Chun Wai: Blinkered racism analysis to demonise a Statesman?

Wong Chun Wai, kudos for being quick on the draw when it comes to exposing racism or any other misdemeanour of a Malay leader and in this case, the Fifth UMNO President and Fourth Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

From what we have perceived in his blog New Malaysia, Wong, who is the Group Editor in Chief for  The Star, is truly the very essence of what Dr Mahathir had intended to highlight in his blog in the posting Pohon Maaf” which Wong took offence and accused of the former Prime Minister of sharpening racial tones.

This is not the first time Wong had targetted Dr Mahathir for wrongdoings. Among others, corrupt practices as well as curtailing press freedom.

We will address the accusation of Dr Mahathir sharpening racial tones in his blog of the title mentioned above. We all read Dr Mahathir’s blog and his subsequent follow up posting called Pohon Maaf 2.

While Wong’s criticisms was on the first and not the second. Reading Dr Mahathir’s posting, it was obvious he was expressing the sentiments of many Malays and what they felt about the whole issue of Deputy PM Najib Tun Razak’s apology on behalf of Ahmad Ismail which was rejected by the non-Malay political leaders, including from the MCA which Wong is serving.

While it can be argued that Dr Mahathir, by bringing in the issue of Wee Meng Chee and Hindraf, it was not whether they apologised or that they were arrested under the ISA, the point is that the non-Malays did not take issue with Wee nor Hindraf when his action and their memorandum was definitely insulting to the Malays.

We do think Dr Mahathir’s views are shared by many Malays who felt that when a Malay commit an act which insulted the non-Malays, the non-Malays are quick to react and chastise him or her but when the non-Malays commit the act, instead of practising similar standards, tend to either be an apologist of the perpetrator or become defensive when criticised by the Malays.

It is so in the case of Wee Meng Chee. No doubt the MCA organised the “apology” for Wee but the intention was to ensure that he would not bear the full brunt of the anger of the Malays.

In short, the MCA was not upset with Wee for demeaning Negaraku and making fun of the Muslim call for prayers, rather to ensure that he goes unpunished. In other words, the MCA did not find Wee’s action as offensive or offensive enough to deserve any punishment other than probably a smack on the hand.

Similarly in the case of Hindraf. If Wong and the rest of the non-Malay community found that Ahmad Ismail’s remarks offensive and deserving a punishent even to the extend of the full force of the sedition laws as proposed by the MCA president wannabe Ong Tee Keat (not forgetting Lim Guan Eng’s police report to the ACA in case Ahmad gets away unpunished), surely similar demand should have been made against the Hindraf leaders by the alert MCA leaders and newspaper editor, the DAP and the rest who are bent on seeing Ahmad crucified for his alleged seditious slurs (alleged because he has denied it and accused Sin Chew of manipulating his speech – in the case of Hindraf, their seditious slurs are there in black and white in the memorandum which Wong could have donwloaded and printed it and judge it as quick as he judged Dr Mahathir).

What can we conclude from here?

Obviously that Dr Mahathir had pointed out that when a Malay makes a remark which hurts the non-Malays, they will come out in full force to condemn and demand for “blood” but when actions or remarks uttered which hurts the Malays, the silence can be deafening or worst, becoming apologists or the defender of the non-Malay perpetrator or perpetrators.

It is obvious that such a racially divide reactions are a sing of the times – the present Umno leadership is too weak to keep his the Malays at bay and equally weak to have any regards from the component parties to trust him to handle the issue fairly.

We may sound like a Dr Mahathir’s apologist but we do not mind being labelled as one as we believe that during his tenure, Malays and non-Malays were kept at bay and any who attempted to cross the unseen lines of racial sensitivities.

Having said that, we go to the second issue of Wong targetting Dr Mahathir. To us, it is a clear signal of Wong’s opportunistic nature to remain as the chief editor in The Star.

As we have stated very early in this article Wong epitomise the very essence of what Dr Mahathir was trying to remind Malaysians, Malays and non-Malays alike, to be wary of.

A simple example will suffice to prove this point. At one time Wong had hailed the present leadership of promoting more openess and freedom for the Press and that it was muzzled during Dr Mahathir’s time.

Lest the public forget, Wong was in the forefront in supporting MCA’s move to takeover the control of two Chinese publications – much to the chagrin of the Chinese community.

The reason the MCA and Wong wanted the takeover was very simple – these publications were highly critical of the MCA. After the takeover, the circulation of the publications went down south but that was not of concern to Wong as it served the purpose of his political masters in the MCA.

