Can we accept Riong Kali’s word this time?

Riong Kali 'Happy Hours': "Bottoms up!"

Since the story about Kalimullah “Riong Kali” Hassan is the culprit who is sponsoring fugitive-blogger Raja “Compulsive Liar” Petra’s stay in London, the mainstream media have been harping on the issue continuously. Yesterday, Riong Kali denied the story in an exclusive statement meant for the Utusan Malaysia Chief Editor.

NST has the story:

Kalimullah denies links to Raja Petra, Anwar

2010/01/15

KUALA LUMPUR: Former New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd deputy chairman Datuk Seri Kalimullah Hassan has strongly denied allegations connecting him to fugitive blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin. He also denied meeting opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in London on Nov 7 last year.

In a faxed statement to Utusan Malaysia on Wednesday, Kalimullah said he did not have any relationship with Raja Petra and had not funded or allowed the latter to stay in his apartment in London.

“As it is generally known, Raja Petra had hurled baseless allegations against me, my family and friends such as former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

“It is true that I have an apartment in London but Raja Petra has never stayed there and I know nothing of his whereabouts.”

He added that he was in Malaysia on Nov 7 and had not met Anwar in London, as alleged. He also dismissed claims on blogs linking him to online news portals, Malaysiakini and The Malaysian Insider.

He was responding to reports in the Malay daily quoting Anwar’s former political aide, Anuar Shaari, who questioned whether Anwar had met Kalimullah in London.

Anuar had also said that Raja Petra was being funded by Anwar’s crony in Britain.

Following that, Umno supreme council member Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi had called on Anwar to explain the purported meeting between him and Kalimullah.

Puad yesterday said Kali- mullah could say whatever he wanted or deny but Anwar should be the one to come forward to explain.

“People are convinced that the meeting took place because the allegation was made by Anwar’s former aide. So why has Anwar not come out to clear the air?

Puad also said although Kalimullah had denied his involvement in the news portals, the public knew he was behind Malaysian Insider.

“Of course, he denied it, especially after (Prime Minister) Datuk Seri Najib Razak warned the portal not to make false accusations against Umno.

“Maybe he (Kalimullah) is trying to deny his link to the portal because of this.”

Last week, Najib took the portal’s reporter to task for saying Umno was responsible for inflaming negative sentiments on the ‘Allah’ issue, which has since resulted in several churches being attacked by arsonists.

Puad said the police must thoroughly investigate the agenda behind the alleged meeting.

Yesterday, a local English daily quoted Puad as saying that Anwar must issue a denial if the meeting did not take place as the issue has become a public concern.

************

The fact still remains, Riong Kali has been caught lying, twice. In the height of strong public opposition against the Leadership, he lied about Fourth Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad wanting to meet PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Dato’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, whilst in Tokyo.

Then, he lied about how Khairy Jamaluddin afford to subscribe the shares allocated to him in ECM Libra which was elevated from a stock broking firm into a full fledge investment bank, considering that the 28 year old son of a former Malaysian Ambassador to Japan previously only served as Deputy Chief of Staff in the PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Dato’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi Prime Minister’s Office and never worked elsewhere before. Of course, he lied about his return back into ECM Libra too.

Of course, Riong Kali created history as the NST Supremo, when he in personal capacity and mobilising NTSP to sue blogger Ahirudin “Rocky’s Bru” Attan and Jeff “Screenshots” Ooi in January 2007. That act actually rallied all bloggers together, which later evolved to the formation of National Alliance of Bloggers (All Blogs).

Should we accept the words of a  liar this time?

*Updated 200pm Saturday 16 January 2010

Apparently, the rumour about Riong Kali is working together with former-abuse-of-power-convict Anwar “Mat King Leather” Ibrahim is true. They met in London recently and former PKR leader and Anwar’s aide Anuar Shaari confirmed this.

NST again has the story:

‘Coy’ leader revealed Anwar, Kalimullah meeting

2010/01/15

KUALA LUMPUR: The purported meeting between Parti Keadilan Rakyat de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and businessman Datuk Seri Kalimullah Hassan in London was revealed by a prominent leader in the party, said Anuar Shaari. The former political aide to Anwar said the leader, one of the pioneer members in PKR, told him about the alleged meeting as he was disappointed with Anwar’s way of leading the party.

“He (the leader) is still with PKR because he believes the party can fight for justice in the country,” said Anuar yesterday.

When pressed for details of the leader, Anuar refused to answer as he “respected the leader’s plea to remain anonymous”.

He also denied that the purported meeting was hearsay.

“It (the meeting) did happen. We just do not know what they had discussed.”

The purported meeting had been a hot topic in the blogo-sphere for the past few weeks and was picked up by the mainstream media when Umno supreme council member Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi called on Anwar to explain.

Anwar and Kalimullah were alleged to have funded fugitive blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin, who is now believed to be residing in Kalimullah’s apartment in London.

However, Kalimullah had on Thursday issued a statement, strongly denying all allegations against him in the blogs and the newspapers.

Kalimullah said he was in Malaysia on Nov 7 last year and had neither met Anwar nor had any relationship with Raja Petra.

