compare against, even jointly.

The effectiveness of Bakke to do what is expected for him to do and follow through the programs has now becoming doubtful. He is 56 years old (on the retiring leg) as compared to Azhar who is seven years younger and the latter is thought to be more open for new ideas and getting things done. Nothing significant Bakke demonstrated as the Felda and Tabung Haji Boss where else we in bloggosphere already learnt of Azhar’s ambitious but calculated with risk to double Sime Darby’s performance and results within five years.

We here in BigDogDotCom have empirically expressed our deep distrust to master-of-corporate-manipulator Minister-in-charge-of-EPU and former Minister of Finance II (during PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Dato’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s bleak five years of digressing and counter productive socio, political and economic period) Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop’s nurtured and developed executives. The appointment of Bakke to this position comes with a lot of skepticism that we here are worried that not much time and space left to be proven wrong.

Did Tun Musa, Tun Ahmad Sarji, Dato’ Seri Panglima Andrew Sheng, Kevin Barlow and the other BOD members who sit up there being ‘high and mighty’ jointly and severally consider all these before they make their hasty decision, just three weeks after they actually accepted the ‘Troika’ management representation to the BOD as a mechanism against future possibilities of “being misled”? Or was it ego and personal agenda that overcame the best of their judgment?

If there exist any tinge of ego in the decision to pre-maturely but irregularly appoint Bakke as the Group CEO instead of endorsing Azhar’s interimship against the objectivity of the exercise that eventually would strategically affect a lot of things, which include the profitability and ability to pay dividends to more than 8 million Malay and Bumiputera unit trust holders under PNB’s ASB and ASN schemes, then the BOD members are the ones who should be replaced.

Bakke Salleh appointed Sime Darby Group CEO?

Felda CEO Dato' Mohd. Bakke Salleh is being tipped as the new Sime darby Group CEO

Plantations based conglomerate Sime Darby Group Chairman Tun Musa Hitam is expected to call for a media conference this evening, to announce the new Group CEO since the untimely but premature ‘ departure’ of Dato’ Seri Ahmad Zubir Mursyid just exactly a month ago  in a huge controversy and probably scandal for the largest palm oil planter in the world.

Unconfirmed reports state that Felda Holdings Group CEO Dato’ Mohd. Bakke Salleh is being given the honour.

Dato' Azhar, flanked by Tun Musa Hitam and PM Dato' Seri Mohd. Najib Tun Razak at the announcement of the mapping of the palm oil genome

Presently, since the premature ejection of Zubir, Group Plantations Managing Director Dato’ Azhar Abdul Hamid has been appointed as the acting Group CEO. Not much could be said about Bakke taking over a conglomerate which in a very short time would be land owners and developers of 1 million hectares of palm oil (400, 000 hectares of ‘brownfield’ and 600,000 hectares of ‘greenfield’), being the largest producer of palm oil crude in the world. However, Azhar has plans for the Group. A master of producing palm oil in market conditions without having the luxury of direct Government subsidy, Azhar’s plantations division contributes 70% of the Group turnover and income. His mid term plan is to drive the whole Group to deliver 100% growth within five years.

“In many businesses, ideas and innovation fail to grow and because lack of capital and resources. Here (in Sime Darby), we have it all”, in his idea of promoting intrapreneurism amongst the executives as a drive for better results. Obviously, he intended to harness everyone’s competencies and creativity.

Former accountant turned  Islamic banker Bakke was previously in Tabung Haji, another large palm oil plantation group after Sime Darby and Felda. It was said that Tabung Haji’s cost of operations are not desirable against market forces and both Felda and Tabung Haji have the luxury being GLCs, unlike Sime Darby which is totally market driven corporation. Bakke would probably take a whole year just to learn names and their competencies in a conglomerate that employs 100,000 people and in tough times like this, probably its not the best opportunity to ‘Change horse mid-stream’.

What is worrying is that Bakke is one of those executives hand picked and nurtured by Minister-in-charge of EPU and former Second Finance Minister (at the times of PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Dato’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s counter productive growth of socio, economics and politics bleak interregnum period) Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop. It doubt that Sime Darby as a Group is able to afford further scandals and ventures that would bring temporary glitch to the Malay controlled corporate scene, such as Khazanah Holdings. This is over 8 million Malay and Bumiputera unit trust holders depend on Sime Darby’s profitability and most of all, ability to fork out cash and pay out dividends.

