Wan Azizah quits, Anwar to contest (Update 3)

PETALING JAYA: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has resigned as Permatang Pauh Member of Parliament to make way for her husband Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to contest in a by-election.
At a packed press conference at the party headquarters on Thursday, Dr Wan Azizah said the decision was made after deliberations with her family, the PKR leadership and its partners in the Pakatan Rakyat loose coalition of Opposition parties.
“I have officially submitted my resignation as MP to the Parliament Speaker, Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia, to make way for my husband, Anwar Ibrahim, to contest as a candidate for Pakatan Rakyat in a by-election as soon as possible,” she said.
Dr Wan Azizah, who showed no emotion during the press conference, said it was the right decision for Malaysia and that she would continue serving as PKR president and chairman of the Peace Foundation.
Together with her were PKR vice-presidents Azmin Ali and R. Sivarasa, her daughter and Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar, and Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai.
Dr Wan Azizah also thanked her supporters in Permatang Pauh who had stood by her in the most difficult of times.
“Anwar Ibrahim has the experience and intelligence to reinvigorate our economy, and the charisma and integrity to unite Malaysians.
“And I’m not saying this just because he is my husband,” she added.
As to who would be taking over as the Opposition leader in Parliament, Dr Wan Azizah said that would be discussed with other Pakatan Rakyat leaders.
Anwar, under a police investigation for allegedly sodomising a former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, 23, had previously said he would contest in the Kulim-Bandar Baharu parliamentary constituency, where an election petition is pending.
The case is scheduled for hearing on Aug 19.
On Thursday, Anwar said he had decided to contest in Pematang Pauh instead because the Kulim petition might take too long to settle.
He had previously said that he would have the numbers to form the government by Sept 16, and said the sodomy allegation was a part of a conspiracy to stop him from doing so.
He has denied the sodomy allegations and has filed a defamation suit against Mohd Saiful.
The Election Commission is required under the law to call for a by-election within 60 days.
Its chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman said the Commission would start preparing for the by-election upon receiving notice from the Speaker.
Also on Thursday, Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar announced that the police had wrapped up their investigations into the sodomy case, and have sent their report to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action.

Is this another precursor for another sordid drama in the making?
The timing of this is highly questionable. Anwar was unable to contest in the 8 March XIIth General Elections because the interregnum period stated by law for after serving the sentence for the conviction of abuse of power had not matured. Then came 14 April 2008, he was a ‘free’ man.
So why now and not then?
He was alleged to have sodomised Saiful Bukhary in a Police report made on July which stunned the nation again, almost ten years to be exact. Then came the drama of so-called being life threatening (which he illustrated to be false as her appeared before a mob-like crowd of 10,000 people days later), invited for asylum at the Turkish Embassy and later, refusing to do the muhaballah but instead demanded qazaf ruling from the Syariah Court.
And all the dramas in between, which include a ‘conspiracy theory’ involving the IGP Tan Sri Musa Hassan and AG Tan Sri Gani Patail to “fabricate evidence”.
After the refusal of co-operation with the Police, to obtain his DNA sample, Anwar knew his days are numbered. So, by actively going through the electoral process to become an MP, he will use the excuse of “politically motivated” when the Police arrest him soon, when most probably more damning evidence and conclusion is formed in the sodomy case.
Again, Anwar will cry foul again. And the international community will come hard against PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Dato’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s administration for “trying to incarcerate a potential Malaysian leader as his popularity has risen”. The last time we were put to this test, we had a really strong leader.
What else is new with the Drama King?

Agreed, this is all part of DSAI’s devious schemes, nothing unexpected in preparation of his timely arrest; he knows for a fact that the police have a solid case against him. With his supporters including his political associates all aroused, he has built a defensive ring to deter his arrest. He invites blood in his hands and he doesn’t give a damn.
The 1st issue on hand is the manner the Police will proceed with to arrest DSAI if the AG’s office proceeds with a charge? He will have a mob surrounding to protect him, the foreign media watching and a lame PM with his most stupid defacto law Minister at his side. Rumours too have it that DSAI has 8 bomohs of various ethic backgrounds protecting him 24 hours and his home guarded by silat exponents. Wherever DSAI moves, he has an entourage of 8 SUV of supporters/ body guards.
Without PM, UMNO should be able to take down DSAI at the by election most easily; DSAI’s weakness is devious character; a sodomite and very traitorous and play on the story of Nabi Lot as well as his failures and corruption when he was DPM. Ezam should not be the candidate to challenge DSAI. PM is a big, big liability but winning the by election is not impossible given the correct strategy, maybe a local and religiously clean candidate could be an asset – focus on DSAI proven weaknesses and deceits. Do not use the traditional methods to lure the voters; UMNO’s failures in Kelantan should give a good example to reflect. It would be unfortunate and disastrous to UMNO if PM capitalises on any winnings. This is my preliminary thoughts.

