Malaysian First: Riong Kali’s pants on fire?

Kalimullah "Riong Kali" Masheerul Hassan

Kalimullah “Riong Kali” Hassan is back writing. After a long hiatus, the media persona non grata  picked the topic of ‘Anak Malaysia’, which was a recent polemic initiated by DAP ADUN for Subang Hannah Yeoh.

Anak Malaysia — Kalimullah Hassan

June 10, 2011

JUNE 10 – Funny, isn’t it?

It’s not easy to be categorised as anak Malaysia in Malaysia. Fact is, it’s impossible to have your official documents state that you are a Malaysian.

I admire Hannah Yeoh and her husband Ramachandran Muniandy’s attempt to list their child as anak Malaysia. Perhaps they have started the national debate that may one day see the change in policy that many of us anak Malaysia have wanted all these years.

When my eldest child was born in 1984 in Muar, Johore, I faced that dilemma. My birth certificate says I am a Pathan as are both my parents. But my wife is Malay, although she comes from a mixed background, tracing her roots to Sri Lanka and China as well. She is Singhalese, Chinese and Malay.

And so there was this weird conversation I had with the clerk at the district office in Muar. He asked what a Pathan was. I said it was an ethnic group dominant in the North West frontier, in Afghanistan mainly, but also well spread over the sub-continent in Pakistan and India.

“Agama Islam ke, Encik?” he asked. Yes, I said, it’s so stated in my birth certificate.

Then he says my daughter’s race should follow the father, so, she was listed as Pakistani. Hang on a minute, I argued. A Pakistani is someone who is a national of Pakistan. My daughter is a citizen of Malaysia and should be Malaysian. Or, if he insisted on following the father’s ethnicity, she should be a Pathan.

But the clerk, who held the power of determining what ethnic group or nationality my daughter belonged to, insisted there was no category for Pathans in the official list. So, after a while, I gave up arguing. What’s in a name? A rose, by any other……

My wife was not happy. She insisted that the children should grow up with one identity and it was not going to be Pakistani, a country we had till then never been to and where we had no roots at all. But despite her arguments and tantrums at the district office when she was out of confinement, the only compromise she achieved was that instead of putting —— daughter of (d/o) Kalimullah, they removed the daughter of (d/o) and left just the name we gave her.

My second and youngest daughters were registered as Malays. That, I suppose, was because both my wife and I are Muslims. But my son, the third in the family, who was also born in Muar and was probably registered by the same clerk in the district office, was listed as Indian.

When the children started going to school, we had to explain to them why all these happened; why, although they were of the same mother and father, they were categorised as Pakistani, Malays and Indian. But it had not ended.

A few years ago, I was cautioned by the Road Transport Department (RTD) that if I did not change my identity card from the old plastic version to the new MyKad, they would not renew my road tax for my car the following year. So, I proceeded to the National Registration Department (NRD) in Damansara and asked for a change.

Déjà vu.

The clerk looked at my birth certificate and asked what a Pathan was. I smiled and explained and then – this guy was a bit meeker and not assertive — he asked what race he should put me down in my IC. “Bangsa saya Malaysia,” I said.

He asked whether he could put me down as “India”.

Now, having been through this all my life, I decided to have a little fun with him. “No, you can’t,” I said. “I am Malaysian. I am not from India. I was born in Malaysia. I am a Malaysian citizen.”

I asked him a theoretical question. What if you were born in England? And what if they put down your bangsa as “British” or “English” in your IC? Would you accept?

“Of course not,” he replied. “Saya Melayu; saya rakyat Malaysia.”

Therefore, I said, I should be Malaysian in my IC, or if that was not possible, I was certainly a Pathan.

The problem was, he said, there is no category for Pathan in the NRD. I had to be either a Malay, Chinese, Indian or dan lain-lain (others). The clerk was perplexed and confused and I felt sorry for him. I had had enough fun but it was the policy makers who had to decide, not the employees who were only following instructions. Therefore, I told him that perhaps he should talk to his boss and decide.

The next week, when I came to collect the MyKad, I was happy to sign off and go away until he asked me whether I wanted a print out of the information on the imbedded chip. He gave me a copy and my bangsa was listed as “India.”

So there you are Hannah. My wife is Singhalese, Chinese, Malay and perhaps along the centuries of history, an Arab, Indian, Anglo-Saxon as well; I am Pathan and maybe something else. Our flesh and blood — our children — are Pakistani, Malays and Indian. And, according to Government records, I am now an Indian.

By the way, my brother is married to a Chinese, another to a South Indian Muslim, three of them to Malays (including a Bugis), and one to a Hindustani (probably a Pathan), and I have relatives who are Kadazan, Dusun and Iban; I have cousins who are married to Canadians, British and Americans. I guess they have the same issues as I do. Most of our relatives are Muslims but we also have Christians and Buddhists among them, and if we were to look carefully, probably a couple of animists and Hindus as well.

I don’t really care now what the records say though it often rankles my family and I. They can record what they want — we are Malaysians, first and last.

So the definition of his children’s’ ethnicity is complicated. He is the one who prefer to make it complicated. An educated and exposed man of high stature and his experience to be so close to the powers that might be, Riong Kali could have simplified the matter for his and his circumstances. Then again, he chose to be isolated about it. Probably a trait of an unsecured man whose self esteem is not that high.

