SC fiascoes raised in the Dewan Rakyat

The recent uproar against the Securities Commission abuse of power, ‘cover ups’ and selective prosecution and non challantness of several high profile cases involving some ‘controversial’ personalities was raised in Dewan Rakyat today. Recently-PKR-abandoned MP for Wangsa Maju YB Wee Choo Keong took the task.

Issues like the high handedness against journos BK Siddhu of Starbiz and Dalila A Bakar of Malaysian Reserve was packaged together in a question on controversial issues like merger of ECM Libra – Avenue Capital and all corporate deals involving Dato’ Azizan Abdul Rahman nee “Mrs Zarinah“, husband of SC Chairman Tan Sri Zarinah Anwar. The question is for the Minister of Finance to answer.

Zarinah was appointed to her current position by PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Dato’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in 2006, just prior before the ECM Libra – Avenue deal was concluded and gotten approval by the SC.

Its time that Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Mohd. Najib Tun Razak pay a lot of attention to regulatory bodies which are now behaving like ‘Little Napoleans’ and ensure that abuses no longer happened and thus restore faith into the ‘system’. This is imperative that transparency and good governance transcend across the board, so that healthy business practices are maintained in the effort to double the economy within the next Malaysia plan, thus delivering the so much talked about ‘high value economy’ node for the New Economic Model.

Abuse of power should be one of the threads under the National Key Results Area (NKRA) which is ‘corruption’ that PM Najib must address.