And one wonders why the Sultanate of Malacca crumbled, blaming it on foreign forces, when more likely it was petty infighting and not being able to get a good thing going. Weak leaders will continue to let others dominate them. We need strong ones, fighting for the number one position, not those waiting in line for hand me downs. 1. Parlimen dihina dan rakyat diperkotak-katikkan
Wan Azizah dan Anuar Ibrahim menganggap jawatan wakil rakyat yang dipegang seolah-olah macam Taukeh Kedai Kopi, yang boleh dkosongkan bila-bila masa. Mandat yang diberikan rakyat dipermainkan. Pilihanraya bukanlah medan untuk seseorang mengumpul kekayaan, mendapat kekayaan berjuta atau menguji populariti dan juga bukan juga untuk mengejar cita-cita peribadi. Wan Azizah dan Anwar Ibrahim telah membuktikan konsep politik kekeluargaan yang diamalkan oleh kaum-kaum terdahulu seperti Bani Umaiyyah, Bani Abassiah dan juga golongan di raja Firaun. Inikah yang dikatakan pejuang rakyat?
2. Berjuta wang rakyat bakal dihabiskan
Belumpun memegang jawatan dan kuasa, wang rakyat sudah hendak dibelanjakan. Berapa banyakkah wang rakyat yang bakal dihabiskan. Berjuta!! Pembaziran mengadakan pilihanraya kecil kerana hendak memuaskan hati seorang pemimpin yang gelojoh dan gopoh bernama Anwar Ibrahim patut dielakkan. Bukankah lebih baik wang berkenaan digunakan untuk perbelanjaan rakyat marhaen??
3. Sikap pengecut yang ditunjukkan oleh “US Stooge”
“Saya bersedia bertanding di mana sahaja.” Cakap kosong orang politik yang tidak mempunyai maruah. Janji tinggal janji. Balik-balik kampung sendiri yang dicari. Kalau betul anak jantan dan hendak menguji populariti kenapa tidak berani bertanding di Johor, misalnya? Si pengecut inikah yang hendak dijadikan Perdana Menteri? Bodohnya rakyat Malaysia!
4. Perjuangan “US Stooge” = “Flip Flop PM”
Persamaan di antara kedua-duanya:
* Kedua-duanya “flip flop”, suka berbohong dan memutar belitkan kenyataan.
* Perjuangan keluarga dan anak beranak melebihi perjuangan rakyat.
* Kedua-duanya boneka. Satu boneka Singapura dan satu lagi boneka US.
* Kedua-dua berlagak alim, tapi perangai ….
* Kedua-dua berasal dari Pulau Pinang. Hanya berani masuk gelanggang dekat kampung sendiri sahaja.
* Kedua-duanya masih merasakan mendapat sokongan rakyat, tanpa menyedari ramai yang telah muak.
Akhir kalam, Ya Allah selamatkan Malaysia dan rakyatnya daripada pemimpin-pemimpin yang tamak dan gelojoh serta rakus mengejar kekayaan dan kemasyuran di bumimu yang sementara ini. Amin.

31-07-2008: Maybank may lose RM480m

KUALA LUMPUR: Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) may lose its RM480 million deposit if its proposed acquisition of PT Bank Internasional Indonesia (BII) falls through, the bank’s management told analysts in a conference here yesterday.
It is learnt that the management had said that while there is a possibility of having to forgo the deposit, the bank is taking measures to ensure the money is returned. The bank wants to exhaust all avenues in the search for an amicable solution.
“The bank is looking at all avenues of engagement and could lose its deposit only if no amicable solution is found by end-September, which is the long-stop date for the proposed acquisition,” the management was quoted as telling the analysts.
However, analysts said that even if Maybank has to forfeit the deposit, it would only shave off about 10 sen from its earnings per share for the financial year ending June 30, 2009…