Of course he is proud of the ‘rojakness’ of the multiethnic of his own immediate family. That does not make him a Malaysian, whether ‘First’ and/or ‘Last’. It takes a soul with ingredients of patriotism, loyalty and nationalism, for someone to be a Malaysian.

It is easy to justify why he should be denied the claim of his Malaysian-pride.

First of all, it is widely known that when En Abdul Ghafar Baba assumed the position of Deputy Prime Minister 25 years ago, Riong Kali was invited to serve as a Press Secretary the nationalist. However, it was said by many his that ‘security screening failed’. “He was too close to Singapore”, was the popular notion whenever this story is being recollected.

Anchovy-eating-Shark = A corporate raid episode of deceit, manipulate, organised regulatory failure

Then, there is this ECM-Libra fiasco where in 2006, the broking firm ‘reversed-take-over’ an Ministry of Finance Inc. owned much larger firm Avenue Capital Resources Bhd. Riong Kali was part of the ‘raiding team’ where the acquiring firm actually had four times lesser capital and value compared to the target.

Of course, it was white-washed with an attempted fancy but flimsy merchant banking explanation which sounded more like a corporate-cover-up, as the excuse of ‘merger’.

The fact is that the infamous son-in-law of the day, Khairy Jamaluddin, was also part of the deal. Securities Commission Chairman Zarinah Anwar was much in cahoot regulatory-body-cover-up of the take-over scandal and both are still marked by the exercise. The merger enabled ECM-Libra to have the capital and resources large enough to qualify for a universal stock broking license and made the stock broking firm the investment bank what she is today. Along with Khairy and Zarinah, Riong Kali owe Malaysians the full disclosure of the highly elusive and dodgy deal.

The man who systematically and structurally destroyed NST

Then on 11 June 2006 via his weekly column in NST, Riong Kali lied about Prime Minister ‘Flip-Flop’ Dato’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi cancelled a meeting and rushed to meet Fourth Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad during the annual Nikkei event in Tokyo. It was at the time where Tun Dr Mahathir has started to openly criticize PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Abdullah for his weak leadership, administration and particularly, for the unilateral cancellation of the ‘Scenic Bridge Across Johor Strait’ in March 2006.

He was proven to lie when Tun Dr. Mahathir’s Press Secretary Sufi Yusoff issued a statement to clarify the truth. The deceit was about to make the ‘Feel Good Factor’ of PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Abdullah “Grandson of a renown ulama’ ” when he lead BN for a thumping thunderous victory of the 11th general election April 2004 to continue where else the rakyat started to have funny feeling about the negligent and intolerably weak leader.

Conveniently, tomorrow is the 5th anniversary of Riong Kali’s lie published in the centre bit of NST, where then he was the GEIC. At the top job in NST and purported a lie just to make PM “Flip-Flop’ Abdullah look good inadvertently brought down the credibility of the editorial.

Many criticized Riong Kali for this lie. As a result, in January 2007 he and three others plus NSTP decided to sue Supremo-bloggo-journo Datuk Ahirudin “Rocky” Attan and Jeff Ooi, which some regard as an ‘evil attempt’. That got the bloggers to come together. In the same breadth, the suit gravely eroded public perception of mainstream media especially NST.

Riong Kali 'Happy Hours': "Bottoms up!" Two of the power-crazy blokes who sued Rocky & Jeff

In five short years, Riong Kali at the helm of NST at the expense of making PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Abdullah look rosy and pretty, managed to ‘throw the spanner to the works. One time as a major referral of news for the English readership, PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Abdullah’s “Dia kawan saya” managed to bring the credibility and integrity of NST to a record low. He also should be held responsible for NST’s attempt of demonising Tun Dr. Mahathir as a racist, which should be categorically place him as an anti nationalist.

Recently, blogger Apanama scooped on the deal involving the system developed for Inland Revenue Board. Riong Kali’s hand in this made the exercise an attempt to ‘sell of information on Malaysians to parties abroad’. His name was also implicated of harbouring fugitive techno-cyber-anarchist Raja Petra “Compulsive Liar” Kamaruddin whilst in London, running away from a criminal defamation charge.  Of course, he denied.

All these point towards Riong Kali’s failure as a Malaysian. And he still is very much so.

LGE ever complained about ‘entertainment’ outlets?

The recent mishap involving the girl in Batu Feringghi being ran over by a galloping horse whose operator grabbed nationwide attention, if not anger. More so, when Penang Police revealed this man was actually high on morphine and had previous criminal cases.

Beach boy on horse in Batu Ferringhi incident was high on drugs

New Straits Times
Thu, Jun 09, 2011

State police chief Datuk Ayub Yakub said yesterday a urine test administered on the 28-year-old revealed he had been using morphine.

Initial investigations also revealed the man, who is from Alor Star, had two previous convictions for burglary and drugs. He is being investigated for causing grievous hurt.

Ayub was speaking after visiting the girl, Arina Kirana Azrin, at the Penang Hospital paediatric ward.

Arina, who was on holiday in Penang with her parents and 12-year-old sister, was building sand castles with her sister when a horse ridden by the beach boy collided with her.

The rider did not stop after the collision, which left the kindergarten girl with bodily injuries. She is still warded at the hospital.

Meanwhile, a massive operation to seize horses kept by illegal operators of joy rides at the Batu Ferringhi beach has been drawn up by the Penang Island Municipal Council (MPPP) following Tuesday’s incident.

