The premise of anarchy politics

Malaysia, being a multi etnic and faith has a very unique socio-political history. In all the variables and obstacles, Malaysians lived peacefully and managed to develop the country in what it is, with a lot of transformation and success stories stripes earned on the shoulders and ribbons pinned on the chest. Malaysians relatively are proud of the achievement.

The nation was formed based on the premise of understanding, tolerance, give-and-take, win-win, wit and rationalisation, consultation and most of all, respect. The Leaders led by UMNO Preisdent Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra, managed to work together, earned the rakyats’ mandate and Rulers trust to convice the colonial masters t0 agree with the process of Merdeka and the all the premise that bound this nation and all the components in the form of Federal Constitution, which was based on the ‘social contract’ agreed and achieved.

Strangely, for some skewed and wicked reasons, there are consistent and structutred efforts to rock the boat and all these stability and consistencies that out forefathers did so much to foster and achieve, despite Malayans (then Malaysians) had to weather the threat of communist barbarism in the process of earning Kemerdekaan and a good 22 years of post Merdeka (when the resources should be channeled for nation building instead fighting insurgency).  First it was the anti Malay/Chinese Chauvinists sentiments which almost turned this nation topsy-turvy and  destroyed what Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra worked so hard to achieve. When that was managed to resolved with the briliant stroke of getting all ethnic groups and political parties to consult and work togerther (with the exception of Chinese Chauvinists DAP!), New Economic Policy (NEP) to socially transform and reduce desparity as a tool of nation building was agreed and born in 1971, Rukunegara to bind the allegience as a nation was installed and eventually the world’s most succesful multi ethnic coalition political party Barisan Nasional was formed in 1973.

Let us briefly recap on attempt to darken Malaysian politics and throw everything that had been achieved in a counter productivity node, especially the last decade.

This anti authority (Police, enforcement agencies  and courts) sentiments were a consistent theme and game brought forth by people like DAP for the last two decades. However, it did not catch on across the board in Malaysians’ hearts and imaginations, at least not till a little over a decade ago. Suddenly, Malaysia almost saw a process if not a  ‘revolution’!

The date was 2 September 1998. Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was sacked by then Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad from the Cabinet. A day later, UMNO Supreme Council met and decided to expel Anwar as a member. Anwar immediately captured the imaginations and sympathy of Malaysians that he was ‘victimised’, the draconian government of Dr. Mahathir was machiavellian to ‘conspire and destroy him’, launched the ‘Reformasi’ movement, to instigate the fury of the common rakyat against the Leadership. Massive mobsteet anarchy politics was born.

The dismay and fury of Malaysian emotions were played and trumped out. The nation was almost destroyed with the birth of the ‘Reformasi’, when all the resources and imaginations of the nation should have been channeled and deployed to weather the post 1997-98 Asian Financial Crisis went to anarchy mobstreet politics, never before seen by Malaysians. Nevermind that as the Finance Minister Anwar almost destroyed the economy when he bought into the IMF prescription of increasing interest rates and reducing NPL period which saw so many corporations and borrowers almost went bankrupt, despite that as an over zealous Finance Minister, he actually was a factor of the intense ‘bubbling of the economy’ due to his own policy of excessive and blatant capital and debt financing, IPOs and his hand in the practice of ‘cronyism’.

Names like Assistant Bank Negara Governor Abdul Murad, Dato’ Ishak Ismail, Dato’ Kamaruddin Jaafar, Nazri Abdullah, Dato’ Khalid Ahmad, Abdul Rahim Ghouse, Dato’ Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Dato’ S. Nalla Karupan, Azmin Ali and Ezam Md. Noor intantly comes to mind when one talks about Anwar’s cronyism. As they say, the “proof is in the pudding”. The Free Anwar Campaign was sponsored from abroad by funds kept outside Malaysia for a good 5-6 years. So was Keadilan and later PKN and eventually PKR. In the 1999 November General Elections, Keadilan Shah Alam candidate Ezam Md. Noor used very colourful posters and banners, more than the BN Candidate, who eventually became a Cabinet Minister.

