Regent of Perak: Utusan Malaysia is not racist

HRH Regent of Perak Raja Nazrin Shah Ibni Sultan Azlan Shah opined that nationalist Malay daily Utusan Malaysia is not a racist paper. According to him, neither is Senior Assistant Chief Editor Dato’ Zaini Hassan for defending Lancome Sales Manager Melissa Gooi and her friends for their rude and scathing remark against His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Yang DiPertuan Agong XIV is his official birthday celebration titah early June.

Zaini and Utusan Malaysia have been demonised as ‘racists’ for their opinion, standing up for the Malays and their arguments on what had been clearly provided by the Federal Constitution. Particularly, in matters pertaining the position of HRH Rulers, Special Malay Rights, Islam as the religion of the Federation of Malaysia, Malay as the national language and other related issues.

They were both sued by then Selangor State Exco and DAP MP for Seputeh and ADUN for Kinrara Teresa Kok for Zaini’s weekly Utusan Malaysia column Cuit “Azan, Jawi, Jais, UiTM dan ba-alif-ba-ya” on 10 September 2008.

Teresa Kok agrees her name not specifically mentioned in ‘Cuit’ column of Utusan M’sia

Posted on June 27, 2013, Thursday

KUALA LUMPUR: Seputeh Member of Parliament Teresa Kok Suh Sim agreed in the High Court here yesterday that her name was not specifically mentioned in the ‘Cuit’ column of Utusan Malaysia five years ago.

Kok also agreed that only the names of Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim and former menteri besar Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo were mentioned in the article under the heading, “Azan, Jawi, Jais, UiTM dan ba-alif-ba-ya”, which was published on Sept 10, 2008.

“I agree that only Khir Toyo and Khalid’s names were mentioned in the article and no other leader (Yang Berhormat)’s name,” she said during cross-examination by Counsel Mohana Kumar TKB, who is representing Utusan Malaysia and columnist Datuk Mohd Zaini Hassan, in her RM30 million defamation suit against them.

However, Kok, who is represented by Counsel SN Nair, said readers who read the whole article would know it referred to her.

She said Utusan did not contact her to get her comments on the article in the ‘Cuit’ column.

She also said that the defendants never interviewed her on the issues mentioned in the article before publishing it.

Questioned by Mohana whether she agreed that when Mohd Zaini wrote the column, he was bound by journalism ethics not to reveal the names of his sources, she answered, “I don’t agree”.

She also disagreed with counsel that Utusan Malaysia was not biased in its reporting.

Meanwhile, Kok admitted that Pakatan Rakyat boycotted Utusan Malaysia at the end of May 2008, but said reporters from Utusan were still invited to, and attended Pakatan Rakyat’s press conferences in Selangor.

On Oct 9, 2008, Kok filed the suit claiming that the article had portrayed her as a person who could not be trusted, a bad politician, a racist and anti-Islam.

She contended that the article was also made widely accessible throughout Malaysia and the world through Utusan’s online service, resulting in her reputation and integrity being tarnished.

The Opposition have been continuously and consistently demonising Utusan Malaysia as ‘racists’ in the ‘Politics of Hatred’ strategy. When they did not manage to convince the majority of the Malays for Utusan Malaysia’s nationalist stance as being ‘racist’, they decided to take the Malay daily to court whenever any reporting or analysis were written and published against them and they were trapped for their own mischievous if not sinister politicking.

This is an attempt to shut them out as these Opposition leaders and minority mischievous and socio-political deviants are unable to rationalise their ‘Politics of Hatred’ tactical moves, being exposed, commented and analysed by Utusan Malaysia.

Even when Utusan Malaysia published the front page “Apa lagi Cina mahu?” as an immediate reaction to the shocking 13GE result and as a follow up to Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Mohd. Najib Tun Razak’s own instantaneous reaction the night the election results start to roll in as “Chinese Tsunami”, Chinese media tried to paint Utusan Malaysia as ‘racist’.

However, Prime Minister Najib turned to compare Utusan Malaysia against the Chinese dailies, which according to him “What about the Chinese papers? Are the Chinese papers saying the right things all the time?”.