State Local Government and Traffic Management Committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow said the operators of the illegal horse-riding business in the tourism belt had been given written notices to remove the animals from Kampung Chettiar, a village located near Parkroyal Hotel.

The notices were first issued last month following an incident on April 30 when a tourist from Saudi Arabia fell off a horse and sustained minor injuries on Batu Ferringhi beach.

“The operators had been openly defying the ban on horse-riding along the beachfront, even after they had received orders in black and white to remove the horses from the village.

“The next step will be for the MPPP to seize the animals from the village as soon as possible,” he said yest e r d ay.

On quad bike riding that has also been banned, Chow said the operators were cooperative and that the authorities had not received complaints lately.

He said the council needed to engage operators of water sports, such as jet-skiing and parasailing again, following recent complaints that such activities were not carried out in demarcated zones. He said the state and local authorities had always maintained that the beach belonged to everyone, but if the situationworsened to a point that harsher measures needed to be taken, the operators would risk having their licences suspended. “These people had just been given licences to operate, as we wanted to regulate their activities. However, if they continue to violate regulations, then they will only tarnish their own reputation further and risk action being taken against them.”

-New Straits Times

In this case, it is the local authority (PBT) which failed to monitor all these ventures, even after accidents happened. Orders restraining such operation were conveniently unheeded as PBT paid little attention.

This got so many started thinking are these operators of illegal businesses, even on the pretext of ‘enriching the tourist spots’, got ‘indirect blessing’ from the decision makers and enforcement of the said PBT?

That is not the case for the various hawkers whose businesses were forcefully shut, especially in the Georgetown area. The DAP ADUN for Komtar Ng Wei Eik in charge woven their ‘stick’ high up as the personally supervise MPPP’s destruction and repossession of these hawkers’ properties, in sheer arrogance.

Then again, this sheer brute against small business operators is because they are Non Chinese. More accurately, they are Malays.  Then, the Political Secretary to Penang Chief Minister Ng lied through his teeth, to justify his brutal act against this nasi kandar outlet in his constituency.

Probably, the directive of ‘closing one eye’ is not exclusive for this PBT. It seems that there is a ‘blanket of approval’ for all the PBTs in the state to pay little or minimal attention to the much larger and lucrative ‘entertainment outlets’.

Then again, the much larger and networked business entities sprawling and believed to be thriving within the Penang economy post 12 general election has a different story all together. They are getting ‘preferential treatment’ for the Chinese Chauvinist DAP Penang State Government, all the way at the top level.

The ‘entertainment outlet’ that is being talked about here is not the regular cineplex or local neighbourhood pub. This is the sort which offer all sorts of vice related products and services such as prostitution, illegal gambling and drugs. Of course, the public at large suspect that the Lords of Underworld Vices are the ‘Master Franchisor’ if not the main shareholders (via third parties and shelf incorporated entities) and ‘parent holding’ companies of these vices related businesses.

The Federal Government agencies such as Police and Immigration have been conducting all sorts of operation to go after these ‘entertainment outlets’, over and over again.  Tirelessly, arrests were made and these vice-busting initiatives are even given media coverage. Then again, soon after all the GROs and operators were arrested they are in business again. Almost as usual.

The key success factor of curbing all these vices operated by the Lords of Underworld is ability to refrain their license and any permit or approval to conduct business. This is where the PBTs within Penang controlled DAP failed. This is also true in Chinese majority PBTs within Selangor such as Petaling Jaya, Subang, Puchong, Serdang and Klang, where the PBT councillors are determined by DAP.

Even PAS controlled Kedah Government ‘pandered’ to all these.

As the Chief Minister of Penang and Secretary General of Chinese Chauvinist party DAP, Lim Guan Eng paid very minimal attention on the fact that these raids did not manage to reduce the operations and all these ‘entertainment outlet’ activities. In fact, it is growing and the operators are thriving with new outlets spawned if all of the Chinese majority areas.

Even wonder why Lim Guan Eng is unequivocally silent on this?

Time to shed Chinese Chauvinism for patriotism

Penang CPO Deputy Commissioner of Police Dato’ Ayub Yaakob did the right thing. He asked the Government to promote for the rakyat to come forward and serve the nation and do their part in ‘Community Policing’.

Penang CPO to politicians: Don’t divide the people

Tuesday, June 07 @ 08:27:12 CDT

Community policing services in Penang must be open to all residents, regardless of their political affiliation, says the state police head.
Penang police chief Ayub Yaakob says politicians must stop dividing the people in the delivery of community policing services, which should be open to all regardless of political affiliation.

He said certain quarters were trying to undermine community policing by preventing members of political parties, other than their own, from joining the teams.

penang crime police lim guan eng event pc 260908 ayub yaakob“Everyone should be treated equally. In a residential area, there are all kinds of people, some from Umno and others from DAP,” Ayub told Malaysiakini.

“Residents should be encouraged to join these teams regardless of their membership of any political party, as the programme benefits everyone.”

Asked to identity the politicians concerned, he would only say: “Please write about this. It is an important matter.”

However, Ayub added, politicians were not the only ones dividing the people as “certain political parties” were doing so as well.

Several community policing teams have been set up, for example, in Bayan Baru and Paya Terubongg. Such initiatives are usually spearheaded by the state assembly representatives.

Ayub said he welcomed public support and participation in the move as this has attributed to a drop in the state’s crime index rate by 27.1 percent last year.

