PM Najib: Only UMNO can take care of the Malays and Malaysians

Seventh UMNO President Dato’ Seri Mohd. Najib Tun Razak affirms his call that UMNO as the nationalist party is the only party that can take care of the Malays and the same time, ensure the country had and is being managed well so that the rest of Malaysians are being taken care of as well. He made this call during the closing address of the Annual UMNO Assembly in PWTC this evening.

PM Dato' Seri Mohd. Najib Tun Razak delivering the closing address in the 61st UMNO Annual Assembly in PWTC, 23 Oct 2010

“All these talks about changing provisions in the Federal Constitution will not happen. It cannot happen without the assent of HRH Rulers. I don’t think so HRHs would want any of it changed. Let’s all completely forget about it”, also stressing all the calls that provisions in the Federal Constitution such as Special Malay Rights (Article 153) be looked into and amended to the calls of the Non Malays and Malay Liberals.

In this opening address, PM Najib recollects how the Malays took the lead in the quest of Independence after successfully failed the Malayan Union. Describing the Malays as taking ‘progressive’ approach to accept the Non Malays as equals under the Jus Soli against the Jus Sanguinis principles of social justification, political co-operation was forged. That enables across the board stability managed to be achieved and thus allowed progress and development to take place despite the complex problems of social injustice, uneven development growth between ethnic groups and inherent and integral intra-ethnic issues.

The socio-political landscape would be very different if the Malays, which include HRHs adopted the Jus Sanguinis principle. Naturally, the Non Malays would be treated differently and would treat this nation as a ‘transit point’ instead as a ‘home’. Progress and development of the nation would be much different. It is clear that PM Najib as the elected leader of the Malays appreciated the Non Malays’ contribution for this nation and want them to continue to work with Malays.

In short, this 61st UMNO Annual Assembly saw PM Najib brilliantly articulated the quid pro quo symbiotic relationship forged under the ‘social contract’ and ‘power share’ concepts with status quo, in the light of ceteris paribus.

In this UMNO assembly, PM Najib as the UMNO President assured the Malays that theirs needs would not be neglected without denying the rights of the others, as per provided in the Federal Constitution. In the same breadth, he called for UMNO to continue serving all and not only the Malays and announced the new tagline, “UMNO champions the rakyat” (UMNO dahulukan rakyat).

“Don’t think if other people takes over from us, despite with the provisions in the Federal Constitution the Malays would be taken care of. They will not. Only UMNO would and could be taking care of the Malays”. On Thursday, PM Najib calls for the ’empowerment’ of the Malays, so that the rest of the nation can progress and prosper.

“Even though the Federal Constitution is ‘locked’, it is imperative that UMNO remain in power so that all which have been provided are translated in the implementation”.

PM Najib also announced that he would be making several changes in the leadership of UMNO, which also include a State Liaison Chiefs level. Its a case of mutatis mutandis. He asked that UMNO leaders and delegates ‘go to the ground’ and explain Government policies. He clearly want UMNO back to be a ‘masses’ party and leaders get closer to the stakeholders, mainly the voters. He also announced that he and his Deputy Tan Sri Muhyiddin Mohd. Yasin would be in a road-trip ‘making rounds’ and asked UMNO to ‘prepare the ground’ for this ‘meet the rakyat’ sessions.

This will be a very good opportunity for UMNO grass roots meeting PM Najib and TPM Muhyiddin in person.

PM Najib also asked UMNO to embrace new and social media as it is necessary to keep up with the trend on how more and more Malaysians especially the Malays communicate. “Its time to embrace new and social media. Even I do it myself”. He is also known to be progressive with his approach to enagage cybersphere communities, which also include bloggers.

In the recent much highlighted case of an UMNO Cabinet Minister making a Police report against a blogger and took a lot of flak, PM Najib also expressed his ‘disappointment’ (terkilan) on the episode and was said that he would seek for a solution in this issue.

In the same tone, he reminded that UMNO be mindful on the changing times and demands of the dynamism of modern times.

