Pribumi wants to join Pakatan, but seeks coalition ‘rebranding’

BY RAHMAH GHAZALI

PETALING JAYA: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Pribumi) will make a formal request to join Pakatan Harapan but it also wants the coalition to be “rebranded” as a single entity.
Pribumi chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pic) said this is part of their efforts to ensure straight fights against Barisan Nasional in the next general election.
The former prime minister said Pribumi will suggest “a more suitable name” for the coalition to be under one symbol and one election manifesto.
“Other than a new name, we also want to have a new logo and a symbol for the election, as well as a manifesto,” he told reporters after chairing a Pribumi supreme council meeting here Tuesday.
Pakatan Harapan is currently made up of DAP, PKR and Amanah.
He added that Pribumi also proposed that only one candidate is fielded in each constituency to represent this coalition.
Asked whether this would prevent overlapping seats among the component parties, Dr Mahathir said he is confident that the new strategy would work.
“I am sure they (Pakatan member parties) will agree to this. One of the reasons they lost in the last election was because they failed to unite under one symbol,” he said.
On seat distribution, he said this has yet to be decided as Pribumi is not officially part of Pakatan.
On its cooperation with PAS, Dr Mahathir said Pribumi is open to forging political ties with any party, and not just the Islamist party.

The former BN Chairman for 22 years is not expected to be democratic but instead be pushy, in this new coalition despite his party Pribumi is the smallest and the most untested in between the existing three Opposition coalition.

It is expected this would not augur well with some quarters of the grassroots of DAP and PKR, which already strongly demonstrated anti-Mahathir sentiments for their experience over half a century with the former UMNO President of 22 years.

The basic premise itself is already unparalleled. Pakatan Harapan own its own as is, aspire to defeat BN so that they could come to power.

Dr Mahathir is inspired by toppling Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Mohd. Najib Tun Razak. It is exactly two years ago this month when he openly criticised Prime Minister Najib, on excuses such as 1MDB, BR1M, Altantuyaa Shaaribuu murder, Datin Sri Rosmah Mansor, Government’s debts etc.

Then he focused on 1MDB and tried using Former Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Mohd. Yassin to start a ‘rebellion within’, to topple Prime Minister Najib by inducing pressure.

It is believed he used foreign media to hype and compound on the issue, together with the ‘”Four Tan Sris” who ‘quickly and conveniently’ formed the ‘Special Task Force’ upon the revelation of the RM2.6 billion said to be deposited into Prime Minister Najib’s personal bank account.

He toured the nation despite Prime Minister Najib announced that the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee would study the matter and later MACC would investigated the deposit into personal account.

When that failed, Dr. Mahathir tried to instigate UMNO members to use the party 2015 General Assembly and raise the matter. That turned out to be a failed scheme, despite his cry was “To save UMNO”.

Then when his pre-emptive manoeuvre to paint the horrible picture that Government would cover up MACC’s submission of their investigation to the Attorney General on 31 December 2015 failed, he quit UMNO. It did not get the ripple that he hoped to trigger.

Then he changed his battlecry to “Save Malaysia”.

On 4 March 2016, Dr Mahathir openly declared end of a half century feud and willing to work with his nemesis DAP Supremo Chinese Chauvinist Emperorissimo Lim Kit Siang and DAP when they launched the ‘Deklarasi Rakyat’. The petition was supposed to gather signature from the public.

After months of hoodwinking the public like “The ‘Deklarasi Rakyat’ would be presented to the Rulers Council, for the purpose of sacking Prime Minister Najib” and utterance of seditious statements such as “His Majesty is under ‘House Arrest’!” when he did not get an audience to meet His Majesty SPB YDP Agong IV.

In half a year, His Majesty Agong IV agreed to grant Dr Mahathir the audience, which was in Istana Anak Bukit, Alor Star, Kedah instead his official residence at Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur. However, Dr Mahathir failed to convince His Majesty of his case.