For all intent and purpose, the ‘anarchy behaviour and revolution’ Anwar “Drama King” Ibrahim started was utterly based on the premise that he is ‘innocent’. Many adamantly believed that Anwar ‘Mat King Leather” Ibrahim  did not sodomise Azizan Abu Bakar, Sukma Saasmitamadja, Meor Abdul Razak, Hairany and other men. Malaysians could not accept that Anwar was charge for sodomy and also abused his power to cover up for this despicable act. The premise of the ‘fury and anger’ of rakyat is that, Anwar is INNOCENT!

It was proven otherwise. Anwar was found guilty of sodomy and as the Deputy Prime Minister abused his power to cover up for despicable act. His effort to exhonorate from the abuse of power conviction was exhaustive. However, technically the Federal Court was in favour for the doubt on the reporting of the sodomy but not the act of Anwar did sodomise his wife’s driver Azizan Abu Bakar.

Malaysians should pause and recollect. After ten years, another complain was lodged against Anwar for the despicable act of sodomy. This time, there was no Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir to throw all the Govermment machinery in ‘framing and trumping up the sodomy charge’. And yet, the same drama preceded; “My life is in danger” , “its a conspiracy of the highest order”. The same delay drama in the process to find the truth via the justice system is in play. The victim was very adamant of being victimized that he even swore in the name of Allah s.w.t. holding up the holy book Al Quran infront of an imam in a mosque. On the other hand, Anwar refused to clear his name using the same method but instead went on the ‘Rakyat is the nation’s judge’ and contested in Permatang Pauh by-election last August.

In the midst of all that, Anwar launched the ‘Ketuanan Rakyat’ in the hope of capturing the imaginations and the hopes many Non Malays and the educated, professional and urbanite Malays who felt that the ‘NEP was failure and benefitted so few instead the majority’. The fact is that Pakatan Rakyat did not manage to translate even the slightest bit of Anwar’s ‘Ketuanan Rakyat’ for the betterment and benefit of the majority, if not all Malaysians. On the other hand, what Pakatan Rakyat Leaders did was to abuse their positions and ‘plunder’ the state. So far Pakatan Rakyat installed state governments have failed across the board and did nothing but play politics.

Nevermind Anwar is an incurrable hypocrite. Nevermind that once Anwar claimed he was systematically poisoned by arsenic whilst in prison. Nevermind Anwar was a convicted criminal. Nevermind Anwar is a close associate of the Neo Con Jews. Nevermind Anwar’s development is even captured closely by the Israelis. Nevermind Anwar is a CIA covert operator. Nevermind Anwar tried to bring back the ‘Butcher of Malaya’. Nevermind Anwar was the mastermind of the attempt to insitgate the rakyat to revolt against HRH Paduka Seri Sultan Perak. Nevermind that Anwar’s personal lawyer friend Zainur Zakaria calls him a ‘Traitor’ and partner-in-crime Nallakarupan’s confession. 

Nevermind the fact that in 1974 as a firebrand student leader Anwar instigated IPTA students for the so-called ‘death due to starvation’ in Baling (which no one was able to prove!), spend two years in ISA for it but when he was given power as Minister of Youth, Culture and Sports, Agriculture, Education, Finance and Deputy Prime Minister, he did nothing for the people of Baling nor anything to alleviate the socio-economic people of interior Kedah.

Take all these theatrics away. Focus on the facts at hand. Do away with all of the emotions and sentiments that Anwar managed to ride, trumped up and spun. A thoroughly  ‘innocent’ man would not go through all these theatrics, in tandem as what William Shakespeare once said “The bigger the lie is, the more people would believe in it”. Take the ‘innocence’ away. All what the nation had to weather, that almost destroyed the entire social fabric of trust, co-operation, tolerance and respect which our forefathers painfully built and put in place was based on the premise that Anwar is ‘innocent and systematically victimised’.

Was it worth it, to destroy everything what this nation stood for and worked so well for a good fifty years of nation building, progress and growth, harmony and stability, achievements, glory and pride and unity and unified Malaysian for the ‘innocence’ of Anwar? In the first place, why would so many wanted to destroy all that, for someone like Anwar?