To legitimise the move, the MCA leaders and Wong convinced Dr Mahathir that the takeover was necessary, accusing the publications as anti-Umno as much as anti-MCA.

While it does not absolve Dr Mahathir of partaking in the MCA and Wong’s devious move, Wong should not get on the moral high horse to judge others.

Another example would be Wong’s new found courage (after Dr Mahathir had stepped down and spurred on by the present administration) to raise issues of corruption and nepotism during Dr Mahathir’s reign.

Without providing any prove, Wong stated that corruption today was a legacy from Dr Mahathir’s time. It sounds fair as someone who had written on issues like corruption when Dr Mahathir took over would probably had said that it was inherited from Tun Hussein Onn.

But what Wong had written was not a glib as such – it was intended to paint that corruption was caused by Dr Mahathir.

Granted that there were corruption during Dr Mahathir’s rule, Wong was however muted about the corruption and nepotism of the MCA president during that period.

In fact, Wong would never encourage any reports on the questios raised about then MCA president Dr Ling Liong Sik’s integrity when his son Hee Liong became a billionaire (mind you, a billionaire) before he was even 30 (the issue was raised by maverick businessman Soh Chee Wen but nary a word in The Star).

It can then be concluded that Wong was merely defending the MCA and his then master Dr Ling, but Wong had then contributed to the issue Dr Mahathir raised – why is it that the non-Malays, in this case Wong, was quick to point corruption and nepotism among Malay leaders but was silent when it comes to their own kind.

Such manner of reporting in actual fact, contributes to the sharpening of the racial tones, painting a picture that all that is bad only involves the Malay leaders and the non-Malay leaders are saints, not by declarations but merely by being silent.

The Malays, Dr Mahathir included, had readily admitted that abuses of power, corruption and all the ills one could think off in a capitalistic democracy. But the silence by Wong and his ilk when it comes to the shennanigans of the non-Malays would, for the short term, triumphed the non-Malays, but it would not contribute anything to the Bangsa Malaysia that Wong is proclaiming to be a champion of.

In that sense, Wong did not miss any points. He only gave us a glimpse of how racist he is, and being paid to be one.

  1. We all know he was Dr M’s lapdog during Dr M’s reign.
Wong just writes whatever suits the agenda.
Now he has prob read some report that MCA is seen as not being vocal enough in whacking UMNO, speaking up for the Chinese, that’s why he also whack lah.
Just wait for some internal party policy change then he will also change.
Like him whacking PAS protesting concerts, what’s the big deal? Why play it up? Protests are normal. PAS is not forcing it down our throats just expressing their stand.
Ain’t it prob like these biz are MCA-related or something?
Whether a comment is racist or not is not the issue. For me, it’s more important to evaluate the content of the comment and then act accordingly — accept, reject, ignore, etc.

  2. The Malays should realise that sometimes being “gracious” is like giving roses to swines.

It is simply unappreciated and an unproductive action. So why be nice if it is interpreted as stupidity and weakness.

Others will just take advantage. Play the game with THEIR rules. They keep asking for a level playing field.

Malays should just work as hard and PROVE that when it comes to ability and talent, GOD is fair to all races.

  3. Racial polarization in this blessed country is reaching its epitome; it’s like a big dynamite or CN4 ready to explode destructively if the real racists in this country do not tone down their colours. The Malays are generally very fed up with the intimidations to their race, religion and special rights re social contract by groups like Hindraf, ceratain political parties, Bar Council, human rights champions etc. And to make things worse, the country has a flip flop PM and a useless defacto law minister who seem not to be pragmatic. What actually Ahmad Ismail said about “pendatang” did not matter; you will find the bulk of the Malays generally are most supportive of his actions as they are loosing their cool. Siapa makan chilli, dia yang tahu macam mana pedas rasa nya is the Malay proverb specially dedicated to Wong Chun Wai and his likes.

  4. 1. Syabas Dato’ Ahmad Ismail for sticking to the facts of the matter. When I saw his urat tapak tangan kanan, I knew he is not someone Chun Wai or for that matter, anyone else can mess about.

    2. The Malays are now sick and tired with apology after apology which meek parties have made when they shouldn’t have done so. For example, do I also need to buy an ad space to apologize in The Star or SCJP for having a kris as part of my wedding bersunat attire?

