TBH RCI: Malays 1, DAP 0

Selangor DAP Exco Ean Yong denied that his political aide Teoh Beng Hock committed suicideto save his Boss and the Chinese Chauvinist party. This denial was brought up in the Royal Commission of Inquiry for the sudden death of Teoh Beng Hock on 16 July 2009, to the notion put forth by counsel appearing for MACC Dato’ Seri Shafee Abdullah.

Yesterday, the RCI heard that Teoh would have been a suspect if there were to be any hanky-panky in the practices of corruption.

Teoh would have been ‘suspect’

KUALA LUMPUR: If there was foul play in the awarding of contracts for projects in the Seri Kembangan constituency, the late Teoh Beng Hock would have been a suspect, the inquiry into his death heard.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) senior officer Ahmad Shafik Abdul Rahman said Seri Kembangan assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah, who was the poli-tical aide’s boss, and businessman Lee Wye Wing, would have also been suspects if cheating was involved.

“There were sufficient points leading to the Selangor state government being cheated by non-bumiputras that used bumiputra companies to get contracts,” he told the commission of inquiry into Teoh’s death here yesterday.

“The non-bumiputra companies were aware that government projects can only be handled by bumiputra companies.

“However, they used the licences of the bumiputra companies to get projects from the government.

“Therefore, the government has been cheated by these non-bumiputra companies,” said Ahmad Shafik, who took over from then investigating officer Mohd Anuar Ismail in the alleged misappropriation of state funds in 2009.

Teoh, who was Ean Yong’s political secretary, was found dead at the fifth floor of the Plaza Masalam building in Shah Alam on July 16, 2009.

He was at the Selangor MACC office on the 14th floor a day earlier for questioning over the alleged illegal disbursement of state funds by Ean Yong.

Ahmad Shafik, to a question by MACC counsel Datuk Seri Muham-mad Shafee Abdullah, said the bumiputra companies which were granted the contracts denied executing the projects and programmes (under the contract).

“They admitted that they gave their licences to Lee, on the condition that they get five to 10% (of the contracted sum), depending on the size of the project,” said Ahmad Shafik, adding that Lee had requested for the setting up of four bumiputra companies.

Ahmad Shafik also testified that he could not match the receipts Lee had given him with the total cost of RM200,000 of the more than 80 programmes that were carried out.

Questioned by Bar Council lawyer S. Sivaneindiren, Ahmad Shafik said the Selangor government circular on the awarding of contracts did not specify that the contractors must be bumiputra companies.

Replying to conducting officer Awang Armadajaya Awang Mahmud, Ahmad Shafik said there were no elements of cheating if he bases the situation on the state government circular.

Salesman Mohd Harun Abdullah told the inquiry that Lee controlled the accounts of three companies started by his (Mohd Harun’s) wife, sister-in-law and brother-in-law.

Kajang municipal councillor Lee Kee Hiong testified that Teoh was the “best political secretary” she had ever met as he would solve problems in a calm manner.

Obviously, Chinese Chauvinist DAP leaders in Selangor are now on the defensive mode eversince the Royal Commission of Inquiry started to convene. More and more things uncovered to a point that the RCI was extended from its original planned term of reference.

This is far different from the few days preceding the discovery of Teoh’s lifeless body at the bottom on the side of Plaza Massalam almost two years ago. DAP Leaders were very quick to blame MACC for Teoh’s demise, in fact just within hours.

They even attempted to organise a rally. However, it wasn’t recevied that well.

Chinese Chauvinists in DAP obviously needed a cover up for the corrupt practices after they started to have executive power in the Selangor State Government. Top of the suspects were Exco Ronnie Liu and Hian Wah. That is why Liu was frantically very dramatic in the phase of deep in the middle of initial investigations. It is a matter of his own survival for the initial investigations be interrupted, so that later doubts could be casted when the materials adduced as evidence.

Assigning the blame to MACC serves as a two pronged objective:

1. Get the attention towards the accuser, who is now the villain and the witness if not a suspect on his own right, is a victim

2. The on-going strategy of demonising any law enforcement agencies (which is Malay led and controlled) like MACC, Police, Attorney General’s Chambers, Judiciary etc, as part of the Chinese Chauvinists agenda as a minority to play the majority’s role

As we here in BigDogDotCom said earlier here in this blog, DAP Leaders would be eventually be nailed when the RCI they very insistent to ask for come into force. It is clearly unfolding now.

Now, it seems the Malays 1, the Chinese Chauvinist DAP 0. The plot thickens.