He advised politicians, as elected representatives, to treat all constituents equally.

‘No BN or Pakatan government’

“They stand or contest under their political banners during elections. (When) they win, they have to serve everyone equally in their constituency, not just members of their political parties” he said.

Ayub said his comments also applied to Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, who is also DAP secretary-general.

azlanWhen he is in office, Lim must act as the head of government for every citizen, and there should be no reference to a BN or Pakatan Rakyat government when referring to a particular project or situation.

“There is no BN or Pakatan government. There are only three (levels of) government: federal, state and local,” Ayub said.

“Please follow the constitution… there is no mention there of a BN or Pakatan government.”

CPO Dato’ Ayub is making a call exactly for the point of that any ruling party of the Federal Government or any of the State Governments must ensure that the community policing is across the board and not only promoted or at the extreme being isolated by certain quarters. Worse still, if political parties do that.

‘Community Policing’ is about communities working closely together with the Police Force for law enforcement programs.

There is no politics in community policing. It is security program to ensure that lives and properties are protected from people intending to do malice and break the law. Community policing is about keeping law and order and preserve the interests of the community in an orderly fashion. It is about ensuring respecting other people’s life and rights.

In Penang, the Police Force managed to bring down the crime rate significantly. For 2010, Penang Police managed to record 27% crime reduction and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng actually acknowledged this. This was achieved without employing much more resources. However, it could improved further with a tight co-operation for the Penang State Government. As the group of people who were given the mandate to rule, they should be actively involved in this effort between Police Force and communities.

It is time for DAP to shed its Chinese Chauvinism and promoting effort to ensure that more youths step forward to join the Police Force. It is time for DAP Leaders like Secretary General Lim Guan Eng to stand up and show their patriotism.

Previously, we challenged DAP to do their bit for the defense of the realm. Since they call for “Malaysian, Malaysia”, then they should prove their patriotism in promoting Chinese youths to step forward and offer themselves for any recruitment call of the Police Force, any of the services under Armed Forces and/or Maritime Agency.

After all since the Chinese make up 26% of Malaysians, then it is only fair that DAP as the known Chinese Chauvinist party ensure that 25% of all application into the Police Force and ATM recruitment drive are filled by Chinese youths.

Mat King Leather hatching up an ‘economic hitman’ sabotage?

So Anwar “Mat King Leather” Ibrahim was in Hong Kong. That is why as the Opposition Leader and de facto Head of the Unholy-marriage-of-(in)convenience-between-backstabbing-strange-bedfellow, he wasn’t around for the 57th PAS Annual Mukhtamar, of which his ‘Erdogan’ protege’s managed to capture strategic seats across the board at the leadership level.

Never mind the fact PAS passed a motion to demonise the ‘Sex-video-gate scandal’ as a “Blatant slander with ill intent motive by UMNO/BN”. That is not withstanding the fact that the delegates defied the Islamic cardinal principle of upholding justice of which should be in place and PAS demanded a thorough investigation to absolve the Opposition Leader’s nameand instead.

So why was he in Hong Kong?

Mat King Leather's tweet on his 'meeting in Hong Kong'

He was meeting a stream of businessmen and capital market people to discuss. The unspinners team checked to only observe there was no scheduled meeting organised as part of the conference. Probably it is a private discussion, by selected business people.

Is Anwar hatching something up with these ‘selected individuals’ in Hong Kong?

It is highly probable. Anwar was thought to be working with the ‘solution provider’ when the currency was attacked in 1997-8 Asian Financial Crisis and then as the Finance Minister, he was very bent on having the ‘IMF solution’ which could leave the nation’s economy at the mercy of the Americans.

It was the ‘Re-colonialisation Grand Plan’ of the West, which was the Neo Con Jews’s agenda within the corridors of power in Washington D.C. and capital market puppet masters of Wall Street and The City. Mat King Leather was a tool of that agenda. Much like Thaksin Shinawatra of Thailand, Dr. B. J. Habibie of Indonesia and Erap Estrada of the Philippines.

With God’s grace, we were spared.

Now, the Malaysian economy is facing another front of global economic storm. The Western financial near melt down of 2008-9 has not fully recovered. With crude oil prices now in excess of USD 100 per barrel, cost of production across the board at global level is already up and going on a galloping trend. Erratic weather like the current really bad dry spell in China and bad harvest elsewhere will translate to higher food prices. High unresolved unemployment in many countries which include 60% of Malaysia’s exporting market probably would reduce the demand.

John Perkin's description of a CIA initiative to do economic sabotage

These are all the ingredients of an opportunity of ‘An Economic Hitman’, almost exactly like how John Perkins described in his best selling hard cover.

One of Prime Minster Dato’ Sri Mohd. Najib Tun Abdul Razak’s prickly issue in juggling the complex economy, attempting to strike a balance for rakyat’s basic needs and a toll on Federal Government’s spending, is subsidy. To sustain for more monies made available for development purposes is that subsidy on commodities must be reduced. It cannot be abrupt but the worrying pattern made it inevitable to not take away.

Probably the game is now for Anwar to be in Hong Kong and do a deal with the commodities dealers. Recently, Federal Government had risen the retail price of sugar. It is still not enough. Sugar is a commodity where Malaysia is fully reliant on import and the control of the import prices are in the hands of the commodity cartels.