    3. That most non-Malays are in such privileged positions and splendid achievements in all fields in this country today are ample testimonies that what little so-called protection, privileges and symbols that the Malays/ Muslims have are nowhere near discrimination, racism and hindrance to others as some ungrateful non-Malays have only now mercilessly alleged.

    4. Just like the BangsaMoro have lost Moroland, we too have lost Tanah Melayu. As such, we are not going to take further erosion of what little we have in this country lying down.

    6. The basic precept is simple: if you want peace in this country or elsewhere, don’t throw away the necessary discipline which binds the peace. Sarang tebuan jangan dijolok.

  5. Sarang tebuan jangan dijolok?

apa nak buat, for every racist remark against the Malays, behind these remarks stands a weak Malay leader and mother of all catalyst-malay racist remark, a newly won MP malay leader.
The fact is, malay rakyat is been abused from left to right and top to bottom, by the same leaders they chose.
They should get what’s coming to them.

  8. He who harp on racial issues is a racist indeed.

  9. Why are the chinese community leaders and chinese editors and chinese writers harping on ahmad ismail’s alleged racist remark? They did not here the ceramah. They jump merely on reports that appeared in chinese dailies. Read in The Star today (Sept 7, 2008), some of the journalist interviewed admitted they did not hear the entire ceramah but the heading reads reporters confirm hearing Ahmad’s racist remark.
Also on the same page in The Star, the headline says Leaders Upset with Dr M for questioning why malay leaders need to apologise. Dr M’s explanation that he was merely questioning why leaders need to apologise on behave of irresponsible individuals was put at the end of the article. That shows that Star is trying to make things worst. Why can’t the star write the article in the right context to help difuse the tension? that shows that The Star is propogating some kind of propaganda to stoke racial sentiments.
how can teh media expect total freedom when they have proven to be irresponsible?

  10. We are now in the era of Malay bashing. All Non-Malays based political parties and NGOs, both pro-government and opposition are doing their best to undermine Malay positions.

And the sad thing is none of the Malay based parties, UMNO, PAS and to some extent PKR, are doing anything to defend Malay positions for fear of losing Non-Malay supports.

Please be real UMNO and PAS … non-Malays support your parties not because they like your parties or political ideologies. It is because it will serve their interests, politically and economically.

Besides only a handful non-Malay support your parties. If you don’t believe you can try putting your candidate in a non-Malay majority constituency. I can bet my finger none of the candidate from either UMNO or PAS will win.

Please wake up. UMNO and PAS power based is always Malay. So please take care of Malay interests.

“Jangan bermimpi disiang hari”. No matter how good you are to THEM, you’re not gonna get wholehearted supports. Supports from THEM will come only when it serve their purpose.

I pray to Allah there will be one right thinking Malay that will start an NGO (WITH NO POLITICAL INCLINATION WHATSOEVER) that will help defend Malay rights … and stop this Malay bashing.

For all … please read kuda kepang blog by Ruhanie Ahmad.

  11. MCA secretary general ong ka chuan is trying to change history.
He said 300,000 chinese died defending malaysia during the japanese occupation. The chinese did not die defending the country, they died because the japanese hated them then.

  12. “In that sense, Wong did not miss any points. He only gave us a glimpse of how racist he is, and being paid to be one.”

a paid racist … hahahah … what has gone wrong in Malaysia lately … will the real Pak Lah please resign.

  13. Tuan Bigdog;

This Malay=Muslim=Umno=BN bashing have been ‘on going’ for the past few years and the momentum has increased after the general election. After constant exposure from news portal such as Malaysia Today and Malaysiakini, I got the feeling that being Malay & Muslim & UMNO & BN = bad, corrupted and power crazy and being non Malay & non Muslim & PKR = good. It was purposely sensationalised in this portal that the non Malays are suffering from injustice, corruption and tyranny of BN regime.

As if for the past 50 years, this BN (& UMNO) led government are ‘not good’ & very corrupted to the core. Many of them may have forgotten that the economic progress & stability & peace that we had enjoyed were due to the policy of the so called ‘racist’ government.

This UMNO led government had always practised power sharing with other races . It is a fact that in many elections , the so called ‘racist’ Malays had sacrificed many Malay majority seats and elected a non Malay over their Muslim/Malay brother in order that the non Malays will be represented. It is also a fact that this so called ‘racist’ Malay led government is the only government in the world that allow Chinese /tamil schools to be opened & flourished & protected.

Frankly, I am already tired & sick of this Malay/Muslim/UMNO bashing. It bring a dose of fresh air when I saw Che Det, Other Thots and you are putting a different perspectives on this issue.