The fact is that the DAP is the Chinese Chauvinist lot and their premeditated racism and hatred scathing attacks are the main cause for the huge divide between the Malays and Non Malays, especially the Chinese. They have been on structured, consistent and progressive attacks against the authorities which are controlled by the Malays since their inception in 1967.

It has been proven that nothing is spared, which include HRH Rulers.

Is this racism or inline to the provisions of the Federal Constitution?

They also continuously thread across seditious line and systematically attempted to challenge the limit of the system. Whenever any action is taken against them particularly on Sedition Act 1948, then they cry foul as if they are victims of persecution and draconian authorities.

The fact is that, Utusan Malaysia has been proven time and again that their reporting is accurate, even though it is often seen or pictured as demonising the minorities and their agenda. Continuously, actually bought some into this strategy and joined the foray of attacks.

Take a look closely at this Youtube recording, where DAP MP for Jelutong Jeff Ooi demanded Utusan Malaysia and pro-UMNO blogger BigDog to apologise to Christians, right after finished making a Police report in Penang North East IPD on 8 May 2011. Notice one of the persons who stood behind Ooi.

Utusan Malaysia has been consistent as a nationalist paper, where the agenda of the nation comes first. It is about standing by and up for the Federal Constitution all the while and they have never been proven otherwise.

It is time that Utusan Malaysia stand up against them. Malaysians should no longer be fed with their consistently scathing lies, in their zest to come into power and denying the rights and aspirations of the majority.

It is about the combination of being righteous for the sake of the nation and upholding the principle of freedom of press. Today, HRH Regent of Perak who is also a political science researcher already absolved Utusan Malaysia as being a true Malaysian paper.

  1. This minority group will never be satisfed until UMNO and Utusan are totally destroyed. Both are Malay icons.

This tribe gets emboldened since their first taste of blood in 2008.

The strangest and most unfortunate aspect of this political crusade, is that both “victimised” parties are perpetually in defensive mode.

Tak perlu berbudi bahasa, bilamana hak kebebasan bersuara dan hak perlembagaan dipertahankan.

    • To understand the kind of people we are dealing with, allow me to copy and paste below.

After understanding them, we need to take the necessary action. I support what the Perak Regent said.

“Chinese Tsunami & Those Descended from Southern China

Practically all Chinese in Malaysia are descended from southern China. Many are law-abiding and Constitution-respecting and they deserve to be called and may be treated as fellow citizens.

But a sizable number does not respect the Constitution and have been anti-Establishment all along. This is perhaps traceable to the fact that their ancestors in southern China have always been the anti-Establishment kind. They resented being ruled by foreigners for hundreds of years – the Manchu Emperors were foreigners from Manchuria, a foreign country until after World War II. They, like the Mongols in the 13th Century, invaded, conquered and ruled China from the 17th until the 20th Century.

The Manchu invasion of China was helped by the treachery of one Chinese General. During the rebellion against the Ming Dynasty Emperor, a Chinese General, Li Tzu-cheng, had captured Peking and proclaimed himself Emperor in 1644. But Li took the concubine of another rebel General, Wu San-kuei, into his harem. Because of the girl, the embittered Wu refused to recognize the new Emperor Li, opened the gates of the Great Wall at Shan Hai Kuan and let the Manchu Army in, conquered it and the Manchus started ruling China – Professor C.P Fitzgerald, History of China, pg 542-3.

In this context, watch out the guy with a Rainbow in Penang who has been glorifying Sun Yat Sen of China and trying to get other Chinese in this country to his politics. And note that the British first entered Perak due to the treachery of the Kapitan Cina in Larut who, together with 44 gangsters, signed a petition for the British in Penang to assist them recover tin mines lost to rival gangs that have been fighting incessantly under the Ghee Hin and the Hai San banners, and those led to the British sending troops under Capt Speedy etc, ending in the Pangkor Treaty of 1874 and the bloody British ruling Malaya as colonizers. How treacherous they were.

Here‘s Professor Fitzgerald’s account of the Manchus’ attitude towards the Chinese (he stayed in China for 5 years to study the language and dig the records in the Chinese archives):

“The north was loyal, and was trusted – up to a point. The south, embittered and rebellious, was … mistrusted, and oppressed … the ever hostile south. “ – pg 545.

