Participation in Bersih not good move, Anifah tells foreign diplomats

By MERGAWATI ZULFAKAR

KUALA LUMPUR: The involvement of foreign diplomats based here in the Bersih 3.0 in April has incurred the displeasure of Wisma Putra.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman said he had received reports of the involvement and participation of several diplomats at the rally on April 28.

“Whether such involvement or participation is truly for information gathering or otherwise, it is definitely not a good move,” Anifah said during a luncheon with Asean ambassadors here.

Anifah did not mention the countries involved.

He reminded the diplomats to be always mindful of the sensitivities of governments in this region in order to maintain good relations.

Isu keselamatan negara perlu tiada kompromi.

  1. Careful, don’t over criticize Singapore. Johore is still begging Singaporean money.

    • Oh yeah, with that island sinking 2 inches annually, the kiasus will be begging for anchorship from Johore. One Malaysian minister said: ‘It will not be long before Lee Kuan Yew crawls back (to Malaysia).’

      • Yeah, what a stupid comment by the Ckn fellow. Callous and careless with his words.

He has no clue about relations between countries – political, diplomatic or even economic and business. No idea of the areas of Singapore’s dependence on Malaysia.

Desalination of sea water to make drinking water? Only if you have vast oil reserves, because the energy costs are incredibly huge. Singapore has minyak gamat? Langkawi has.

    • All embassies have foreign staff (mostly with diplomatic status) and local staff. The Embassy must not encourage even the local staff to participate in public demos as the local public can confuse them with the diplomatic staff of the Embassy concerned and give the Embassy a bad name, and it may lead to a souring of relations with the host country. Those wanting to maintain good relations stringently observe this.

The diplomats also cannot participate in demos as it’s not “consistent with their diplomatic status” and can be declared “persona non grata” i.e no longer acceptable and chucked out of the host country. Like sometimes done to Intelligence Officers, who are often wrongly called spies – they use agents to do work for them and those agents are spies, not the Intelligence Officers. Read the books of the James Bond 007 kind and you’ll know these.

But kicking out such diplomats has been, as normal in diplomatic relations between countries, on “reciprocal basis”. Tit for tat. You do I do. Which, presumably, Anwar also does with the “jambu” boys, but in role-reversal ways!

So, the choice is: hit out in the mass media as a kind of warning, like our Foreign Minister has done; or, if there is concrete evidence, send a protest note in the usual manner; or call their Ambassador and personally hand over a protest note. 1-2 further steps including declaring the diplomats persona non grata, which may even lead to recalling Ambassadors, and a break in diplomatic relations.

But if Singapore Embassy staff did attend, it may be unwitting local staff, or overzealous diplomatic staff stupidly attending the demo out of personal interest. If it was their Intelligence Officer(s) attending the demo to gather information, they must be so damned stupid as to make James Bond sneer at them! (I’ve been watching re-runs of James Bond films lately).

    • Johore is not begging for Singapore money. They are providing opportunities to Dingapore to participate in Iskandar Devt. Without Johore and Malaysia, where would Singapore be, except crouching in its tiny little spaceship. Even its reclamed land were made from earth and rocks from Malaysia and Indonesia. By extension, can we say Singapore ‘belongs’ to Malaysia and Indonesia? Because it is made from territorial earths of these 2 countries.

    • As a far as I am concern. our dignity and sovreignity is more important than the Sing$$$… so what…I would rather have no Sing$$$ than have them dictate our country’s direction. There are other sources of fund… the rich Islamic economies, for a start and the recent warming f ties between UK and Malaysia….

So if you thing Sing$$$ is king, please you, personally and individually lick the Sing asshole….the rest of us to not wish to be beholden to the little red dot south of the peninsula….

Who would singapork want to park their money here???? Go elsewhere lah…afterall they are the global people.. You see, no matter what the singaporeans say about Malaysia, this is still their country of preference with all the dapsters fanning racial harmony..and the people from that little dot south of the border feel more secure….if at all they feel unsafe and threatened, please go elsewhere…so why should we worry?????

Please have a thought about us go abegging…silly billy….

  2. YEAH DONT OVER CRITICIZE SINGAPORE…..JOHORE IS STILL GETTING WATER SUPPLY FROM SINGAPORE HA….HA…HA…AND NOT FORGETTING JOHOREANS FILLING THEIR PETROL IN SINGAPORE.FOR CHEAPER PRICE ..HE..HE..HE…

  3. Dear ray,you said ‘it will not be long before Lee Kuan Yew crawls back to Maaysia.WOW! What a fantastic news, where do you get the source of your imfomation.

Singapore foreign reserve US200 billion.GIS assets their equiveent to our Khazanah around US350 billion.our Khazanah total
    assets only us50 billion.