  14. Sir –

As a Malaysian who has lived most of my life abroad, I find the level of emphasis placed on race in political discourse to be shocking. In the country in which I live, UK, this race-based discourse is occupied only at the fringes of politics. In particular, it tends to be the fascist British National Party that continually perceives the world through racial lenses. They also, incidentally, argue that the whites in the UK are being marginalised and that they are the only party in the country that stands up for “majority rights”. This message only tends to play well to poor white communities that find the view that their problems are caused by “outsiders” (e.g. immigrants, asylum seekers, liberal urbanites, and “non whites” etc) appealing. The rest of the political establishment, and in fact the majority of the population of the UK, rightly sees that the underlying motivation behind this discourse is bigotry and hatred.

The city of London is a great example of how a pluralistic society can work without resorting to race-based politics. London is one of the largest economies in Europe and has a community from almost every country in the world living there. And yet, there is no need for a multi-tiered system of rights based on race or ethnic community. If you come here, you will be struck by how many black and Asian faces you will see on the Tube. You will also be struck by the fact that the financial district tends not to be run by the British, but by the best and brightest from around the world. Meritocracy rules here and everyone accepts that.

What we have in Malaysia, on the other hand, is the politics of race and fear. We are constanly reminded of our race as if that defines us as individuals. My race does not define me any more than the fact that i wear glasses. Furthermore, in order to support the status quo we are reminded that the alternative is civil unrest like we saw in 1969.

I hope that one day Malaysians will look beyond this racist ideology to a Malaysia where people are treated as individuals and defined by their merits rather than being defined by the assumed characteristics of their race.

  15. UMNO is a racist party and there is no point defending it. The demise of UMNO is imminent. I have the highest respect for Tun but I think he did the right thing in his second posting.

As for the so-called wonderful experience in the City of London and what not, who is really in control? Isn’t White Anglo Saxon Protestant the all powerful there? How many Third World British subjects are members of the clan?

Anyway, the sins left by the British colonial masters in Palestine, Kashmir and elsewhere are still telling lessons of the past and present, as well as for the future too.

Who brought in people from India & China in massive number in the first place? To keep the peace and allow the country to develop, we had the social contract, constitutional guarantees and DEB. Now they want to dismantle anything remotely connected with Malays, Bumiputeras and Muslims.

Notwithstanding PRU12 results and the so-called Malaysian Malaysia PM-in-waiting, it is wholly unacceptable. Period.

  17. Basho,

England has been established since the crusaders era, how can you compare to nation that was built a little more 50 years ago? In our so called tube i.e. LRT, have you see chinese sitting in one side and malay sitting in the other? Grow up borther!

The things, when emigrant go to Englend, the speak English properly, then went to english standard school but in Malaysia they dont do this. Speaking Malay like they just got off from a bot! So think before you compare.

  18. Basho,

    you said (which I do not disagree);

“They also, incidentally, argue that the whites in the UK are being marginalised and that they are the only party in the country that stands up for “majority rights”. This message only tends to play well to poor white communities that find the view that their problems are caused by “outsiders” (e.g. immigrants, asylum seekers, liberal urbanites, and “non whites” etc) appealing.”

Luckily the ‘poor white communities’ are the minority there. Here, the poor Malays are the majority. Basho, in your wisdom, how to get this majority people embrace meritcracy? In what way besides the NEP shall the majority poor people in Malaysia in 1969 compete with meritocracy without they themselves being engulfed by the economic power of the minority few?

    Thank you.

The latest news about RPK in Malaysiakini and Malaysia Today, that he would be detained under the ISA have moved me to dedicate this speech by one of the great Freedom Fighters in the world, Martin Luther King Jr. ” I Have a Dream” to him.

  21. why worry.

that wong is a chinese and thus what he wrote reflects the paper and the chinese thoughts.
so we got to thank him for doing what he do best and be remindered of the hidden hatred of chinese towards malays and muslims. (chinese kuffars are racist pigs as the indian hindoos racist pariahs, too – they deny islam and the teaching of Muhammad the illiterate prophet blatantly)

wong did not err and neither did this Ahmad; as muslim are not wrong and non-muslim are not wrong (till the Day of Reckoning is established)

but for your info this down and out bukit bendera UMNO ‘malay radical’ who is having problem retaining his Ketua Bahagian post issue is just a barisan promo and good for that Abdullah – the master and big boss of wong.

    obviously and thanks

  22. Bro, perhaps the blame lies on the UMNO leaders for the current state of affairs.

    Interesting post on http://tpj-one-thepatriot.blogspot.com

Tun needn’t explain himself. It’s the natural characteristic of the non-Malays to test the limits and see how far our weak leaders will let them go.