Dr Mahathir is the fourth UMNO top leadership to be out of the party and aspire to amass public support and cause a blow against the nationalist party and the Barisan Nasional (the Alliance) coalition in past 63 years.

First UMNO President Dato’ Onn Jaafar (Parti Negara, Independent Malayan Party), former Vice President Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (Semangat 46) and former Deputy President Anwar Ibrahim (KeAdilan, PKR and Pakatan Rakyat) had all failed. Ku Li and Anwar had massive exodus from UMNO and followings when they started their own party respectively.

Dr Mahathir did not enjoy such a support. No UMNO MPs, ADUNs or Non of the 188 UMNO Divisions (Minus Pagoh, Jerlun and Semporna) left the party and joined him nor Pribumi President Muhyiddin in their new party.

Mean while the DAP and PKR grassroots and middle ground leaders demonstrated their deep dissatisfaction of working with Dr Mahathir or where the Opposition is heading.  Nor with Muhyiddin.

That is withstanding the fact that the Opposition coalition had not been pushed around by Dr Mahathir.

The recent resignation of a DAP MP,  several ADUNs in Melaka and several DAP Branch leaders quitting is not a sign of this ‘upcoming’ Pakatan Harapan would convince more voters for their cause of strange-bed-fellows.

  1. Itu Pakatan mesti mau sokong maa aa ,tapi mesti betut-betut gabung maa aa ,tatak sendili-sendili baru bolih betut-betut kuat lea aa .

  2. Bersatu + Pakatan = Bersarap Paku

It’s really apt becoz it would be a bed of nails these strange bedfellows are sharing and waking up for breakfast.

The Q is who would eat who, first?

All don’t trust each other and 50 years of animosity won’t go away overnight, sharing a bed of nails.

    • it used to be a war of ideas and principles. now its about a common loser. besides, i really want harapan to win so that mo1 can be officially named. dont you wanna know who he is?

the bed of nails is nothing.

  3. BD,

Your kampung kinsman really put his money where his mouth is; a tree stump.

He was blabbering in Parliament, trying to spin and lie about FGV shares slumped from IPO to such low, becoz of bad corporate governance.

The hard truth is the world commodity market dipped near catastrophic levels as compounded effects from and with the plummeting crude oil. Oil trade also affected major currency sliding against the Greenback.

That was three yrs ago. FGV corporate governance is being investigated only now. His speech bears neither separation nor distinction between Felda and FGV, which is clearly meant to instigate the sentiments of the rakyat. Particularly, in the 56 constituencies where the are Felda settlements.

This sole drift wood is the only representing Flower Party in Parliament. No wonder when he was sacked as DPM and later as Umno second man, no one of strategic position stood up and went with him.
its obvious Flower party is attracting flies, instead of the hawks.

He is lucky no BN MP raised in Parliament about the affidavit with his name mentioned in a high profile divorce case!

This is not a spin. It is documented in papers tendered for court hearing.

    • Other commodities companies are doing ok – Wilmar, Olam, Glencore, Trafigura etc etc.

In spite of the strong USD.

Where were the strategists in Felda & FGV? They didn’t see this coming? Or was complacency to blame?

  4. Will Padang Rengas debate be on YouTube?
Will a little Perakian punk crack and break the tough head of a Kedahan giant?

Or will Turkey become a fail state with a tyrant Turk President having to contain the vindictive ISIS stragglers and freedom loving Kurds while Bashar and Putin rebuild Syria forcing the Israelis to annex the West Bank?

Malaysian politics is boring with two grumpy old men with spoilt kids crazy for attention.

Padang Rengas massacre awaits, though; so let Kit Siang fornicate Siti Hasmah with Mahathir’s consent then. LOL

  5. […] hasilnya tidak mebanggakan dan keberkesanan parti ini, yang kini cuba untuk menjadi ‘Jaguh dan Kepala’ walaupun belum lagi diterima masuk pakatan pembang…, amat […]
