Prime Minister Dato’ Srì Mohd. Najib Tun Razak just announced the much awaited his first mandated Cabinet after BN managed to retain the Federal Government and take control of ten out of twelve state governments. A sweet surprise a fellow ANSARA member is a Cabinet Minister.
President and Chief Executive of Maybank Dato Seri Abdul Wahid Omar is now Minister in Prime Minister’s Department. He was former MRSM Seremban (1977-81). He is expected to swear in as a Senator before taking oath of office before His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Yang DiPertuan Agong at Istana Negara soon after.
Johor Bahru born and London trained Fellow of Chartered Associaton of Certified Accountants Wahid was previously CEO of Telekom Malaysia and Renong. He was brought into the commercial limelight in the same cohort of professional accountants like Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar, Dato’ Seri Che Khalib Mohd. Noh and Dato’ Azman Yahya twelve years ago.
Another ANSARA member, Dato’ Razali Ibrahim is retained as Deputy Minister but moved from Youth and Sports to PM’s Department. Razali is MP for Muar.
Last Monday, ANSARA Dato’ Paduka Mukhriz Mahathir swore in as the tenth Menteri Besar Kedah. He is the first ANSARA member to be appointed to the post of MB or Chief Minister.
These are proud products of technocrats from Second Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein’s New Economic Policy. Maktab Rendah Sains MARA Seremban was the first of 54 colleges presently, open its doors in 1972.
What is unclear from this Cabinet is the Minister in charge of Majlis Amanah Rakyat. Until 2009 when PM Najib announced his first Cabinet after taking over from then PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, MARA was placed under Minister of Entrepreneur and Co-operative Development.
Best of luck to all.