  23. dear basho
as a malaysian who lived most of your life abroad, PLEASE STAY THERE and don’t come back. You should be here fighting for your rights over here and not abroad whining. We don’t need meek and aksi people like you.

  24. Sirs –

Thank you for your replies. To those of you who have pointed out that Britain has had a long history of racism stretching back to the Crusades and in more recent times during the British Empire, I do not disagree with you. The British have been racist in the past and many still are. However, the ideology of racism is in firm retreat in the UK and I would say in the West in general. That we have a relatively wealthy Chinese community and a relatively poor Malay community in Malaysia is a fact. This economic disparity must be reduced and eventually removed altogether. This is not merely a concern for the Malays but for everyone. This is a question of justice. If the NEP is the right approach then I wholeheartedly support it. Certainly some kind of affirmative action is necessary. However, this approach also applies to other communities in Malaysia that do not appear to be progressing and that includes the Indian community. If affirmative action is appropriate for the Malays then it should also be appropriate for the Indians. This affirmative action must be only a temporary measure until these communities are able to compete on their own steam.

Having said that the NEP movement in Malaysia has gone far beyond this to argue that the affirmative action for the Malay community may be necessary on a permanent basis due to their Bumiputera status and that the non-Malay communities should accept the fact that because they are more recent immigrants their status in the country must necessarily be subordinated to the majority. Although these arguments appear reasonable, I believe them to be invalid based on the view that I know of no cogent philosophical argument that attaches special rights to a person’s race. If there is indeed a strong argument for permanent rights attached to a person’s race then we must also accept a two-tier system of rights (or more) in the rest of the world. For example, should Britain’s 1.7mn Muslims have a system of fewer rights and second class citizenship status merely because they are more recent immigrants and are not of British racial stock? I would argue no.

  25. Bro,
My view is that the approach taken by the anti malays in questioning the rights of the malays as reverse anti-semitism, a tactic adopted by the zionists in the US, Europe & elswhere in wanting the world not to question the holocaust & evrything about the zionists/jews.
There’s a parallel here with a minor twist though. We shall be labelled as racists if we the malays talk about malay issues, rights etc, and the worst it gets if we talk anything at all about the other races. What a big let down this is.

  27. After 50 years tak habis habis lagi….

Hello, the biggest racists and a total letdown to all Malaysians are government ministers who do not send their children to public schools in Malaysia or let their children attend the magnificently beneficial Khidmat Negara program.

Clearly, UMNO is not a racist party. Perhaps, it merely speaks its own brand of truth, and I agree with Big Dog – don’t apologise to anyone.

Clearly Tun is 100% right. UMNO is as close as you can get to the near perfect political party, pity it has to rely on Sabah and Sarawak MPs to survive politically, after all UMNO has been fighting for the rights of Sabahans and Sarawakians since 1946.

So since there is nothing wrong with UMNO, why should Big Dog be so dead against His Greatness Khairy Jamaluddin and His Father In Lawness Abdullah Ahmad Badawi?

  31. Anwar’s Trojan Horse

    The Real Judas

Anwar Ibrahim wants BN to think the defections before 16 September are going to come from Sabah and Sarawak. This explains the focus and frenzy surrounding MPs from East Malaysia. Their movements are being monitored, text messages have been swirling about en bloc defections and some, like Yong Teck Lee and Bernard Giluk Dompok, have been dropping broad hints about wanting to abandon the BN ship.

But the unsuspecting BN leadership is completely unaware of Anwar’s actual game plan. Sabah and Sarawak are the great diversions – Anwar’s red herrings. Sure, he may eventually end up with some defectors from East Malaysia, but the real trigger that he wants to pull will be right under UMNO’s nose. For Anwar, he needs to start with a bang. Something that will cause all other smaller component parties to tremble and quake in their boots leaving them with little choice but to jump en masse.

What Anwar wants to do is to show that he can go for the big scalps. Not your SAPP or UPKO small number of MPs, but from the senior UMNO front bench. What better way of triggering a mass exodus from BN than to show that you have top leaders from BN’s biggest party crossing over into PKR? This is the big bang that Anwar has been working on. Two or three front benchers from UMNO plus five other second tier leaders will be enough to precipitate chaos and panic within the BN ranks. It will be the catalyst of a free-for-all ship abandonment as though sailors have spotted a plague-infested rat on deck.