Singapore are holding around US100billion gold nd we have
    Zero.

I just wonder why Lee Kn Yew need to crawls back to Malayia.

    • And where do you get the source of your information, dear Hamid? Pls give reliable and verifiable source(s). Hope not Wikipedia kind of sources.

I’d venture an opinion before ray makes a response – LKY needs to crawl back because not enough space in Singapore. Not enough sand also to “make land” from the sea. Malaysia stopped supplies and wonder if Indonesia won’t do the same in future. But ray may have more solid arguments than mine.

    • Also water. Tun Dol’s kind of generosity to Singapore may not come about again. So LKY will crawl back to Malaysia, dry in the mouth, blistering lips and 3/4 dead with exhaustion and thirst, managing to feebly cry out, “Water, water … my kingdom for water ..” At that time he’ll gladly give Singapore away for water.

I know some fellas are murmuring, “You wish!”. I not only wish, I’ll pray he’ll crawl back pleading for our goodwill. Then we’ll tell him to chuck his so-called diplomats who attended Bersih 3.0 into the sea.

Nasty tot, eh? Yes, for nasty acts by his diplomatic goons.

  4. with kerismuddin as the home minister….what would u expect …bro.?

    drputera

  5. Gemas Malaysia Land Force Training Base is nice place to train future Pork Spring cadres and militias….

  7. Under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic and Consular Relations 1961 and 1963, foreign diplomats cannot interfere in the internal affairs of their host countries. If they do violate this provision, they should be persona non grata. Some countries would have done that. Malaysia appears to be too lenient in this instance. Not surprisr if they will do it again in future.

    • Singapore High Comm denied the three were ‘involved’ in BERSIH 3.0
However, they were on the ground, ‘observing’
Since BERSIH 3.0 has been putlawsed by a injunction applied by he Police
and this injection which hv been made widely known!
The three diplomats who purportedly ‘observing’ are actually breaking curfew laws!

IN short, these three criminals hv seen in the crime scene, doing the very criminal activity that the injunction was obtained by the police to stop!

Foreign diplomats arrested for spying > This is ery embarrassing.

      • Yup, even if they claim the those diplomats went there in their personal capacity, well it doesnt exclude the fact that they are in Malaysia because they are foreign diplomats. Guess, exercising discretion and be more sensitive concerning their capacity would have been a better choice than to be in the vicinity of a political demonstration.

      • Those uktra kiasu 3rd class diplomats, what do they know? No finesse, no training, no perception of decency in international relations. They don’t have the likes of INTAN Training Centre that Malaysia has.

  9. Dear haba.
Singaporean will crawls back to you because of water and sand.I think you still live under the cave?.Singapore had build the state of the are salinaion plant. They learn from Saudi and Qatar. Now they can pump unlimited sea water to make fresh water. They told Malaysia which was expired in 2011.The other water agreement which will expire in 2066,they just wait.
As with the sand, they have unlimited supply from Deing Malek who supplied them daily? No body can stop Deing Malek because he in JV with top people in Johore. You just o ro Telok Rumania jetty and see by yourself.

Singapore is like Isreal. They know how to survive.Politically they are vary stabil,The govertment is in total control of opposition. Not like Najib who tried to please everybody,at thebend he loose everything.

    • Tuan Biggie,

Aku bangga jadi anak Melayu. Aku bangga bangsa aku berbudaya tinggi; menghormati tetamu, mementingkan jiran & menjaga hati rakan taulan.

Apa haram jadah kita tunggu lagi???

Apakah hari tu Polis mengeluorkan berpuluh nama & muka mereka yg sangat dikehendaki utk BERSIH 3.0, sudah diburu & didakwa kesemuanya?

Kita ni ulangi kesilapan kita, acap kali. Padan la ‘musuh’ seperti diplomat Singapura sampai terang terangan mendalangi BERSIH 3.0!

    • Dear Hamid,

No, I don’t “live under the cave” but maybe “near Batu Caves” in Selangor, haha.

It’s becoming clearer you are anti-Establishment and your views about FEDA and FGVH in the previous post may be Opposition-tainted. Yours was a minority view but you are at liberty to stick to it.

I know there has been talk about “high-up” Johor sand going to Singapore but even if I were to go to Telok Ramunia jetty, I wonder if I’ll get concrete evidence – maybe 1-2 workers saying the barges are going to Singapore. That’ll be only a little more credible than saying the sand is being sent to Saudi Arabia.

I need to know your sources of information and their credibility to believe that Singapore can turn sea water into potable water at manageable costs. Saudi and Qatar have a lot of oil for use in the desalination process, my friend, and Singapore has only minyak cap kapak which may not be produced anymore anyway.