Disloyalty, rebellions, treachery, then foreign wars and more rebellions (Chinese secret societies, thugs and gangsters originated from south China), suffering and misery in the 19th Century, many absconded China and found their way to the shores of Semenanjung Tanah Melayu.

Those who don’t respect and refuse to live by the Constitution of this country carry a hangover of the mental attitude of the southern Chinese. They need to be brought into mainstream Malaysiana, but those who persistently refuse to respect and live by the Constitution, including the sensitive Articles, need to be told to migrate elsewhere, like has been said even by well-known personalities in this country. Especially the tsunami Chinese.”

  2. Let it be known that after the Chinese tsunami, Utusan has to be more prominent than before. Utusan is the mouth piece of UMNO and has been so for decades. UMNO represents the Malays, been so for some 60 years. Utusan cannot but speak for UMNO and the Malays. Protect and promote the rights and interests of the the Malays.

Doing those is not racist. Being antagonistic towards another race is racist. Like the DAP wanting so-called Malaysian Malaysia and equality without acknowledging the Special Position of the Malays and the Bumiputeras of Sabah and Sarawak. That is racist because it antagonizes the Malays and the Bumiputeras. It even caused the race riots of 1969.

Najib spoke about repealing the Sedition Act. Utusan may not speak loudly against that, but we can, and we must speak up. It’s plainly nonsensical to do away with a tool very necessary for reigning in the seditious, the subversives and the anti-national elements in the country. Even the US still has laws that are worse than the Sedition Act – they have the ISA-like indefinite detention without trial in Guantanamo Bay, and the Patriot Act, enacted after the blasting of the New York Twin Towers, hugely curtailing freedom in a so-called free country.

I support fully the call by the HRH Regent of Perak for basic education on loyalty towards the YDP Agong and the Malay Rulers. Such education should also include patriotism towards the country. Nothing better than at school. The anti-national elements even criticized the BTN courses. But now that History is compulsory in schools, there may be less anti-national elements among the younger generations in the future. We need to ensure that the History syllabus and the text books are not influenced by the tsunami Chinese and those they are in cahout with.

Terutama nya DAP.

  4. The lawyers should collaborate with the Education Ministry to scrutinise the legality and justify that vernacular schools (VS) are unconstitutional.

DAP must also walk the talk, since they always bark that they are Malaysians first. They must in fact lead the call to abolish VS. These VS are in essence, an embodiment of the pendatang mindset.

The original purpose was to provide a passage of return for the imported labourers, back to their original homelands. Now that they have been granted citizenship, that colonial purpose was rendered invalid and hence obsolete.

With the evident and dangerously escalating racial polarisation, there is an URGENT need to relook at the Education system.

Unfortunately, some Bumi leaders are lacking the patriotic spine to execute the tough but necessary decisions for a more united Malaysia.

This is a reconciliative and INCLUSIVE initiative, not a migrate call. There will always be political hypocrites who deserve to be bravely wisely ignored and rejected.

My fervent prayers for blessed Ramadhan is to have wise leaders with patriotic spines, not popularity pursuits with “I love so-and-so” banners and such idiocies.

    • I’m getting to feel that, shout what we want, nothing is going to happen the way we want it until and unless Najib is removed as UMNO President.

You see, he and his brother Nazir of CIMB believe that they are liberal. Even the NEP Najib sidelined it in his New Economic Model. His brother laughed at it, talking about bastardizing it. What more on Sekolah Cina when he sent his own son to Beijing to study Mandarin and had it publicized.

Woe betide the Malays and the fulfillment of the objectives of UMNO so long as Najib remains as President.

I’m also beginning to feel that Najib may be a worse curse on us than Tun Dol. We need more than prayers – we need to persuade the potential delegates to the UMNO party elections in November. And even those Supreme Council members who may wish to fish in murky waters.

  5. Utusan has proven to be a true nationalist organisation. Even tho UMNO indirect own them, Utusan do very much better than UMNO in defending the position of Raja Raja, Islam & Hàk Keistimewaan Melayu.

In spirit & practice, UMNO lost it! Under Sleepyhead Supremo, UMNO became very un-nationalistic & compromise on their Malay ‘heroism’ as the symbol for championing the Malay cause when Hishamuddin apologised for drawing & kissing Pemuda UMNO keris Panca Warisan. There on, this heroic tradition was completely withdrawn.