So, who has Anwar marked as the real Judas in this most audacious of power grab in the history of Malaysian politics. Its not that difficult to answer. Think of someone most hard done by Abdullah Badawi and Najib Razak’s gentleman’s agreement to transfer power in 2010. Someone who had political wind in his sails after the March election only to now see his future in doubt as UMNO gets ready to pick younger leaders in its annual congress. Someone who way back when, had the most coziest of cozy relationship with Anwar.

Yes, Anwar is targeting Muhyiddin Yassin to be the Judas. Muhyiddin is said to have lined up at least three other front benchers and a handful more from the back benches. Many of these MPs are fed up of both Abdullah and Najib, and see the grass being far greener with Anwar. Many of them were also ardent Anwaristas when the Opposition Leader was climbing up the greasy pole of UMNO politics.

These crossovers are said to be mutually beneficial in more ways than one. Anwar knows that the current composition of Pakatan MPs in Parliament is almost half Malay and half non-Malay. If he only manages to woo non-Malay BN MPs to defect, he will effectively head a non-Malay dominated government. This would be hard for the Malay-majority electorate to accept not to mention institutions like the royalty, military, armed forces and civil service. Anwar, therefore, desperately needs Malay MPs to defect from BN. In order for this to happen, he needs a Malay BN leader with enough seniority to attract others to follow suit. Hence, Muhyiddin.

But that’s not all. Anwar has already over-promised his buddies in DAP. He knows that he has to make Lim Kit Siang one of his Deputy Prime Ministers. That’s not going to sit well with Malays, whether they are UMNO, PAS or PKR supporters. Regardless of the muhibbah rhetoric coming out of Pakatan and its acceptance by the Bangsar Starbucks Melayu, the heartland and grunt Malays cannot stand Kit Siang. To them he and his party stand for everything that is anti-Malay.

That being the case, Anwar has to counter-balance Kit Siang’s appoitment as DPM with a heavyweight Malay politician as another deputy. Of course he could appoint Hadi Awang and complete the unholy trinity of Pakatan parties as PM and two DPMs, and he probably would offer Hadi the post anyway. But he knows that Hadi cannot be trusted. After all, it is Hadi and Nasharuddin Mat Isa that almost tore PAS out of Pakatan with their secret rendezvous with Abdullah. Anwar has neither forgiven nor forgotten this act of betrayal by Hadi. He also knows that during the Permatang Pauh by-election, it wasn’t Hadi that came to pinch hit for him in the last few days to turn Malay opinion around in the light of Saiful Bukhari’s religious oath that he was buggered by Anwar. Hadi came briefly, gave a 10 minute speech complaining of a cough and hot footed it out of there. Instead it was Nik Aziz Nik Mat that came to Anwar’s rescue, using his aura as a pondok alim to persuade the faithful in Permatang Pauh not to believe Saiful’s oath.

Anwar’s preferred choice as DPM from PAS is not an MP. He is the man that whispers instructions into Nik Aziz’s ear and he was the most senior PAS leader present when Anwar was declared winner after all the votes were tallied. Husam Musa cannot, for now, join a federal government because of state duties in Kelantan, but he is very much the bridge that Anwar wants to cultivate in PAS.

So with the bad blood between Anwar and Hadi, even if Anwar offers Hadi a DPM post it would be out of courtesy to keep Pakatan together. Which means he would need another senior Malay leader to be a third deputy and the de facto most senior deputy with Anwar’s full confidence and trust. He could appoint Azmin, but many would be uncomfortable with that prospect. So who better than Muhyiddin – a senior cabinet minister with experience in government. An UMNO warlord who can attract support from UMNO Malays and prevent Anwar from looking too dependent on non-Malay support. And most crucially, someone who Anwar trusts because back in the days of Anwar as DPM, when he said jump, Muhyiddin jumped.

If BN leaders are looking at East Malaysia for potential jumpers, they are looking far away from where the threat really is. Anwar has secured Muhyiddin and its merely a matter of timing. Muhyddin has to deliver Anwar a handsome number of MPs in return for being made DPM under Anwar. That, according to sources, is underway and the count is increasing by the day.

The plan is simple yet clever. Obvious yet deceptive. BN is about to lose the kingdom from right under its nose.