But I agree with you that DS Najib has been trying to please everybody, but not losing everything. I’ve been observing the habit of “cakap lepas” that seems to be the characteristic of anti-Establishment or Opposition-minded people. “Lose everything”?

  10. Dear haba.
I am not anti establishment.I am having an inderpendent mind.If opposition is not correct i will hentam.

Salination plant. You just go to Sand casino hotel.right bihind it you can see the salination plant.alredy operating far the last three years. They are also turning sewage water,(the urine and shit) into fresh drinking water.

As for the export of sand to Singapore,if you go to Teluk Rumania jetty, you will see hundred of lorry carrying sand to the burges to Singapore. If you ask the manager at the site he will say this is silica and not sand.I reported the matter to MACC.after one month the officer told me he cannot investigate because it belong to vary vary top people in the state.
As for the sand from the sea, daily you will notice at least 30 to 40 burges carring sand to Danga Bay.Out of 40 burges 30 will stop in singapore. And only 10 reach Danga Bay.

If Najib is smart he should legalise sand export to Singapore and everybody can make money instead of only one party. There are pleanty of and in the sea.I remembar when Lee Kuan Yew visit sultan of Pahang in his Palace. They talk about the flood in Pahang.Lee told the Sultan, the flood cause by the excessive of sand bloking the Sungai Pahang.Sultan agree with him.He said why dont you dreg the sand from the river and sell it to Singapore. You will make more money.?

    • Dear Hamid,

Good that you think you are independent minded and will hentam the Opposition as well.

On the “salination plant behind the Sand casino hotel” in Singapore, isn’t that the water purification plant that purifies water from sewers and rivers, and is not the “desalination” of salt water from the sea? London etc have been doing that for ages, purifying water from sewers and rivers including the River Thames. My English friend long ago said he’d never drink tap water from the hotel rooms or even his house because of the shit and urine connotation.

But that “salination” is not “desalination” of salt water. Desalination is a process that requires a lot of energy and is very expensive, even in the Middle East where oil is aplenty, though some can afford it. Kuwait does it because they have an Aluminium Smelting plant that also requires tremendous energy – lot of oil. They desalinate sea water for the needs of the population as a synergistic process of the aluminium smelting. Even so, Saudi Arabia (having the largest oil reserves?) hotels still put notices in the toilets asking to make sure you turn off the taps after use as water is more expensive than oil there.

And there’s a limit to the river water, sewers, urine and shit that they can take. Water in the lower reaches of the rivers have high salinity that requires the desalination process.

Also good that you have spoken to the MACC about the Johor sand. Have you tried the Police? I know it’s easier said than done. But if you have the evidence and if the evidence is soild, why not?

Regarding Lee Kuan Yew’s suggestion to Sultan Pahang, I want to suggest to Kuan Yew that he uses the highly imbalanced population ratio to create more land in Singapore by … whatever. I’ll tell him when I catch up with him the next time he drops in Malaysia, haha.

  11. Come on Malaysia Ah Beng you been helping another Ah Beng across causeway!!

    1. Malaysia Gov. subsidies petrol and diesel to fishermen to reduce fish price. However, without realize our fishermen in Pantai Remis, Kuala Sepetang, Penang, Kuala Kedah and Sg Besar sold their catch to Singapore. In directly we help to subsidies Singapore citizen.

    2. Look at Cameron Highland farmers, they illegally explore lands and sell their crop to Singapore. We need to import our vegetables from Medan.

    3. We build North South Highway, every week Singaporean enjoy drive big motorbike for FREE!

    • Well done, ray. This is the kind of comments that will make people believe in what are said. Complete with sources of information/ links.

When, for example, the source is Reuters, people would not hesitate to believe what is being said. Reuters is the British news agency that has existed even before World War II and usually have their information properly verified before being published. They have offices all over the world and well trained and experienced reporting and editing staff.

Some people say there may even be Intelligence Officers operating within that organization. Indeed, intelligence can be both overt as well as covert. Where information is intended for the public domain, it becomes overt intelligence. Sometimes governments may prepare “information releases” but ask news agencies not to publish or “embargo” them until a selected date and time (ask the Jabatan Penerangan or Bernama about these) and such information may be covert information for the time being, or, if the government decides not to release, it becomes classified information or intelligence. And Intelligence Officers using the “cover” of news reporters or correspondents may seek out information that will never be published, and such information becomes hard intelligence that help governments formulate policies or make decisions. Read stories about “war correspondents” and Japanese “news photographers” photographing bridges etc before the Japs landed in Kelantan in World War II. .

So, reliable, well-sourced information make people believe whatever is being said and whatever opinions expressed. Hamid has said he is independent-minded and not anti-Establishment. I think it’s more likely that people will believe what he says and the opinions he expresses if he provides the sources and links to the relevant aspects of his statements, as I notice has been asked.