If the wholesale import price of sugar is high, Federal Government would be left with limited choices but to increase the retail price in the market. As per now, sugar has already been subsidised at RM 1.00 per kg.  Since now is exactly 8 weeks before Ramadhan and effectively 12 weeks before Syawal where the demand of sugar would sky rocket, as 60% of Malaysians consume the most sugar per capita in these two months.

The inevitable increase of retail sugar price would not only left the Federal Government very unpopular, they would also be angry.

Of course, there are other commodity as well. As in coal. Most of  TNB’s power generation facility fueled by coal is dependent on the solid carbon.

High coal price hampers TNB

Behind the news by Tee Lin Say

Share price and foreign shareholdings of TNB go down as its fuel cost goes up

HIGH coal prices have been working againstTenaga Nasional Bhd, and this has clearly been seen in its decreasing share price.

Uncertainties in TNB‘s tariff mechanism has also seen foreign shareholding gradually decrease from a two-year peak of 12.7% in September 2010 to 10.4% in January 2011.

With coal making up some 50% of TNB’s fuel cost, even a small increase in the market price of coal greatly affects its bottomline.

As it is, the supply of coal has already been tight. This problem was exacerbated with the flooding in Queensland, Australia.

Australia is the world’s largest supplier of coal, and thus, the floods caused coal prices to spike as fears of tight supply escalated.

To make matters worst, the earthquake and tsunami tragedy hit Japan, and caused panic when its nuclear power plant threatened to emit radiation.

There are now expectations for the Japanese to reduce its nuclear dependency and renew its purchases of coal for its thermal plants. This has caused coal to resume its upward trend.

Coal prices have risen by 8% from last month to US$130 per tonne currently – 53% above the US$85 per tonne incorporated into TNB’s current tariff structure.

Currently, most of TNB’s coal supply is purchased under term contracts with prices being negotiated annually based on current rates.

“A US$10 increase in coal prices will set TNB’s net profit back by RM350mil to RM400mil. That’s very significant,” said a power analyst.

AmResearch analyst Alex Goh maintains his financial year (FY) 2011 and FY12 coal cost assumption of US$100 per tonne, pending the developments in TNB’s tariff review, scheduled bi-annually in July-August this year.

Based on current coal prices and the current US dollar to ringgit exchange rate, the AmResearch analyst is estimating that TNB’s FY11 to FY13 net profits could drop by 25% to 26%.

“We estimate that coal handling costs constitute about 0.6% of TNB’s operating expenses given that coal makes up 50% of TNB’s fuel cost; fuel costs, in turn, account for around 21% of operating expenses and coal handling costs are around 5% of coal cost,” said an analyst fromCIMB Research.

Meanwhile, TNB’s three-year coal transportation contract with Maybulk will expire in mid-2011 and the rate is likely to be revised down significantly from the current high rate of US$60,000 to US$90,000 per day.

Thus, TNB will benefit from lower handling and freight rates for its coal.

“However, we believe that this will be more than offset by the increase in coal price arising from extra demand from Japan for fossil fuels to compensate for the loss of nuclear power generation capacity. The national utility company has only managed to lock in 18% of the 18.1 million tonnes of coal that it expects to procure in FY11,” said the CIMB analyst.

ECM Libra research head Bernard Ching notes that power demand has been rising steadily from a low base in 2009. Power demand has increased 8.9% from 83,353 GWh in 2009 to 90,771 GWh in 2010.

“Going forward, power demand growth will be driven by a potential rebound in Malaysia’s Industrial Production Index (IPI), which in turn is driven by a steady recovery in the developed economies as well as successful implementation of projects under the government’s Economic Transformation Programme,” he said.

Ching added that since the industrial sector accounted for the biggest source (44.3% or 40,186GWh) of electricity demand in 2010, any rebound in industrial production would in turn boost industrial electricity production, which would in turn positively impact overall power demand.

Although the recent rise in coal prices will dampen the near term prospects of TNB, this will support its argument for a tariff hike which is likely to be implemented after the general election, according to Ching.

“Near term share price weakness presents an opportunity for accumulation as valuation is undemanding with financial year ending Aug 2011 price earnings at 12 times.

The expectations of a tariff hike is premised on the Government’s move to reduce subsidies to keep its budget deficit in check.

With the general election speculated to happen this year, it would appear that hopes for a tariff hike is diminishing.

A tariff hike may help the Government reduce subsidy expenses but it can also lead to inflationary concerns.

TNB is now paying a subsidised gas price of RM10.70 per million British thermal units (mmbtu), which is lower than the market price of about RM12 per mmbtu.

Last week, TNB acquired 22.1% of port operator Integrax for RM106.5mil.

TNB has been looking into ways to reduce fuel costs amid the coal price surge.

TNB is dependent on coal from Indonesia. The cartels which controlled the pits and wholesale are those who are sympathetic to Anwar. Most of the pits in Kalimantan are thought to be under indirect control by Nahdatul Ulama faction. They are known to be alligned to the founder of Malaysian Reformasi.

If this is networking is turns out to be true, then Anwar “Mat King Leather” Ibrahim has now again resorted to economic sabotage, for this sordid attempt to realise power. May we remind our readers that economic saboteurs are the sort of bad fellows that the Internal Security Act is designed for.

PAS condemns use of sex video for slander

The ulama said the tactic of using video and new media as channels to spread slander in the interest of politics signified the fall of a civilisation.