Anuar said it was not surprising if the opposition leader was funding Raja Petra in Britain as they were close friends in Malay College Kuala Kangsar.

“In fact, Raja Petra was the one who initiated the “Free Anwar Campaign” on the Internet when Anwar was detained in 1998.”

Anuar said many PKR members did not know about the relationship between Anwar and Raja Petra or the purported meeting, until the issue came out in the media.

On Thursday, Puad called for a police investigation into the alleged meeting and urged Anwar to come clean.

************

Its so clear that the trio are liars.

It is also unfortunate that even at this point, Riong Kali is still latching on PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Abdullah’s name and the latter’s untimely retirement from Premiership is attributed to the former’s doings.

  1. Many thinks it is highly unlikely for Kali to form a union with RPK,they have crossed swords before .But stranger things have happened in the past and it is only natural for Kali to deny any link with RPK for now.But common goals and mutual needs can easily override past blemishes for two strange bedfellows to sleep together.Sorry Kali – You can fool some peoples some times, many times even but not this time.

    • Bigdog,

My gosh, your comments are filled with accusations of lies, lies, lies…..

Did it ever occur to you that people might think the same about you?

  2. I don’t like the man.

In his zealousness to protect and promote the image of the flip-flopping, sleepy-on-the-job, auto-piloting, heavy-reliance-on-the “Fourth Floor boys” Prime minister, he allowed mostly the news and opinions that are favourable to the old man and blocked the dissenting ones, including those of Tun Dr Mahathir, in the New Straits Times over which he had control.

In fact he was the cause of TDM starting to blog, and with that, blogging became an important force in shaping public opinion in the country. Though I don’t own a blog, I think bloggers can quite rightly claim to have played a significant role in the downfall of the sleepy old man. In that regard, this Kali-whatever-his-name-is can also claim a little part in that downfall.

He still uses words like “friends such as former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi”. See the arrogance? Hardly any has-been would refer to TDM as a “friend”. That alone shows the respect and reverence people have for TDM. This fellow doesn’t show that respect for the flip-flopping old man. Maybe they deserve each other.

To me, he has lost credibility. Like Anwar Mat King Leather, his may be just in the nuisance value.

  3. REMINDER: Now you know why KJ men in NSTP not helping Najib!

Khairy: Umno straying from middle ground

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 16 — Umno no longer commands the middle ground and if it continues on this trajectory, the party’s fortunes can no longer be certain, Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said.

Reflecting on the party’s role in the raging ‘Allah’ controversy, he said the party is on a road that is taking it away from being a party for all.

“Nobody wants to be a loser, but we’re definitely not straddling the middle ground any more. It might become what PAS used to be — a party that appeals to just a certain base. It’s scary,” he told The Straits Times in an interview.

  4. Dream on about finding rpk as this bloke is as bright as they come.

  5. Kalau Najib di zaman Paklah boleh terima pakai Kali, kenapa kali ini tidak. Elok teruskan suapaya negara lebih cepat….

  6. “He also dismissed claims on blogs linking him to online news portals, Malaysiakini and The Malaysian Insider.”

Funnylah to lie like this. sure, people know he doesn’t have anything to do with Malaysiakini.
But we all know he is behind Insider together with Brendan Pereira the Fox.
i know both their writings and both have written without using their names (those editorials without bylines) many times in Insider, esp on issues that attacked the government.
or else who could’ve financed Insider? until now, its financers have never been revealed.
even people working there say: you can ask anything about Insider, but not who is behind us (it’s a newsroom or a spy agency that have to keep big secrets like this?).
we all could reasonably guess who financed Malaysiakini in the early days, who are financing Malaysian Mirror and Nut Graph, but no one knows the big uncle/s behind Insider.
Png or Sreedhar? (see About Us in its homepage) they’re just the upfronters who did throw in some early money.
Insider’s monthly running costs is easily rm80,000 a month, if u include everyone’s salaries and claims, and office rent and equipment. there is no profit yet because the main advertisers on the Insider pages are kali’s businesses like Bangsar Seafood.
go and find out lah, doggie.

    • Support the proposal. Nice if can find out, BD. Why not exhaust your links and resources, expose them.

They have been so daring as to “twist” DS Hishamuddin’s words on the so-called permission to demo at Kg Bahru mosque the previous Friday and their reporter blatantly trying to accuse UMNO being responsible for the restlessness resulting from the recent court decision on the use of the word Allah. Trying that on no less than PM Najib himself at one question-and-answer session.

      • Hi,

Lie, Lie, Lie….. Twist, Twist, Twist Tu Saja Kerja Kamu semua….

Pegi masjid bertahlil kan lagi baik…

  7. […] Recently, blogger Apanama scooped on the deal involving the system belonging to Inland Revenue Board. Riong Kali’s hand in this made the exercise an attempt to ‘sell of information on Malaysians to parties abroad’. He was also implicated of harbouring fugitive techno-cyber-anarchist Raja Petra “Compulsive Liar” Kamaruddin in London, of which the former categorically denied. […]