There onwards, UMNO became more apologetic for being a nationalist party.

When Najib took over, he was more bent on down-playing the UMNO nationalism till a point where in last three UMNO Annual assemblies, issues pertaining the Chinese was made a taboo!

In the minds of many especially from the grassroot, UMNO leadership & Supreme Council consists of self-serving eunuchs. Even at divisional level.

All the Malays had to boldly champion their cause is Utusan Malaysia. They dared to continue championing the Malay cause, even if it meant giving all the NGOs spaces in their newspaper.

What is glaring is that Utusan is bold to take a position when it comes on issues pertaining to the Malays.

That’s why UMNO Deputy President Muhyiddin Yassin mentioned it in his speech addressing the 2012 opening of UMNO Tri-Wing Assemblies, where he shocked many to announce Utusan aggregated law suits is in excess of RM1b!

The law often clearly not on Utusan’s side. Probably the basis of judgment these judges hv to decide in a few cases against Utusan of late.

Never the less, Utusan still did not falter nor wither. They continue on their nationalism stance without losing an octave.

For a Regent to acknowledge that is his titah, that is the highest form of validation & commendation. Utusan has arrived!

    SYABAS UTUSAN MALAYSIA!

    • The RM1 billion is not so frightening. So long as Utusan fight to the highest court of the land – the Federal Court. Exhaust all legal avenues. And the awards are not likely to be the full mount sued – the total would be far from RM1 billion anyway.

The ones with reasonably good chances of winning, Utusan should counter sue. It’s not far fetched to think maybe can win and make money from the suits even.

  6. Tun Dr Mahathir has said it – Bernama reported it to day. A load of meaning and implications by his statements.

A law cannot be simply drafted or abolished following demands from certain quarters, including the opposition, said he.

In fact, he said a study must be carried out to collect input and opinions from various quarters, or other countries which had enforced or abolished such and act, as well its impacts.

“If we bow to the demands of the opposition, there will be no law. Right now, they are demanding to have a rule of law, but if there’s no law, how can we have a rule of law,” he said further.

He said this in response to the demands made by certain quarters to abolish the Sedition Act 1948.

Mahathir said if the Act were to be abolished, the people would be free to do anything or insult anybody.

“We used to have a courteous society where we don’t easily insult people, but now, we have people easily bad-mouthing us, insulting our religion and our Prophet, but we can do nothing about it.

“The problem in not the law, but the people who are abusing the law,” he added.

My question is: What does Najib say?

    • Good to hear Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Shahidan Kassim saying all quarters should defend the Sedition Act 1948 “for it to remain in use to prevent disruption to public order and racial harmony.”

“The Sedition Act, if abolished, will receive the same fate as the Internal Security Act, whereby action could not be taken against many cases involving security due to the absence of the ISA now,” he said.

Good also that in the report, Bernama pointed out that Home Minister Ahmad Zahid had hit out at certain quarters who were urging for the Sedition Act to be abolished without thinking of the negative impact.

Not just Shahidan, also MPs like Kubang Pasu Mohd Johari Baharom said maintaining the Act was not for a political motive but to ensure the survival of all races in the country.

Kuala Selangor MP, Irmohizam Ibrahim said although the Sedition Act was an old law, it was still relevant today as it could help check subversive elements out to divide the people.

My question still is: what does Najib say?

    • Hmm..Najib if you notice prefers to sit pretty and espouses endlessly on his economic transformation agenda. Perhaps to him, everything about an individual and society is about dollars and cents. This is coupled with his leanings towards liberal policies. He fits better in PKR than in UMNO. Malays who are with UMNO for agama, bangsa & negara simply cannot afford to keep this guy as a leader in UMNO. Malaysia has been turned into a souless society, cold and materialistic as it is rapidly and wobbly steered into worldly economic achievements. It is in this context too that one wonders why is it even an issue to drill nationalism and the history of Malaya and Malaysia into the heads of school kids. These subjects are compulsory to bury into the conscience of these young minds patriotism and nationalism. Forget those ridiculous liberals who try to interfere at every step of the way. After all liberalism is a weak formula at nation building. It only meddles and pretends to represent rights of individuals without realising that no one is an island. Individual rights that falter will still in the end run to the society for help.