“It is a sin to slander, as it involves the dignity and integrity of an individual,” said Ulama represnetative Fadhil Mohd Noor when tabling the motion atthe 57th PAS Muktamar on Sunday.

The ulama were apparently referring to a sex video implicating Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

On March 21, trio Datuk T comprising businessman Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah, former Malacca chief minister Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik, and former Perkasa treasurer-general Datuk Shuib Lazim revealed the existence of a sex video showing a man resembling Anwar having sex with a woman believed to be a prostitute.

Anwar lodged a police report claiming he was not the man in the video.

The Ulama condemned the Barisan Nasional government for allowing the sex video to be aired on television and excerpts published in the print media.

“(We) condemn the silent stance taken by the official government ulama,” he said.

The sex video was among six-point motion tabled and passed during the Muktamar.

05/06/2011 6:33pm

Ulama PAS pakai ajaran apa sebenarnya?

‘Islamist’ party do away with Ulama’

In an unexpected turn, delegates at this year’s PAS annual assembly in sundry threw out clergies and instead put ‘Young Turks’ in place of them. This is unprecedented since the PAS was formed by Ulamas 60 years ago, who were frustrated with UMNO middle path and moderate approach.

For the highly strategic Deputy President post, Mohamad Sabu beat incumbent Nasharuddin Mat Isa and new comer Tuan Ibrahim. Both losers represented the Ulama’ faction.

For the Vice President seats, Salahuddin Ayub and Husam Musa retained their seats. Obviously, the ‘Erdogans’ already taking control of the Islamists party. Majority of Excos are now ‘Erdogan’ and those seen to be liberal and ever willing to compromise party’s traditions, values and even Islamist philosophy for the sake of politics.

PAS is slowly shedding it’s ‘party of ulama’ image. PAS also want to be ‘politically viable’ for the urban and professional Malays. This vote also reflects PAS’s effort to be ‘acceptable’ to the Non Malays.

Change of policies is expected. PAS President Dato Abdul Hadi Awang on Friday already announced that they are ‘dropping in intention to create an Islamic State’ for Pakatan-Rakyat savvy ‘Welfare State’. These ‘Erdogans’ are more friendly to liberal policies which is seem as pandering to DAP Chinese-Chauvinism and pro-West agenda.

What Marang MP Hadi failed to explain is that by carrying the ‘Islamist State’, the ‘welfare’ bit would naturally be encompassed in the spirit of the system. Islam advocates communalism more than individualism. What baffling is that PAS via their delegates pandered into DAP Chairman Karpal Singh’s “Over my dead body!” response to an unrealised ‘Islamic State’ objective.

Votes generated by PAS enabled Pakatatan Rakyat partners of unholy-marriage-of-(in)convenience-between-backstabbing-strange-bedfellows during the 12 General Election proven beneficial to DAP and especially PKR. PKR managed to amass 970,000 extra votes as compared to 11GE which translated to an increase of 200%. Will the lifeline of PKR be extended after this, considering that PKR has been ‘disintegrating systematically’ with strategic personalities like Zahrain Hashim, Sallehuddin Hashim, Zulkifli Nordin and financier John Soh already exited.

The landscape of PAS’s mainstay support from the Malay heartland is expected to shift as well. So many grassroots are already unhappy with issues like ‘Kalimah Allah’ and the stance on Opposition Leader Anwar “Mat King Leather” Ibrahim’s personal problems such as the ongoing sodomy case on trial now and recently the ‘Datuk T’ sex-video scandals. In short, they expect PAS to remain conservative with the explicit struggle for an ‘Islamic State’ being uncompromised.

Yesterday’s voting is a new dawn for PAS, either as an evolving Islamist party which eventually open enough to work with nationslist party UMNO or a strategic tool for DAP and PKR.

Selangor Pakatan Rakyat betrayed operators for ‘war-chest’ building

Selangor Pakatan Rakyat led State Government is proven that they are able to victimise the rakyat, in favour of a State GLC. The agenda of building an ‘election war-chest’ has now gone into fifth gear. This is at the expense of the nursery operators  along Sungai Buloh who are hoping to get temporary occupancy lease (TOL). Naturally, these entrepreneurs also felt betrayed.

The Star exclusive:

Nursery operators feel betrayed by handover of plots to Yayasan Selangor

Bleak future: Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Landscaping and Nursery Operators Association president Lee Chee Hoong (centre) having a discussion with nursery operators Mohd Noor Abdullah (left) and K.C. Low.

PETALING JAYA: Nursery operators in Sungai Buloh feel they have been betrayed by the Selangor Government.

Their applications over the years to obtain temporary occupation licences (TOLs) for their plots have been rejected.

On May 25, the 50 nursery operators were told instead that the land had been given to state-owned Yayasan Selangor.

Three years ago, the operators were advised by their elected representatives to apply for TOLs, said Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Landscaping and Nursery Operators Association president Lee Chee Hoong.

The Selangor Agriculture Development Corporation (PKPS) held the TOL of the 72 plots involved and progressively collected the monthly rental of the plots between RM 400 to 800 each. The collected RM 380,000.00 per annum from the operators but only paid RM 15,000.00 to the land office. The difference is expected to be pocketed into some

An operator Mohd. Nor said, “It seems that these state government agencies are doing a business here by collecting rental through TOLs”.

Another operator V Thomas described that  Selangor State Government is “Meng-Ali Baba-kan Ekonomi Selangor” where else they should be “Meng-rakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor“. In short, they have been stood up.