  35. I see this as a psychological tactics of chinese towards Malay. By calling malays racist every time they open their mouth…some malays can’t be bothered and scared to speak their mind….and calling malays racist will make some malays feel guilty and at the end submit to whatever they want…NEP abolishment (which will most benefit CHINESE and leave Malay and Indian behind), Chinese TPM and ultimately Chinese PM

So org Melayu tak reti reti ke nak bersatu…..mulakan dgn boikot semua shops owned by chinese…..if we united in doing this they will realise that Malays’ tolerance and it is Malays consumer which contributed to their wealth…jangan asyik nak mendabik dada je kojenya

  36. Dear BD,

Cannot agree more with you sir. We have to do something about it. Count me in it.

    Regards.

  37. Just read the latest on AM Ubaidah’s and Matthias Chang’s. What a great news it is. Welcome back Tun, hand in hand with Ku Li.

During this absolutely critical time, we need a powerful and credible option to confront the real problem before us…

It’s “emergency” time. Let’s not dilly dally anymore.

Let us be united again; the way we beat the Brits in 46.

    Semoga Berjaya InshaAllah.

  38. For more Malay or Islam bashing, do visit the Malaysian Bar Council Website http://www.malaysianbar.org.my/.

The Webmaster painstakingly takes excerpts of articles or reports in the mainstream media and posts it on the Bar Council’s website everyday.

Go through the website for one week and read the articles posted there everyday and you’ll know what I mean.

  39. Dear Malaysian,

Why do we look at the issue as bashing a certain race? After reading blog after blog after blog….even though people proclaim that they are malaysians….when it comes to someone uttering a sensitive sentence…we try to relate it to a certain race..religion and so forth…..as a malaysian i am utterly disapPointed that in thiS era we are still talking about being a chinese…indian or malay for that fact of matter..whatever happen to “I am Malaysian”? You can’t blame an entire race for the ignorance of a few shallow minded people….

I love my country…i love the people in it…irregardless of the race…religion….

STOP THE RACE BASHING…..ITS THE INDIVIDUAL THAT MADE THE MISTAKE….IT JUST SHOW WHAT TYPE OF CHARACTER OUR LEADERS TODAY ARE MADE OF…..

  40. RE: Hindraf leaders

In case you may NOT have noticed, quite a few of them are being detained at Hotel Kamunting under the ISA.

    Talk about selective reporting . . . please la . . .

Right. They ought to be there, perhaps for a long time.

Why? They are extremists! They threatened national security, with demands to start LTTE like terrorism here.

There is no place for treacherous people like that.

  41. when I studied in the US, I never knew there was another Malaysian besides me in the class. Right after the first mid-term and some rumour spread that I did extremly well (I scored 95%, the next best was 65%) a guy then started talking to me in BM … that guy was a chinese … what does that mean????

  42. dear ayor
    1. you are handsome and a chinese like you?
    2. that you are good in your studies and the chinese is not good and want to take an advantage towards you?
    3. That you start talking to this chinese guy and pour your heart out and tell him the secret of your success and if another malay guy came you would shove them away?
    ha ha ha.

  43. lol, you locked up the Hindraf leaders, only to lose the election. Malays want to hold on to their special rights but only know how to self pwn. Nothing is more dangerous than stupidity of UMNO dickheads who only know how to wayang keris and ask pple to balik cina? They don’t read news. They don’t know how China can nuke Taiwan anytime they want, and maybe Malaysia along with it? Talking big is surely a sign of backward-ness!

  44. When is it good to be a Malay in Malaysia? Semua buat salah, nothing the Malay do is right…

When others hold forums that touches the sensitivities of Malays, it is all about equality…. When Malays point out the obvious, it is called racism…

But who is really the racist here? Wong Chun Wai? Anwar Ibrahim? Umno? MCA? DAP? Like it or not, we are all racist at heart, often given preferential treatment over our own kind.

Now, the issue is going to get out of hand… Perhaps all these liberals wants some form of intervention, perhaps from superpowers that promotes democracy and liberalism and there is no prize for guessing which country this is…

In the end, it is up to us how the tolerance game is played. If somebody say Anwar is the only guy who can bring about unity amongst the races in this country, think again. He is playing to the gallery and at the same time employing divisive tactics.

Malaysia is, in reality the original Tanah Melayu. It is documented in history and nothing can change that. The Malays have always been accommodating but now it appears this graciousness is being taken advantage of. Be wary of where we tread. We do not need another racial incidents and it is high time mainstream media and bloggers start facing the realities of life… You want a peaceful country, learn to be accommodating.