After the closure of the assembly, Fifth UMNO President Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad expressed his pleasure that PM Najib was able to reassure the Malays that the Perjuangan still continues. He sees that the spirit that becomes the fundamental of UMNO’s struggle lives on and the ‘continuity’ exist.

Dr M gives ringing endorsement to Najib’s leadership

TUN Dr Mahathir Mohamad gave a ringing endorsement to current Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s leadership.

The former prime minister and party president said that he felt nostalgic at this year’s assembly and expressed confidence about the party’s direction under Najib.

“It feels like the Umno of old,” said Dr Mahathir, with a broad smile.

Asked to comment on Najib’s leadership, Dr Mahathir said: “I am confident of his (Najib) leadership,” he said.

Jerlun MP Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir agreed with his father’s sentiment and felt that the party was back to its original struggle, which is to fight for the rights of the Malays.

“The president’s speech outlined the importance of putting the rakyatfirst.

“It also stressed on ensuring the majority receive a certain portion of the economic cake,” he said.

He added that if such goals could not be ascertained, he could not see how the country could continue with its current political landscape.

Asked to comment on his father’s endorsement of Najib’s leadership, Mukhriz, who is also Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister, said it was a great bonus to current administration.

“It is common knowledge that my father has a great impact on everybody.

“Such endorsement is great for the party and the leadership,” he said.

  1. All great minds think alike….I am not saying me but Najib and Tun M. and definitely not the UMNO Youth skunk who talk cock about thinking new ideas, all for the sake of his personal selfish and egoistic glory.

    • Which one is the UMNO Youth Skunk?

Razali? Kahiry? Both talked Cock so which one is it?

  2. No other party ( for now) cannnot champion the struggle of the Malays…only you ..UMNO.But Najib please get rid the parasite in your cabinet minister that could destroy UMNO during the election.I LOVE UMNO.

  3. Alhamdulillah, the healing has started. Finally, Najib had vocalised his stance on Malay rights.

May Allah bless all genuine UMNO leaders. Our ptayers too for Ibrahim Ali and PERKASA members.

    • Eh?
You mean there are also Non Genuine UMNO Leaders?

      Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing?

Name them Publicly so we can know who they are!

      • who are you to make demands eh??

  4. Kudos to Najib who is doing well towards recovering lost grounds made by the inept previous UMNO president.

2.DS Najib tidak menghalang akhbar-akhbar memuatkan berita mengenai Tun Dr. Mahathir tetapi Tun Abdullah menyekat akhbar menyiarkan berita2 mengenai Tun Dr.Mahathir.

    8. Tugas pertama Tun Dr. Mahathir selepas diterima menjadi ahli UMNO ialah membantu kempen BN di Parlimen Bukit Gantang dan DUN Bukit Selambau dengan kehadiran begitu ramai penyokong. Walaupun BN kalah dikedua-dua tempat, tetapi UMNO beransur pulih semula.

    9. Tun Dr. Mahathir turut turun padang sebanyak 2 kali membantu pilihanraya kecil Parlimen Hulu Selangor dengan kehadiran yang diluar jangka. Begitu ramai orang menyambut PM, TPM dan Tun Dr. Mahathir di malam terakhir kempen. Keputusannya BN menang.

    15. Terima kasih DS Najib dan penasihat-penasihatnya.

  6. This is what Najib said: “All these talks about changing provisions in the Federal Constitution will not happen. It cannot happen without the assent of HRH Rulers. I don’t think so HRHs would want any of it changed. Let’s all completely forget about it”

Either he did not read the Constitution or he had forgotten or he did not know about the amendment of the Constitution made by UMNO in 1994 (then under Mahathir: remember the Rulers Crisis?) which read under Article 40 1(A): “In the exercise of his functions under this Constitution or federal law, where the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is to act in accordance with advice, on advice, or after considering advice, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong shall accept and act in accordance with such advice.”

It is clear that the HRH Rulers are bound to accept anything the Parliament had agreed upon, and does not have power to reject it; even changing provisions in the Federal Constitution. In its bid to seize total power, UMNO had taken away the last bastion of the Malay.

Now, who said that “Only UMNO can defend the Malay”?