Nursery misery: Reps take state to task

PETALING JAYA: Selangor MCA blasted the state government over its decision to award the Temporary Occupation Licences (TOLs) for Sungai Buloh nurseries to a state-owned entity.

Its secretary Wong Koon Mun said he was not surprised that the state government had taken back the TOLs.

“It is not new, the state government has been taking back TOLs from people in rural areas, especially in Hulu Selangor, where villagers have been living for the past 20 to 50 years.

“It is certainly not a government for the people,” said the Kuala Kubu Baru assemblyman.

Betraying and victimising these entrepreneurs is very low. They were deceived to think that Pakatan Rakyat would honour their hardwork and entrepreneurism, which is contributing to the Selangor economy. This wasn’t the first time they did this. In Kampung Keradang, Hulu Selangor, Selangor Pakatan Rakyat Government evicted these TOL dwellers in an return, intended to rent out these parcels for money.

Buildings saved after Hulu Selangor MP intervenes

A STANDOFF occurred during a joint operation to demolish 36 structures, a surau and community hall in Kampung Sungai Kerandang, Kuala Kubu Baru, which have been built on the Bukit Tarek forest reserve.

About 250 officers from the Selangor State Forestry Department, the police, Hulu Selangor District Council and Hulu Selangor Land Office were involved in the operation.

More than 100 villagers gathered at the entrance of the village holding banners, posters refusing entry to the enforcement officers.

Last-minute save: Kamalanathan (right) listening to Wong’s instructions to Mohd Yussainy on the phone.

Kampung Sungai Kerandang village head Kassani Kameran, 76, said it was cruel to demolish their homes where they had been staying for more than 20 years.

“Our children and even granchildren are born here and we have no place to go,” Kassani said.

Hulu Selangor MP P. Kamalanathan, who spoke on behalf of the villagers, told the Selangor Forestry Department assistant director (operations and enforcement) Mohd Yussainy Md Yusop to discuss the matter further and find an amicable solution.

In need of help: The villagers with Kamalanathan holding banners and posters.

Yussainy called State tourism, consumer affairs and environment committee chairman Elizabeth Wong, who contacted Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim to clarify the situation.

Wong then called and told Kamalanathan that only the crops needed to be cleared and not the structures.

The villagers were given three notices” – MOHD YUSSAINY MD YUSOP

Kamalanathan then thanked Wong and Yussainy for being understanding and bringing the situation under control.

On Monday, Yussainy received instructions from the state to demolish structures and clear the crops in Kampung Sungai Kerandang, which is in the forest reserve.

Yussainy said the team were suppose to demolish 799 lots on 354ha in the forest reserve.

“The villagers were given three notices — on Oct 27 in 2009, Aug 3 last year and March 31 this year — to vacate the land. However, these villagers have refused to move.

“We know that out of the 200 families, only six originated here.

“The rest are outsiders and use this plot of land for farming,’’ he said.

The fact that Selangor Pakatan Rakyat saw the opportunity and is out systematically to victimise the rakyat of Selangor is really disguting. This is an example on the first step to ‘economic oppression’ for Selangorians. The introduction of new direct or indirect taxes would be a political suicide for them. Hence, they resort of ‘oppressing the entrepreneurs’. This is not so obvious and whenever media gets a hold of it after ‘investigative journalism’, then only it is brought upon in the right perspective.

This is not the first time scandals about Pakatan Rakyat Selangor controlled state government have been brought out in the open.  The obvious was the sale-of-sand fiasco involving Kuala Semesta Sdn. Bhd., where a brother of Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim was believed to be involved. Long time operators of sand-concessionaires and contractors are really affected by the monopoly that Pakatan Rakyat Selangor state government imposing upon them.

Explain price hike of sand, Selangor government told

On October 6, 2008, in In The News

The Selangor government should explain why the price of sand had gone up drastically since Pakatan Rakyat took over, Selangor MCA Youth said. The movement’s chief Dr Kow Cheong Wei said the price of sand had gone up from RM17 and RM19 per tonne previously to between RM27 and RM29 per tonne.

“The people will not benefit as the rise in sand prices slows projects and increases property prices in the state,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

Dr Kow said Selangor was one of the states with the highest number of development projects.

The industry was vital in maintaining the state’s economy as many support industries depended on it, he said.

Dr Kow said the youth wing started looking at the problem after receiving numerous complaints about escalating sand prices from developers and sub-contractors.

He said the state youth wing held several meetings with developers and their sub-contractors as well as hardware stores and lorry transport companies over the last two weeks to discuss the sand supply issue.

Lorry operators claimed they have to increase prices as the long queues at the sand mines now limit them to only about three trips a day instead of the usual four to five, and this has affected their profits, he said.

– The Star –

Then all the hanky-panky business deals and corrupt practices within Selangor GLC Sate Economic Development Corporation PKNS and fiascoes in Yayasan Selangor, which are now under active investigation of MACC. Yayasan Selangor was once a treasure chest for Selangor, has now experiencing deficit in their coffers.

When DAP political aide Teoh Beng Hock was found dead outside MACC almost two years ago, the investigation unveiled a lot of skeletons-in-the-closet. DAP leaders in Selangor Exco namely Ean Yong Hian Wah and suspiciously involving Ronnie Liu, in various under world related business dealings.

