Tun Dr Mahathir resting for flu in Melbourne

Fourth Prime Minister YABhg Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad has been admitted to the Epworth Hospital, Melbourne, Australia, for treatment of chest infection since 900 am today, Saturday Oct 2, 2010.

Currently Tun Dr Mahathir is  admitted to the general ward for antibiotics treatment and physiotherapy. His condition is stable and he has been advised to rest.

Tun Dr. Mahathir is expected to be admitted for a few days for observation.

Tun Dr. Mahathir, accompanied by Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, is in Melbourne, Australia, since Thursday and was expected to address a seminar on human development this afternoon, organised by the UMNO Club of Melbourne. He was the Fifth President of UMNO.

For the record, the Statesman celebrated his 85th birthday two and a half months ago. He had two successful cardio arterial by-pass graft surgery; once in Kuala Lumpur Hospital, January 1989 and the most recent, at IJN in September 2007. Both were carried out by eminent cardio-thoracic surgeon Tan Sri Mr. Yahya Awang.

His state of health had been very good. He has actively been invited to give talks and share his thoughts. The most recent which attracted a lot of nationwide attention was the call for the Malays to protect their rights, which was delivered in Pasir Mas. Three days ago he asked that new strategies are needed to ensure that Vision 2020 is delivered.