It is thought that Chairman Tun Musa Hitam ‘pushed’ for the appointment of Bakke, even though the BOD gave the interim confidence to Azhar and less than two weeks later, agreed to accept the ‘Troika’ management representation and chain of information to the BOD. For someone who reiterated his position of being a ‘Non Executive’ many times over, this appointment demonstrate otherwise. He should consider using his ‘Executive Decision’ clout to uplift the moral within Sime Darby Group, especially allowing the new ‘Troika’ form of reporting prove itself first and most of all, some members of the BODs who are veterans of the Bakun dam, Qatar Project and Maersk Oil Qatar projects to go first.

Tun Musa made the announcement this evening at Sime Darby Convention Centre:

Jun 14, 2010

Sime Darby names new CEO

KUALA LUMPUR – MALAYSIAN state-controlled conglomerate Sime Darby Berhad on Monday named Mohamad Bakke Salleh, a top official at plantation giant Felda Group, as its new president and chief executive.

The appointment comes after Sime Darby in May posted its first quarterly loss due to massive losses from its energy division.

The conglomerate recorded a loss of 308.6 million ringgit (S$131.74 million) in the three months to March 31 compared with a net profit of 150.6 million ringgit in the same period last year.

Yeh Kim Leng, chief economist with RAM Holdings, told AFP the number one task for the new chief was ‘to extricate the company from the current mess’.

‘Mohamad Bakke has to pull the company out of the mess and refocus on its core strength which is in the palm oil plantations and its downstream processing business.’ The 56-year-old Mohamad Bakke is currently group president and chief executive of Felda Global Ventures Holdings, the commercial arm of Felda Group.

The conglomerate last month had asked group CEO Ahmad Zubir Murshid to take a leave of absence before his contract expires in November after an internal investigation uncovered cost overruns in the energy and utilities division. Anti-corruption authorities had said they would investigate possible graft at the firm, Malaysia’s number two company by market value. — AFP

Sime Darby gets new president

KUALA LUMPUR, Monday 14 June 2010 (Bernama) — Datuk Mohd Bakke Salleh has been appointed as the new President & Group Chief Executive (PGCE) of Sime Darby.

The appointment is to take effect as soon as practicable, Sime Darby said in a filing to Bursa Malaysia today.

He is also highly regarded in the corporate sector.

Tuanku Sultan Johor tarik balik ‘Dato’ Jimmy Chua

Laporan Free Malaysia Today:

Jui Meng stripped of Datukship, blames Johor Umno

Thu, 10 Jun 2010 15:09

By Rahmah Ghazali and Stephanie Sta Maria

FMT ALERT PETALING JAYA: PKR supreme council member Chua Jui Meng has been stripped of his “datuk” and his “datuk seri” titles, and the former MCA leader claims Johor Umno had a hand in this.

The titles were conferred on him by the late Sultan of Johor when Chua was a Barisan Nasional MP.

Contacted this afternoon, Chua told FMT that he was warned about this before.

“There were warnings given to me previously, saying that Johor Menteri Besar Abdul Ghani Othman would advise the (current) Sultan of Johor to take back my datukship if I join PKR,” he said.

Chua claimed that he was also warned by another “Umno datuk”, whom he declined to name, not to go overboard.

“I am very disappointed with Umno and BN leaders for doing such a thing,” he said, adding that he does not blame the Sultan because he understands the “politics behind the move”.

The former health minister said he would return his “datukship medals” when he receives an official letter, adding that the palace had called him twice asking for the medals.

The Malaysian delegation consists of Member of Parliament, Nizar Zakaria, PGPO members Shamsul Akmar, Matthias Chang and Ahmad Faizal Azumu as well as two members of the press, Halim Mohamed and Jufri Judin from TV3. They are joined on board by former United Nations Assistant Secretary General, Dennis Halliday, Nobel Prize Laureate, Mairead Maguire, Derek and Jenny Graham from the Free Gaza Movement and documentary film maker Fiona Thompson.
The immoral and indefensible actions by the IDF in seizing and towing the Rachel Corrie from international waters to Ashdod thereby disallowing the aid ship from reaching the port of Gaza is an act of piracy. Israel has thus committed serious crimes on the high seas. PGPO demands that all kidnapped Malaysians and other nationals on board the Rachel Corrie be swiftly released unharmed.
Israel has no right to kidnap anyone especially from international waters nor forcibly detain and imprison them. Such primitive unilateral actions transgress international laws and fundamental human rights.
We call for Malaysians of all faiths and creed to pray for the safety of the kidnapped Malaysians as well as other members of the humanitarian aid flotilla. The people of Malaysia must stand united against injustice and cruelty perpetrated by the Zionist regime against members of the peace flotilla whose only crime is to want to lift the intolerable siege and alleviate the suffering of the innocent and brave people of Gaza.