The Pakatan Rakyat manifesto-by-manipulation-and-deception ‘Buku Jingga’ is believed to be funded by Selangor state government agencies. It is obvious a tool of by ‘An Economic Hitman’.

Selangor being the wealthiest state in the Federation is very much important for Pakatan Rakyat politics and the capture of the state is crucial for financing their political survival. More over recently, there have been huge scandals within PKR. The exodus of members, which include  personalities with strategic importance such as Dato’ S. Nalla Karupan, Dato’ Sallehuddin Hashim, Dato’ Seri Zahrain Hashim, Dato’ Zaid Ibrahim and one-time-Chief-Financier of Anwar “Mat King Leather” Ibrahim, John Soh Chee Wen, have taken a serious toll on their financial position.

It is obvious that PKR needed to substantiate these deficiencies with another source and what better option as compared to the coffers of the Selangor institutions.

The gross indecency ability of Pakatan Rakyat to plunder and pillage any treasure chests in the Selangor state is unbelievable. Almost two years ago, MB Selangor Khalid tried to use monies from Baitulmal for “Development purposes”. That irked HRH Sultan of Selangor. Monies accumulated in Baitulmal from alms and tithe are meant for social subsistence purposes, as stipulated by Al Quran.

It is obvious that Pakatan Rakyat leaders are building the ‘election war chest’, separately and in sundry. They are milking any avenue within the controls of the Selangor State Government, for their political funds purpose. Pakatan Rakyat promised the ‘stars and the moon’ the the pre PRU 12 campaign because they never thought that they could win. Now that they have won, its time to reap all the ‘fruits of their political success’.

When BN Menteri Besar Dr Khir Toyo was forced to vacate his seat post 12th general election for losing Selangor to Pakatan Rakyat, there were an accumulated sum of RM 1.7 billion from various Selangor State Governement agencies and GLCs sources. It cannot be ascertained how much is still left.

This is at the gross and indecent expense and victimisation, if not ‘economic oppression’, on the rakyat of Selangor.

Pakatan Rakyat building election war chest?

Pakatan Rakyat via state governments under their control is believed to be building their election war chests, in anticipation of the upcoming general election expected within less in the year.

Sources within is said an expose in the mainstream media is comin gup very soon. This warchest building is particularly prevalent especially after BN’s series of winnings in various by-elections, Sarawak state election and most recent, UMNO’s announcement of general election simulation dry run in July.

Writing is on the wall. Watch this space for updates.

Silat Tikam Belakang: Erdogan Al-Fulusi

Husam bersama Murshidul Am PAS Nik Aziz Nik Mat

(i) Saifuddin Nasution (sebelum bertanding PRU12 dan berjaya menjadi MP Machang, kini Setiausaha Agung PKR).

(ii) Abdul Razak Ghani (sekarang Pengurus Besar PMBK Sawit).

(iv) Mohd Khir Zahri Abdul Ghani (kini Pengarah Tabung Amanah Tok Kenali, mengurus kerja-kerja politik Husam termasuk kebajikan leftenan-leftenan Husam).

Apakah sebenarnya ujud ‘kroni-kroni Husam’?

(i) Haji Hashim Omar

(ii) Senator Ahmad Rusli Ibrahim

(iii) Haji Ramli Abu Bakar

Halang ‘Erdogan’ bawa agenda Mat King Leather

Lim Kit Siang, Nizar "Brother Yong" Jamaluddin & Anwar "Mat King Leather" Ibrahim

PETALING JAYA: Speculation is rife during the PAS muktamar(conference) this week that the Erdogan faction could be wiped out as resistance by the grassroots and the old guards’ is said to be brewing into a “mini tsunami”.

The old guards are sceptical of the Erdogans’ issue-based approach to aggressively gain political mileage as they have always believed in gaining public confidence for the long-term survival of PAS.

The central party elections on Friday will see two Erdogans (former Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin and Kelantan executive councillor Datuk Husam Musa), two ulama (PAS information chief Idris Ahmad and Kelantan executive councillor Datuk Amar Abdullah), and two incumbents (Datuk Mahfuz Omar and Salahuddin Ayub) contesting the three vice-president posts.

Of the 53 candidates vying for the 18 central committee posts, 15 are from the Erdogan faction while 14 are from the ulama faction.

Among the Erdogans contesting the central committee posts are elected representatives Dr Dzulkefly AhmadDr Mohd Hatta Ramli, Khalid Abdul Samad, Dr Halimah AliDatuk Kamarudin JaffarDr Lo’Lo Mohd Ghazali, Firdaus Abdullah, Muhammad Husain, Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa, Sa’ari Sungib, and Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud.

Non-elected representative Erdogans in the running for the central committee posts are Hanipa Maidin, Datuk Dr Mahfodz Mohamed, Anuar Tahir and Aiman Athirah Al-Jundi.

PAS ulama chief Datuk Harun Taib said the party had survived since its inception because the ulama and the professionals had always complemented each other.

“The ulama do not feel threatened at all by the professional group.

“But the Erdogans appear to be aggressive and they may not have the capability to take the party forward because they seem to harp on issues to gain support.

“We cannot sustain support based on issues, as it does not guarantee sustainable victory during a general election.

“PAS has always focused on gaining public confidence and acceptance of the multiracial society as it is crucial for the long-term survival of the party,” he said, stressing that he did not know the entire Erdogan “clan” in the party.

Karikatur PAS diliwat DAP