  45. Tun Mahathir is a great man and thousand Chun Wai would not be able to degrade him. Shame on him.

  46. The major dailies are now so fond of the word ‘racist’. We all know better about that but such move is, I think, give very significant impact to the young and very young generation who does not know or understand the history of this country.

Notice that no leaders of Pakatan Rakyat spoke against Hindraf’s claims of the so-called mini-genocide that purportedly done or condone by the government?

Hindraf leaders should be charged in court for sedition, libel and slander and treason! Let them defend themselves with all the lawyers they need. Let the Editors like Wong support the so-called genocide act. He can also publish all the photos of mass graves or skinny people striped to their bones or pictures of refugee camps as proof of ethnic cleansing by the government.

  47. Tun..just like any true melayu was just telling the truth and of course the racist chauvinist pig hate to be told face down like that.Good job Tun…nak harap dollah..lembekkk

This story is not official yet. Wait for the official statement.

  51. Make Dunno Only. Don’t Become a Racist or Satan.
    ————————————————

If you have read Anwarwood Productions latest script, you would have understood what is happening in Penang and all the news as reported in MSN, Malaysiakini, Malaysia Today and other blogger’s websites. Some may have high blood pressure, a stroke or even a heart attack by now.

However, my advice to all Malaysians is , “Make Dunno Only!”. Continue with your Fast, make preparations for Hari Raya and Mooncake festivals or whatever festivals coming your way.

For those who don’t have any upcoming festivals to celebrate, then, may I suggest, we make preparations to celebrate Malaysia Day on 16 September which is the day Malaysia was born, 45 years ago, together with our fellow brothers and sisters from East Malaysia.

If you want to continue getting excited with the news and stories coming out from Penang, then may I suggest the following for you to ponder.

    1. Ahmad says Chinese are immigrants or squatters. – Tell me who isn’t an immigrant or a squatter in this world?

    2. If you are sensitive to the words immigrants or squatters. – I have heard much worst than that over the past 51 years. I am already desensitised.

    3. Ahmad tore Tsu Khoon pictures. – No big deal. It would be better if Ahmad had called him, Ka Ting, Sammy Veloo and all those other representatives of BN parties and slap them all instead for not conforming to the spirit of the Malaysian Constitution and doing trade bartering of rights of human beings for their own party interests.

    4. Ahmad talking for all Malaysians Malays? – What about DSAI? Maybe Ahmad only represent the 50 or so followers he has. Maybe he can try buying more followers.

    5. Ahmad talking for all Moslems? – What about Tok Guru? Is Ahmad an ulama?

    6. Reporters get threaten and so forth. – Why are the MSN reporters there in the first place? Why after interviewing Ahmad, then run to interview other BN leaders? Is the news so important that it is worth reporting? Why don’t interview Malaysians on the street and ask them what they think of Ahmad and other BN leaders.

    7. Use ISA, Sedition Act and so forth. – For once, I totally agree, but it is only to be used only on BN politicians. After everyone is locked up, then abolish it.

Buat Dunno Sahaja. Jangan Jadi seorang Rasis atau Setan.
    ————————————————–

  52. Still don’t get it rite . . .? Selective reporting? Casual with the facts? Lacking perspective?

You are just as guilty of it as The Star reporter.

ps: Me comment had nothing to do with whether you think Hindraf leaders deserve it or not. Boy, you’re just as dumb as that Badahwi fella la . . .

  53. Hoppoe Z – I disagree with you to say that this Ahmad Ismail racial issue is a Barisan promo. Why would BN want to provoke the Chinese, Gerakan and MCA, at a time when their plate is already full with problems.

To all please refer to Pilihanraya Kini blog titled – “Rupanya Datuk Ahmad ‘trojan horse’ Anwar untuk melumpuhkan BN”. It seems the act by Ahmad is to help Anuar accomplish his mission to get all the BN component parties to cross over.

  54. It’s silly to compare Wee Meng Chee and Hindraf to Ahmad Ismail. Wee acts on his own, and Hindraf is a non-government organization. What should MCA and MIC apologize on their behalf, since these 2 have no relations whatsoever with them?

Ahmad Ismail, on the other hand, is a head of division of UMNO Bukit Bendera, the main party of the present government. Plus, no one insists the Malays to apologize to the non-Malays. They insist Ahmad apologizes for his offensive remark.

It was never a race issue to begin with, but a personal one. The people have issue with Ahmad Ismail the individual, not UMNO the party. But Dr M insists on seeing it as a racial issue.

  55. Interesting post.