Mairead went on the maiden Voyage of Dignity in October 2008, the second successful voyage for the Free Gaza Movement.  She was also on Board  Spirit  when Israel hijacked the Boat in International Waters, taking all 2l humanitarian passengers to Israel, where they were arrested, detained for a week in an Israeli prison and then deported.

Israeli operatives sabotaged ‘Freedom Flotilla’

(Cyprus, June 4, 2010) On Tuesday,, Colonel Itzik Tourgeman told the Knesset Defense and Foreign Affairs Committee on Tuesday that two more ships are on their way to try and break the naval blockade of Gaza. The head of research in the operations division said, “The ships have not reached their target as of today because covert action was taken against them.”

We had suspicions about our two boats, Challenger 1 and 2 and their mechanical problems as they sailed toward the flotilla, but we were not going to say anything unless we could prove it. Turns out we didn’t have to prove it. Israeli mouthpieces did.

The Guardian ran a piece the same day, saying,

Israel gave strong indications today that its forces had secretly sabotaged some of the ships bound for Gaza as part of the freedom flotilla.

Matan Vilnai, the deputy defence minister, was asked on Israel Radio whether there had not been a smarter alternative to direct assault. He answered that “all possibilities had been considered,” adding: “The fact is that there were less than the 10 ships that were due to participate in the flotilla.”

An unnamed Israeli Defence Force source who briefed the Knesset’s foreign affairs and defence committee on the widely criticised armed interception of the flotilla at sea, also spoke of “grey operations” being mounted against the flotilla.”

We were lucky that our two captains were supurbly trained and able to offload the passengers safely.

So we are going to make sure the Rachel Corrie is well protected and that Israel is put on notice that anything that happens to her, the passengers and the crew will rest with Israel. As a result of these threats, we’re going to pull Rachel Corrie into a port, add more high-profile people on board, and insist that journalists from around the world also come with us.

And sabotage happens with more than deeds. It also happens with words. In today’s Haaretz, Barak Ravid reported,

“A diplomatic solution seems imminent to allow the humanitarian aid vessel the Rachel Corrie to dock without incident at the Ashdod Port. According to European diplomats and senior Foreign Ministry officials in Jerusalem, quiet messages have been exchanged over the past few days between Israel and the group operating the ship, to allow it to dock.”

This, too, is sabotage in writing. We called Haaretz and the reporter. He did not return our call.

We have no intention nor would we ever have any intention of ever docking in Ashdod.

Govt wants subsidy to rakyat reduced but what about ‘Corporate Subsidy’?

Federal Government intended to reduce some of the annual subsidies of RM 74 billion to Malaysians annually, for fear if the subsidies continue on the increasing trend growth of 12% per annum would make the nation bankrupt by 2019. This was announced by Performance and Management Delivery Unit (PEMANDU) CEO Dato’ Seri Idris Jala last week.

The blunt statement obviously caused a lot of roar.

Never the less, the scare did catch a lot of attention. The concept of savings achieved from reduced or withdrawn subsidies is good and generally well received. 60% of the respondents recorded by PEMANDU so far gave thumbs up for the idea. In five years, the amount of subsidies saved would amount RM 1o3 billion. The reduction would reduce national debt to a more manageable level, where the Federal Government annual budget deficit would be reduced and gap narrowed. Lessons learnt from Greece very recently is sending shivers to many macro economists all over the world.

However, bold and courageous steps the Federal Government willing to take does not come without adverse opinion. Skeptics are concerned how it will affect majority of the rakyat, who are still very reliant on subsidy. Even subsidies on basic food such as rice, flour, sugar and cooking oil will affect most households.

Then again, many would want the subsidies to businesses be withdrawn. Some of them believed that businesses make money and thus should subsidise their services instead of the Government giving them subsidies for the rakyat. Top of the list are direct subsidies such as gas subsidy and contract purchase of power from IPPs. Other subsidies include deferred toll hike increase to tolled highway concessionaires. Other form of subsidies include tax allowances, incentives and breaks.

One of the tax allowance issued today is for AirAsia. Bernama.com has the story:

AirAsia gets tax break extension

AIRASIA Bhd has been granted a further five year extension of an investment allowance, which entitles it to claim an income tax exemption of 60 per cent on qualifying capital expenditure.

This must be incurred between July 1 2010 and June 30 2014.

The amount can be set off against 70 per cent of statutory income for each year of assessment.

The approval is subject to the condition that the capex will exclude any aircraft not based in Malaysia; and should any aircraft be sold or leased within five years.

In such a case, there will be a clawback of the investment allowance used on the aircraft.

On Monday, AirAsia announced a Q1 profit of  quarter billion Ringgit. This subsidy should not be allowed since AirAsia is making a lot of money from its operations and the shareholders are enjoying the profits derived. Then again, air travel is not essential for the rakyat of Malaysia. The consumers should pay for the travel. More over, millions of tourists enjoy lower airfare with this tax allowance that has been extended to AirAsia.

What is the point of AirAsia being the most successful and profitable low cost carrier in Asia when they enjoy subsidies? They already have been known for deferring payments to Malaysia Airports for the use of facilities all over Malaysia despite pocketing the money meant for the charge collected from passengers paying ahead before using the services.

Subsidies to money making businesses such as AirAsia should stop, at the expense of the Malaysian rakyat and detriment to the His Majesty’s Treasury. Subsidy is meant to alleviate the charge or reduce burden of the rakyat, for social development purposes. This is what PEMANDU should really look into, before lifting the subsidies on rice, sugar, flour and even charges to outpatients at Government Hospitals, proposed to be increased from RM 1.00 to RM 3,00.

Cabinet reshuffle: Mounting pressure to bring Khairy in?

Yesterday’s announcement of a ‘minor’ Cabinet reshuffle saw the alleviation  of  Dato’ Seri Chor Chee Heung to Housing and Local Government Minister and several Deputy Ministership being opened up for new faces such as Dato’ Richard Riot, Chua Tee Yong, Gan Ping Siau, Dato’ Maglin D’Cruz and once members of previous administration such as Dato’ Donald Lim and Dato’ G. Palanivel back in as Deputy Ministers.

None of the movement involved any of the UMNO MPs or Senators.

It was said that PM Dato’ Seri Mohd. Najib Tun Razak is under mounting and tremendous pressure to bring in Rembau MP Hj Khairy Jamaluddin, who is also UMNO Youth Head and defacto leader for BN Youth. The pressure not only come within UMNO Youth, but also from UMNO Leaders which include the top echelons.

The pressure was said to be so intense that PM Najib is not making any movements within the UMNO MPs and Sentors now sitting in Cabinet although so much lose talk are going about town with Cabinet names like EPU Minister Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yackop, PMO Minister-in-charge of Parliament Dato’ Seri Mohd. Nazri Aziz, High Education Minister Dato’ Khaled Nordin and even Domestic Trade and Consumer Minister Dato’ Ismail Sabri Yaacob and names within the Deputy Ministers Club being push up to Cabinet posts.

How long will this pressure to appoint Khairy at least as a Deputy Minister is not known. However, here in bloggosphere that we detected the intense campaign on all channels last November.

The “Thirteen Million Ringgit Plus” question is: Will PM Najib able to resist this pressure?

Inadvertently, everyone will have to live with the fact that Khairy is an intelligent and strategic minded leader. However, his direct involvement with PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Dato’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi saw Malaysia as a  whole and comprehensive system slide down to unimaginable level, proportions and most of all, the speed of the rapid digression. Despite Petronas already dishing out RM 254 billion in the form of taxes, royalties, dividends and other financial instruments within the ‘bleak fifth premiership’, the Federal Government today is said to be in dire cash position.

Needless to say, the majority of Malaysians would probably have something negative to say about Khairy. His ascencion to the UMNO Youth Head position 25 March last year is full of controversial, especially ‘money politics’ so many openly talked about. To have someone like this in the Federal Government is seen as bane more than anything else.

As a counter solution, UMNO bloggers already reside to the fact that Khairy is the elected UMNO Youth Head and he should be focusing on consolidating the once fragmented UMNO Youth due to the tri-corner fight and performance;  playing the role of the ‘aggressor’ and championing the interests of the Malays, especially the ones provided by the Federal Constitution and now being systematically and structurally challenged by liberal Malays and the Non Malays.

PM Najib must be mindful of what the rakyat is saying and not bow to political pressures. After all, rakyat first, remember?

Updates: Rachel Corrie steaming ahead braving brutal IDF, Mavi Marmara fate unknown

The shock of the pre-meditated pre-dawn attack on unarmed civillians in international waters that left at least 16 non combatant dead and 50 wounded (some gravely) has still not subside. The world at large (with the exception of US, Great Britain and other pro-Israeli allies such as Singapore) deplore the brutal attack and the deployment of tottally unnecessary use of excessive force against non combatants.

The remaining vessel in the Freedom Flotilla is the Malaysian sponsored MV Rachel Corrie, which at the moment is on full steam ahead towards Gaza despite the gross violation of international laws and human rights.

Statement from MV RACHEL CORRIE:

MV Rachel Corrie is now the sole ship of the international Freedom Flotilla moving towards Gaza. The Malaysian and Irish peace and humanitarian activists aboard, share their deepest grief and sense of lost with the loved ones of those killed and injured in the illegal action undertaken by Israel on Monday 31st May in the international waters of the Mediterranean. In the names of our friends, we are more determined than ever to continue into Gaza with our humanitarian cargo and our support for the blockaded and suffering people of Gaza. We expect Israel to respond to the international condemnation of its violence by not impeding by any means the safe passage of the Rachel Corrie. We appeal to the international community and United Nations to continue to demand of Israel our safe passage into Gaza.

Jointly issued by Malaysians and Irish on board the Rachel Corrie

Rachel Corrie is expected to turn around if met with IDF armed units as the yesterdays experience provided enough reason to demonstrate Zionist Israelis brutal attitude to respect any form of virtues except their own.

This is what is going on with the passengers and crew of MV Mavi Marmara who were violently and brutally violated by Israel commandos in international waters, 70km of the coast of Gaza. They were refused legal aid by their Israeli captors.

The UN Security Council Calls for Impartial, Credible Investigation of Israeli Boat Raid. The raid in international waters, on the aid convoy headed to Gaza left at least 16 civilians dead.

After an emergency session wrapped up in the early hours this morning, the council agreed to language condemning the acts that resulted in the deaths and injuries aboard the Turkish vessel Mavi Marmara and the European Campaign s vessel Spendoni.

The council called for a prompt, impartial, credible and transparent investigation conforming to international standards. The council statement also reemphasized the importance of implementing U.N. resolution 1860, which calls for the unimpeded provision and distribution of humanitarian assistance to Gaza’s 1.5 million residents.  The flow of aid has been severely hampered by Israel’s three-year blockade on the Gaza Strip.

Yesterday, Israeli-licensed attorneys filed two habeas briefs: one is asking for to release the passengers and the boats, so we can continue on our way to Gaza, since it was illegal to stop us in international waters.

The other one is asking for information on all of the passengers, because there has been a total blackout on where the passengers are, who was wounded and who was murdered.

Lawyers are only being allowed access for three hours every day from 13:00-16:30. They have the names of three Palestinians still in detention:

Sheik Salah, Mohammad Zeidan and Lubna Marsawa.

Haneen Zuabi, a member of the Israeli Knesset, http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/03/31/haneen-zuabi-new-arab-isr_n_181164.html

has been released, because she has immunity as a member of the Knesset. She held a press conference this morning in Nazareth to talk about the attack.

She was on board the Mavi Marmara.

Most of the survivors of the Israeli atttempted massacre now are taken to various detention camps in Israel. They are asked to sign a declaration that they attempted to enter Israeli territory wrongfully so that they can be deported. In reality, they were travelling in international waters, attacked with excessive arms by Israeli commandos, Israeli commandos boarded and illegally hijacked their ship and brought them to Israel shore against their will and shall not be willing state otherwise. They are now being threatened to be tried for illegally entry with ill intent into Israel and could be jailed under Israeli laws.

Please offer prayers for the success of their noble mission and safe returns of the these brave men and women.
